Greetings,

I am fairly new to the Tiki art scene. I am a Freelance Illustrator based in Michigan (no Tikis here!) and I have dabbled in several categories of art including: Comics, Children's Educational Books, Role Playing Game Art, Pin-Ups, Fine Art, Coloring Books, etc.
A few years back I stumbled onto the Low brow art scene via Juxtapoz magazine and the world of Tiki soon followed.

Lately, I have been browsing around Tiki Central, checking out all of the amazing art, while trying to work up the courage to post some of my own.

Mystiki is reeeeeeeally nice - and I want to read the graphic novel that obviously goes with it ... right now!

Tiki Shark : Thanks! I'm a big fan of your work as well. Your in-progress posts are great. Graphic Novel, eh? Hmmm, that's an idea I may have to explore. :)

hewey : Thanks! The Les Girls image was actually a piece from my sketchbook. It was a serendipitous composition. I scanned the page, got rid of the extraneous sketches and added the colored blocks and text. One of the nice things about sketchbooks is that often relationships between disparate images will occur on their own.

uncle trav: Thanks! A Tiki lounge in/near K-zoo? Who'd a thunk it? I live in GR and there is nothing here. Thanks for the heads up about the Locating Tiki page. I'll have to check it out.

Another guy from Michigan. The quantity isn't here but the quality in all the TCers who are from Michigan is high. Been really liking everyones Hula girls w/ tiki that have been popping up. I hope to do one, one of these days. Great work and a big welcome

As far as nudity, I'd suggest just post the link to the image in your post, with a note saying it's a nudie. That way people can decide if they want to view it or not. The problem with a note in the title is that in 6 months time (with a different title) someone might go through the whole thread and get no warning to the pics... It also depends on how 'naughty' it is', like some of Coop's girls show everything and are basically pornagrphic, but a vintage topless hula girl should be fine.

hewey : Thanks. The images I was thinking of are pretty tame. Mostly topless . . . nothing pornographic. I'll add some links in my next post.

Here is an image from a gallery show I was a part of late last year. The show was a four man affair with fellow comic book/fantasy artists Jack Snider, Scott Rosema and Mike Mason. My portion of the show was based on an amalgam of Pulp art, B-movies, Serials and Men's Adventure Magazines. This was the only Tiki image.

This was also a commission. This time of Frank Cho's character, Brandy, from Liberty Meadows. When a client gives me free reign

Grog: Thanks! That was the feeling I was going for with these. It's hard to beat those classic pulp magazine illustrations.

I actually met Frank Kelly Freas once. I was one of the quarterly winners of the Illustrators of the Future contest for Bridge Publications (They put out all of the L. Ron Hubbard material). They flew me out to Los Angeles for the award ceremony and Scientology Indoctrination Clinic ( I kid . . . sort of). Mr. Freas was one of the jurors for the contest and was on hand at the awards dinner. Also on hand were legendary editor, Julius Schwartz, and the woman who voices Bart Simpson (I forget her name). There was a tour of the LRH Museum and a converted Hollywood hotel that turns out brand new Scientologists on a regular basis. All in all, it was one of the weirder experiences of my life. :lol:

I like to add an "air of mystery" to some of these things. It allows the viewer to fill in the blanks for him/herself.

Here is a new commission piece featuring a couple of DC Comics characters.

Big Barda is preparing for a dip in a tropical lagoon when Gorilla Grodd rushes
in and steals her stuff. That Grodd is one naughty ape. :)

Anyhoo, the gent who commissioned this piece was good enough to allow me to
keep things tikified. That made it much more fun to draw.

So, seeing that is DC, I had to look the characters up.

So Grodd is a super intelligent ape that can telepathically control weaker minds.

That is pretty much the coolest comic character I've heard of.

Apparently Grodd is a bit of a perv as well stealing the ladies clothes. Great stuff you have going on over here, I really like the detail and style.

And now, here are the sketches that I promised Brad I would post.

Backstory:
A short while ago, I was perusing an issue of Cinema Retro magazine which contained several articles
on cool spy flicks including the "Man from U.N.C.L.E." movies and "Deadlier than the Male" featuring
Bulldog Drummond. It also featured a number of reproductions of nifty poster art for said flicks.
I followed that up with the DVD of "Casino Royale" (Niven, not Craig) and an island themed episode
of "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea". I was fairly saturated in 60's imagery.
Needless to say, this got the old creative juices flowing and I started sketching some jazz of my own.
It was during that time that I decided to check in with TC. To my surprise, the talented Mr. Parker had
just posted the pencil sketches for his first amazing Tiki Noir print. :o
It seems we were thinking along the same lines! Quite the happy co-inky-dink, don'tcha think? :)

Anyhoo, enough of the jibba jabba. On with the art:
