We're very proud to add legendary Malibu mega-carver Zach Zachary to the Freaky Boutiki's growing line up of artists. Attendees of last years Oasis will certainly remember his towering tiki monolith guarding the entrance to the Hanalei outdoor vending area. Check out Zach's unique and recognizably styled large masks and poles available now. Whitnesses wearing your doorbell to a nub? Keep them at bay with this giant palm mask from our buddy Malibu mega-carver Zack Zachary. This gentle giant has a groovy soul patch and several cutouts to allow creative backlighting. Nothing makes a woman's eyes light up on Christmas morning like some pretty new jewelry under the tree. At least that's what South Africa's diamond industry keeps telling us. Well, if blood diamonds mined by slaves aren't your thing, Santa's come to the Freaky Boutiki early this year with a bag full of jewelry made by American artists of their own free will, slaves only to their love of Tiki! Come see our groovy resin pendants by Kirby, Benzart, Gecko, Meiko and Eric the Red... Genuine Mission Beach driftwood pendants by Eric the Red as well as Hawaiian hardwood pendants carved by some guy named HodadHank... Hand blown glass jewelry and gifts from Fire Monkey Glass, John Modzelewski, Paisley, Turtle and many more. ... and for your old auntie who's hated tiki ever since Trader Vic got her drunk and didn't call her the next day, we also have a fine selection of coral, horn, turquoise, bone, cinnabar, bamboo and jade. |

Once called "the Brooks Brothers of the Pacific" Reyn Spooner Hawaiian Traditionals began in 1956 in Waikiki with one sewing machine and continues to create exceptional aloha wear to this day. I'm betting you've got at least one of their vintage beauties hanging in your closet right now. Well, their contemporary designs are just as worthy of a space in your collection and Freaky Boutiki's got 'em! These guys are proud of their history and it shows in their patterns. How many of you grabbed one of their sweet Trader Vic's shirts? Heck I even got an extra for when I wear out the first! ...and when Disney wanted to re-create their Enchanted Tikiroom host shirts who did they go to? Yep. (I think this is supposed to be a secret so ietquay aboutway ethay isneyDay irtshay) Reyn's patterns last only a season or two before being retired forever so get your future-vintage shirt now before the mad rush! Here's just a few samples of our currant stock to wet your whistle! New Papuan and Tahitian patterns coming soon! - Hodaddy Swell tiki details, eh? (Sure a new shirt costs more than an old shirt, but imagine the time you'll save trying to get the BO & BBQ stains out of that "fabulous" old rag you found at the Kiwanis yard sale! ) [ Edited by: hodadhank 2008-02-19 18:37 ] |

Is there a secret TC parking lot? I was in your neck of the woods today and wanted to stop by but I couldn't find a parking space within walking distance. I didn't see a lot of people out and about on Mission but all of the spaces were taken, even in the pay lots. |

Yep that's happened to me before as well. Usually I can find a parking spot in the pay lot across the street, but it's small (something like 10 or 12 spaces) so it gets full easily, especially on weekends. Because of parking issues, I usually try to make all my Freaky visits on weekdays. Hodadhank...how about painting the curb in front and designating 'TC ONLY.' :D IMO Freaky Boutiki is one of the best for tiki shopping in San Diego. One of my many reasons for going regularly is that they carry Munktiki mugs, and the customer service is stellar. |

Sailor Jerry Collins is considered by many to be the greatest tattooist of his generation. His first parlour was in Honolulu's seedy mid-century Chinatown, not far from where his mortal remains lay to this day in Honolulu's Punchbowl Crater. Yet Jerry's influence remains strong thanks to the small Philadelphia company entrusted with his legacy. Freaky Boutiki has and will always carry a large selection of official Sailor Jerry barware, tee's and workshirts. Made in The US of A! *** UPDATE*** [ Edited by: hodadhank 2008-04-08 20:08 ] |

Sure volcanic heat changing sand to glass aint no big ting on the islands, but even Pele might be hard pressed to change sand into a beautiful Humuhumunukunukuapua'a, Yellow Tang, Clown Fish or Jellyfish. But what really makes the handblown glass of Turtle's Treasures of the Sea is special is that Turtle is also a real life oceanographer. UPDATE [ Edited by: hodadhank 2008-02-09 17:24 ] |

