GROG saw your art at the Planet Rooth art gallerry. Looks great great. GROG like.

no kidding! perfection!!! such a ice set.

B

duuuuuude,

thanks for posting up the killer art!!

i really enjoyed your art at the TC show and would have snapped up all 4 if u wasnt flat broke!

i was shocked that they werent sold as soon as the doors opened. I blame the crappy economy!

anyway, a belated 'welcome to the fold'!!!!

alohas, tom

I gotta agree with Toe. Great stuff. Perfect size.
You gonna have prints available of these? My wife really liked your work as well.

Great work, your work should have sold immediately. I think you really have something to contribute - I think Tiki Art needs you.

First off, an announcement: My Tiki Nouveau piece is now available as a sepia toned print from
Imagekind. Click here to view the gallery: http://anthonycarpenter.imagekind.com/Illustrationville

A belated thank you to Tikiracer. I overlooked you in a previous post. Sorry about that, Chief!
GROG, Sophista-tiki: Thank you! :)
BigToe: Thanks for the welcome. It was an honor to be in such good company at the show.
As for sales, it's always at the whim of the fates. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. While I
would have loved to have made a sale, I am just happy that the work is being seen. And, besides, it's not
over yet, so there's still a chance. :)
Matt Reese: Thanks! Prints of these wil be available through Imagekind soon. Keep an eye on the Marketplace Forum.
Robb Hamel: Thanks, Robb. I will keep trying to bring something interesting to the plate.

Speaking of interesting, four pieces of mine will be appearing in the upcoming second edition of "Eye Candy from
Strangers", a compilation of good girl art from BrandStudios Press. You can read about (and order) the
first edition (two volumes!) here: http://tinyurl.com/3n998l.

Here are the two tiki themed pieces that will be featured:

If anyone's interested in seeing the two non-tiki pieces, let me know and I will post them.

Dude,

Post the extra pics! I need to see more, your work really kicks ass!

Thanks, tiki-smith!

Here are the other two pieces from the upcoming "Eye Candy..." book:

Left: Eyeball Beat Girl
Right: Retro Pop Doll

A green glowing eye ball! Kool!
Love it - as usual!

Thanks, Brad. Everyone needs to draw at least one floating, green, glowing
eyeball in their lifetime. It helps to balance the universe.

Here is a recently completed commission piece.
The client had seen my other works and wanted an
amalgam of my usual subjects (island girls, tikis, tentacles, etc.)
with The Batman thrown into the mix. This is the result.

Batman: Danger on Tiki Island

Damn, this stuff is cool.

Holy green crap - I can't even explain how cool that is.
(Big Batman fan - well, up until the early-90's with that 'Knightfall' plot which totally lost me)
Man, I'd love a storyline based around this idea!

Robb, twitch: Thanks, guys. That was a fun one to work on.

Greetings all,
Man, I haven't posted in a while. Gotsta make up for lost time. :)

Here are several tiki sketches for your viewing pleasure. Will
they ever become paintings? Only time will tell.

Recently, I decided to try my hand at wood carving. It seemed like the
only way to go was to jump in with both feet. Here is the result.
A 9.5"x12.5" basswood plaque. Stained/painted version coming soon.

All that painting talent and you can carve well too.

You must be stopped at all costs!

I'm still numb from how cool the "Batman : Danger on Tiki Island" piece is!
Stellar work!

Hey nice work, again.

There is something very captivating about the little hovering tiki in your sketches. Seems like there is a great story behind it.

Tell us more...

Thanks, guys. :)
tikiracer: There's no story behind the little hovering guy. He just popped up on a sketch page one day.
I've done a more finished version of him which I will scan and post here soon.

In the meantime, here is a new one from a series of fake exploitation movie poster images I have been working on.

This is the poster for a 60's Mondo rarity called "TABOO TIKI TRIP!"
The film explored, in quasi-documentary style (read: stock footage mixed with
naughty new footage shot by the producers), the weird world of drug induced Tiki
parties. The stock footage of tiki culture and authentic native rituals took
a back seat to what producer, Rod Turuwyn, knew would bring in crowds: footage
of drug crazed youth indulging in sex and psychedelia set to the tribal
rhythms of the Pop-Polynesian beat. Turuwyn hit the nail on the head and the
picture turned a tidy profit for Threadbare pictures in the Summer of 1967 before
being pulled from theaters and shelved due to a crack down on "immoral entertainment".
By the time Threadbare's lawyer got the blue noses to back down, the original negative and
all of the release prints had disappeared, never to be seen again.

All that's left of this way-out production are a few posters and publicity stills.

This piece is available on eBay. See the Marketplace forum for the link.

Greetings,

Here is the finished version of the "Floaty Tiki" mentioned above.
It is pencil on 8"x10" smooth finish bristol.

