Dry Orange Curaçao?

Although I come from the Netherlands, the land of tulips, cheese and Bols and de Kuyper, I just can't find a real bottle of Orange Curaçao. I've been to ten different liquor stores at least, but they just don't sell it and all claim that Triple Sec and Blue Curaçao are the same stuff, but by reading all the threads here I know that isn't so.
Since a few months I see Bols Dry Orange Curaçao popping up on the shelves of some stores and I wonder if anyone here knows what it is. Is it the real deal? If it is dry isn't it the same as Triple Sec?

I haven`t tried it but i believe it may be good. I have searched the German EBay for Orange Curacao but not found much..but i have a one occasion sen this Bols dry Orange and is thinking about buying it.

I just fast googled. It seems that dried orange peels from the oranges of Curacao is why Bols uses the word "dried." I assume dried is proper.

He is a quote from http://www.curacaoliqueur.com/
"We are the only original since we have the only Curacao liqueur processed with the dried peels of the "Laraha" (bitter orange native of Curacao)." Real quote from http://www.curacaoliqueur.com

Since you are from the Netherlands shouldn't there be some sort of "trade agreement" with Curacao, Netherlands Antilles? Orange Curacao would be the adopted liquor of the Netherlands.

I am listening to podcast 81 right now! Dig it man! :)

Curaceau, ha!

"Real" Orange Curacao? There is only one, Senior Curacao Of Curacao.

But that may be just a bit of marketing hype. In my opinion, it doesn't matter too much. Oh, it matters some, but not enough to say there's only one. I'm more of the opinion to consider other high quality orange curacaos.

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for, but perhaps this comparison that I did will help:

This was done in response to a very long & involved discussion on orange liquer here on TC:

Well I still don't know what to put in my Mai Tai's, and haven't found the right answer here on TC.
I made them with Triple Sec, but it tastes bad. Lately I've been making them with Cointreau, and I think that tastes quite good but, but the Cointreau flavor is to dominant. So maybe Dry Orange Curaçao would be the "real" thing.

And we may have a business agreement with the Netherlands Antilles, but I've never seen that Curaçao of Curaçao anywhere.

Also from Holland, I was glad to read this blog post by the Bum.

So it seems that the Dry Orange Curacao is a good choice since we don't have easy access to Marie Brizard or Senior Curacao here in Holland.

but I've never seen that Curaçao of Curaçao anywhere.

Is it sold anywhere outside the island? I have never seen it anywhere here or online.

My local liquor store didn't have it in stock, so I ordered a bottle that came in today.
I just made a Mai Tai, and the Dry Orange Curacao really makes a positive difference.
The orange flavor is more on the background now, which makes the balance a lot better.

I'm going to sip the rest now :)

Nice to hear that! i discovered a Swedish website yesterday that has it so im going to order. I also just recently got a bottle of Santa Teresa orange rum liqueur and i think it also could be nice in a Mai Tai if a smaller amount is used as it has a very strong, but brilliant and very lovely orange taste. Unfortunately i cannot try it out in a Mai Tai yet..because ive got a bad cold..

Mai Tai's are great for curing colds!

LFT

But i cannot feel much taste..so wouldnt it be a bit of a waste? or maybe i should have a killer Mai Tai? :drink: Im also making a brutally strong Ginger beer.. and Ginger is really good for colds too..

Earlier on VJB, Jr used de Kuyper in his Mai Tai recipe, but he abandoned that for Bols. If you try de Kuyper now it is hideous. I use Bols because it's the best avaialble. Haven't tried Senior Curaçao Of Curaçao, but Scottes often raves about it, so it's definitely worth getting if you can.

I'd say buy the Bols. It's available and the best among the few brands I can get around here.

I brought some of the Bols Dry Orange Curacao back from Europe. Am I glad I have it? Sure! Did it transform, magically uplift, and alter my cocktails to a new dimension, - NO! It puts a different, very slight, variation on them. When compared with domestic Bols. Marie Brizard, and Senior, one would be hard pressed in a blind comparison to pinpoint the Dry. On its own, say, with ice, I'd bet at least a 75% ident rate.
