Very, very cool. I love how you're thinking on your feet... the stain color changes... no worries... change the gameplan... green highlights!
Genius.

You're full of talent, anyone who can sway with the challenges that the tiki throws at them can do just about anything with the log.
Just watch your back in the dark... he looks hungry... feed him well before he goes to his new home... then let the new owner deal with him! :tiki:

Again, top-notch work!

Interesting that you carve from one end to another & then cut the rest off.

Love the nostrils!!

Smokin'!

Aloha friends,

I´m fine! The last night was silent and no strange things happened.
Thank Tiki!

AlohaStation, surf-n-turf, benella, Benzart, McTiki, GMAN, Lake Surfer and Tamapoutini,
thank you very much for these nice words on my work.

I´m glad that you guys enjoy my the finish of the Tiki
From time to time I was very doubtful with the coloring.
First I wanted to introduce some red parts into the highlights,
but that looked like an haunted house figure with blood.
So I decided to use the brow color to stay in the same spectrum.
I had chromatics lessons in my study, but not especially for wood and so it was rather a experiment.
But it´s the same by the complete progress. It developed himself by the way.
So mostly I must change my gameplan.

Special thanks to surf-n-turf for this amazing and cool picture of the Tiki.
It´s so funny and well-fitting. Thanks for your time and effort.
I think I´ll show it on our homepage, when I´ll post the Tiki pictures.

Benella, yes you are right! There are some similarities between Hulk and the spiky fellow.
perhaps, it´s like in surf-n-turf´s picture. The Tiki gets nervous if there are beauty girls in the near.

So, Gman is correct! I must get rid of him soon, before he catches my steady or all the other girls.
And till then I follow Benzart´s tip, to lock him up in the closet.
So everyone is save till he move to austria.

I think Michael will has him under control, cause he is his owner.

Oh, what I will do next?
Since a long time I´m working on a voodoo box.
I want to adapt an old first aid box for a voodoo armoire.
But it needs a little bit more time, befor I want to show the pictures.

At this time I´m building with ramba-zamba our first Tiki mugs, which will produced by cheeky-tiki.
Extra, I have a cooperation with an jeweler from Munich.
We want to create a Tiki ring out of silver.
In January I will start to create the new Tiki colection for our next years exebitions.

Greetings, Haikai

What a bummer! It´s happend! I didn´t warned ramba-zamba, before he vistited the closet.

B

Michael "ramba zamba" is a very lucky man because he is the owner of this tiki and the owner of the previous lono too (if I'm not wrong) I think that Ramba Zamba must play to the lotery... or show his own carvings !

:tiki: Ben :tiki:

Benella, thats a mistake. There are too many Michaels in my environment.
Micheal (ramba-zamba) that´s the guy on the last picture.
He is my college and friend. He is a painter and also a member on TC.
Here is his thread: ramba-zamba

Michael the owner of the Lono is an other guy,
but he lifes in the same town like my college and me.

And at last the owner of the last Tiki (with the spikes) is Michael from Austria.
So, you see that´s 3 different people with the same name.
With the name Peter it´s the same thing. I think I know 5!

Greetings, Kai

Wow man. I have somehow missed this thread - BIG mistake, some great stuff going down in here. Now excuse me while I go get a towel to wipe up the drool and do another run through...

love your style

H

Iorana friends,

finally I find the time to drop a line. It´s my first time to post something on TC for this year.
So it´s time for some new pictures of my latest project.
But first I want to thank benella, Yubaba, hewey and rugbymatt for their nice entries and greetings.
Spezial thank to benella for "Bump" ramba-zamba´s and my threads.

And now I want to show you some new pics of my last month work.
Perhaps you can remember, that I told you I would create a voodoo box.
The impulse to create this box, was once again bigbrotiki with his thread "Tiki Microcosms".
For this I used an old wooden first aid box, which I found in my garage.

First I grinded the box, removed the old paint, gave it some ornaments and carved a new doorknob.
I tryed to give the ornaments and the doorknob some marquesan style and finished all together
with different wood stains.

And now we open the creepy box and look inside!

And here you can the see the lord of the voodoo box. The little fellow is a native of the
easter island. A magician from the "Long Ear" clan. I figured him out of clay and finished
him with some colors, plumes, shells and maize hair.
On the left and right corner are two bamboo pipes with Tiki faces.
The faces are also from clay and I colored them with the same wood stain.
On the left side you can also see a little shrunken head wit shells and plumes.
The interior of the box I decorated with exotic materials like bamboo, palm matting, shells....
The electric with the battery, I hid under the double bottom. When you open the door,
the lamps will lighten automatically.

Here you can see the lord a little bit better with his tattoos and jewel.

Here are the bamboo pipes with the Tiki faces. I closed their eyes with a transparent plastic film.
Behind the pipes are little LED lamps and so the Tiki eyes are lighten.

On the bottom of the bamboo pipes you can open little doors with fixed boxes.
Into the boxes you can put joss sticks. If you ignite them and close the doors,
the Tikis will spit smoke out of their mouth.

Here you can see the shrunken head a little bit better. I figured him also out of clay
and gave him maize hair.
Behind this door you can find the mystical secret of the voodoo box. But be careful,
becaus the the lord will save the secret very well!
On the door I fixed some servicing which look like tapa and little bamboo bars.

Inside the the small room is a pot with some real bones and a fearsome skull with shell eyes.
The walls I also decorated with different tapa servicing and behind the bone pot
you can see the Tiki god of the whole voodoo box. He hold the mastery above "Mana" and "Taboo".

O.K. and here you can see the complete lighting when it´s dark. Down right,
you can see the electronic switch. The lamps will turn off, if you close the door of the box.

In the last picture can see a little bit the smoke, when it gets out of the Tiki´s mouth.
It´s hart to take a picture of the smoke, but I hope you will visualize it.

So, now you have seen what I did in the last time. I hope you will enjoy it.
Next I´ll start with my upcoming project, the Tiki ring out of silver.
So long greetings from Bavaria,

Haikai

Awesome job, love the level of detail.

Lighting is so important.

Holy crap that is cool, by far one of the best things I Have seen on TC. I'm still floored by the attention to detail that you have put into these boxes. Very nice carving on the outside, very creepy on the inside.

B

Wonderful voodoo box, Haikai.
Very nice creation.

Benjamin.

What a Spectacular little box full of goodies, Creepy ones at that. VeryVery well done! What a neat concept.

That is gotta be one of the coolest display cases ever. Lots of imagination went into that. Hat's off to you.

Wow haikai you are so creative! This box is really incredible!!

WOW! That is one one the nicest pieces I have ever seen on TC. Truly unique and such attention to detail. Awsome! Just awsome!

P

You're a madman! What a project...I wish I had the balls (and the time) to do something so intricate and well-resolved. Truly a labour of love (and art). I have seen a few old museum fold-out cases recently that would look great tikified but the thought never crossed my mind. Hats off to you my friend.

Woah; Talk about opening Pandoras Tiki-Box!! What a great idea, a microcosm you can shut the door on (or rather, a microcosm to be discovered upon opening a door) Let me join the list of hat-taker-off'ers...

Ka pai! Tama :)

Thats amazing man! :)

Wonderful work! As others have said, the attention to detail on such a small scale is awesome.

You had me at the front door.

Then you opened it.

I'll be back the rest of the week looking at these pictures again.

Looking forward to the next piece, congratulations on this one!

H

Aloha,

oh man! Thank you all for your nice entries and motivating words.
I feel very honored, when I read how you enjoyed the box. Thank you very much.
It´s great that I can use my hundredth post on TC to answer on such comments.
Soon, I will be bussy in my next job, that I could show you new pics.
But I feel like Paipo, enough time is always a problem.
Sadly, I posted not often, but I relish the time at TC.
It gives me endless inspirations and fresh impetus.

Haikai,

Just want to throw in with everyone else...this alter is just spectacular! An extremely cool direction.

Quality not quantity. Your posts are much anticipated & enjoyed!

More relish! Tama :)

Amazing work- WOW!!

H

Aloha!

I was bussy in the last week and so I have some new pictures for you.
I created a marquesan tiki out from cottonwood. The tiki is about 20 inch high.
After I colored it with moorbrown wood stain, I polished the little fellow with Wax.
So the wood got a nice pattern and polishe.
This Tiki will be one of my contribution for the London Luau´s "Tiki Art Show".
I hope you´ll enjoy my latest pictures and the little black dwarf.
Greetings from Bavaria, Haikai

nice job.

Like a good hotrod, great stance is everything, plus the colour is perfect

When is the London Luau's ? 'cause if I can... Paris is not really far...

Bravo,

Benjamin.

Nice pieces HaiKai!! I loved looking through this thread!

H

Thanks a lot guys! Very nice compliments! :D
I´ll do my best on the next tiki to get them again.

benella, the London Luau will take place from 8th to 10th June.
Sadly, I won´t be there, because happily I´ll spend my holidays in your beautiful country.
I´ll spend 2 weeks at the Atlantic Ocean in the near of Sulac sur Mer (80 km above Bordeaux).

But I can approve you to visit the London Luau. Last year it was a realy great and HOT party.

Everything you do really taps into the classic era poly-pop vibe Haikai. They all look like they could have stepped out of one of those vintage postcards from one of the legendary locations. Great to see this guy hanging free and proud too - more tikis need to be packin'.

H

Aloha guys!

Paipo, thanks for the compliment.

This time, in Bavaria the spring is very early. Last year we had at the same time lots of snow
and now it´s like summer. So I´m realy motivated and bussy at my tiki garage. No more cold fingers!

Long time ago I told you from the "tiki silver ring", which I want to create in cooperation with
„Jeweler Kurzan“ from Munich. Finally, I found the time and figured out the wax model.
Here you can see the first step of the tiki ring.

In March, I carved a little pendant for my buddy Michael (ramba-zamba).
I created the tiki face out of a old piece of cherry wood. The wood has a beautiful texture and color
and a crack above the left eye. After sanding, I polisched it with wax.

The happy guys!

And at last, here are some pictures of my latest work. I figured out a tiki plaster model for a key fob,
which I want to use for making a mold. Than I´ll try to cast it in synthetic resin.

Mahalo, Haikai

H

Haikai, I just love checking this thread when you post your pictures. It is a pleasure. Your work is so precise and detail oriented. Your shapes are so balanced and creative. Your work is amazing.

Put me down for a key fob - looks great, nice expression and bold lines.

B

Hey HaiKai, I Really love that cottonwood marquesan you did, it really has a Presence!
Explain the story of all that Beautiful stickered wood in the background of all his pictures. Looks like a Whole Warehouse full of it there and between that and the tiki my drool rate is Full Blast! Is it for carving or wood turning? And THEN you had to go throw that beautiful Maori Wax Master and the drool is in full gear. But do you stop There? NO Way you say, You have a beautiful cherry pendant and then a plaster key fob to throw at us. I Can't STAND it, it's Way too much! What else you got?
Don't forget the envious stacks of wood.. :) :) :)

B

Hey Hai Kai, you're too mad for me
When you send a post it is always a festival