When I die I want my soul to go to an alternate universe where Taboo Tiki Trip is the reality of the place. More Taboo Tiki Trip - PLEASE.

This work is unbelievable! Completely unbelievable.

Thanks, Robb. If you just wish hard enough, your wish will come true. :)

This new commission piece contains minor nudity so I thought I would just
post a link for those who wish to view it: http://tinyurl.com/78qfpv

It's the latest in the "Rescue" series for collector Kevin Hare. This time he asked for
a tiki lounge setting involving Bettie Page, a thief and Plastic Man coming to the rescue.
How could I refuse such a request? :)

The other "Rescue" images can be found in the various "MyArt: Pin-ups" galleries.

I also slipped some tikis into this piece for a friend's comic book project: http://tinyurl.com/6tkncm

Brilliant!
Some how I feel artasarous's super precise pencil work is reminiscent of the wonderful illustration of Virgil Finlay.
Both have this bountiful energy, and vast technical skill building together to create gems of fantasy illustration.
The Betty Page Plastic man piece is FAN-tastic.

Oh yeah, and back in the late 90's I swear that I'd been to some full moon rave-parties here on the Big Island that were totally the "Taboo Tiki Trip"!!!!

And I totally dig the H P lovecraft feel in the "khwan" page.

OH, If there was EVER a "Hellboy vs a Tiki God" I'd vote for Artosaurus to create it! Yeah, totally! (Hmmm, maybe I better ask about how much commissions are after I make some money this year)

Artasarous is MY HERO!

When GROG grow up, GROG want draw like Artosaurus.

This is almost painfully WOWish stuff.

Tiki art needs YOU.

Tiki Shark: Thanks! You're making it very difficult for me to slack off on these things. Finlay's a lot to live up to.
It's nice to dream though. sigh
GROG: Me thank you.
Robb: "Tiki art needs YOU!" That would make a great recruitment poster. :) Maybe with Don Ho in place of Uncle Sam.

As soon as Brad mentioned Hellboy, I quickly sketched the following:

The ideas are brewing. :)

oh yes - Hellboy vs ku. The right hand of doom smashing up stone guardian tikis. Fighting Pele, through jets of lava, which can't burn him [he's from hell!] but it does solidify around him. He says "ahh crap" and then uses the samaritan [which he was holding] to shot his way out. Finally using ku's head to plug the lava flow, saving the village. The villagers try and put lei around his neck but it bursts into flames and he's still red hot. Last frame[s] hellboy lights cigar from the lava embers walks off down the beach...
Go artosaurus make it happen. Please...

Mr. Carpenter... that is too cool!
Tikiracer, awesome story idea... I say you should contact Mike Mignola right away!

Thanks, Gents.

very cool!
the rectangles really give this guy a sense of mysterious power
looks Great :D

Yoiks! It seems like forever since I last posted.
A major life setback kept me out of the loop for a while.
I'm gettin' back on track again, though.

News:

  1. Two of the pieces from the Planet Rooth show were part of a local
show here in Michigan. As if that weren't enough (Tiki rarely makes an
appearance in these parts), one of them actually sold!! Stardust Tiki now
has a new home. The invasion has begun...

  2. My art will grace Page 7 of the next issue of Tiki Magazine! Thanks, Nick!
I'ma so excited. I did two pieces and couldn't choose twixt 'em so I sent 'em
both in and let Nick decide which to print. As soon as I find out which one
made the grade, I will post the other here.

For now here's a peak at the art:

More art soon...

Very Cool Anthony and Congratulations!

GROG like the one on the left.

Congrats on the sale and for the Page 7 in Tiki Magazine.

Thanks, Bora Boris and GROG!

Here's a little nonsense from a sketch page:

Greetings,

Here is the under-painting for my "New Guinea Contract" swap piece.

The deadline is loooming....

wonderrful!

Very impressive, I love the long shadow on the guy - great noir.

Brad, Robb: Thanks, Gents! :)

Here's a little somethin' from the ol' sketchbook.
I jazzed it up with a little digital voodoo.

A stylish mid-century shopper scoping out masks for the
jungle room in her brand new Eichler ranch house:

Great as usual Anthony!

Can we see any more of the sneak peak?

Anthony!
Great piece there!
her discerning expression and attitude..
she wants to get the PERFECT mask!
right on the money with this one!
you're too consistently good to be human....

Love your graphite work Anthony. Cool stuff!

bump

Congrats on the Tiki Mag gig!

I love looking at your work - great style and craftsmanship.

Plus seeing someone else do this kind of work out here in the middle of "Git-R-Done" land is exciting.

T

yeah a big page seven. Score for Michigan tiki talent