With our talented brudda's many ties to San Diego, we always try have some special Gecko pieces on hand for collectors.
La Mariana mugs in especial blue glaze signed just for you by Geck, and available by his mighty decree no other place than the fabled Honolulu sailing club and Mission Beach's own Freaky Boutiki. F-Yeah! OK, we were all pretty drunk that night and I kept getting distracted by the gorgeous velvet nude of his fiancee Alie but i'm pretty sure thats how it went down, anyway... seeing is believing.
Many of the hand delivered Gecko's were gobbled up at the Tiki Farm event last month or Tiki Centralites savey enough to drop me PM wishlists, but I've still got more than a few choice goodies. ...including a triple Ku footed volcano bowl (blk w/rd lava), red speckled War God bank. Suuuuper cool!, Double Marq mug (*** signed & shaka'd by Da Geck!***), autographed Stink Eye bobble head resin and more. [ Edited by: hodadhank 2008-05-04 12:54 ] |

Our current supply of Fire monkey Glass still include the original Bodhiglass signature millefiori. Huh? Milly for what now? The Italian millefiori technique named for "a thousand flowers" involves the production of glass canes or rods, known as murrine, with multicolored patterns which are viewable only from the cut ends of the cane. Thin slices of cut cane (murrine) are pressed into the bead surface, forming mosaic-like patterns, while the glass is still hot. Now that you know all the insane work it takes to make a tiny millefiori, I'm sure your can imagine what goes into all the other features of these playful irresistable beads and pendants. BTW I sold the cute purple puffer pendant yesterday so try to ignore it as a potential stocking stuffer, but I'm sure Bodhiboy will make me some more next year! Hot stuff!! Glassblowers dig the heat. Why do you think they're all tan? |

Socal surfers are well aware of Drew Brophy. His work can be seen on everything from bikes to cellphones these days but his custom board paintings are what made this San Clemente surfer one of the worlds most sought after artists. Freaky Boutiki ohana were lucky enough to watch him handpaint an entire surfboard right in front of our shop! The vivid prints you see are photographs of actual handpainted surfboards! Of course Freaky Boutiki has gone the extra mile to have the dry mounted on black foam core so you don't have to rush out and frame them to enjoy them! |

We never know what unusual relics Truus is going to dig up for us from the Bosko vault and that's half the fun. Erik The Red, aka NoNaMe is Ohana. A prodigious carver, driftwood whittler, resin caster and collector of all things tiki, I believe he started carving this tiki while I was in Waikiki last year. It's a replica of the tiki I found wrapped in a living banyon tree behind the rubble of Trader Vic's. Pictured below are just a few of Erik's driftwood and resin pendants. Note: The large black resin cast was commissioned for the bartender at Mission Beach's now closed Liars Club.

We're very happy to add one of San Diego's most prolific carvers Bay Park Buzzy Sure Buzzy may be best known for his tastfull nudity, but he's also probably carved more tikis than Stephen King's written scary stories. If you ever have the pleasure of visiting Chez Buzz nestled above the 5 Freeway east of Mission Bay expect to wade through sawdust, marvel at the Coco Joe collection, play with the Kiva and cringe during the story of when Buzzy almost cut his head in half with a chainsaw. Buzzy is an up and comer who will not be denied his slice of Tiki glory no matter the cost! This particular tiki would look neat-o in your house, car or local subway and boasts an awesome M-16 style hand hold for easy carrying!

ARTIST PROFILE: PokoloLolita, Mission Beach CA To hear her tell it, the secret's in the toe! My far better half PakoLoloita has been weaving organic hemp as long as I've known her so when she presented me with a nearly spot on replica of a traditional polynesian double boars tusk necklace I was not suprised by her abilities. When a crazy long haired carving superstar cornered me at Tiki Island to ask me if a similar necklace might be made for him I was also not suprised. Another satisfied cusToe-mer! At Oasis7 Chop Village weaving on our unexpectedly controversial drop cloth. These necklaces demand attention. Masculine yet very comfortable they get softer with wear without compromising strength.
Here's the one she made for me: UPDATE Interested in your own PokoloLolita woven hemp Boars tusk necklace? Please PM HodadHank or e-mail [email protected] as only special orders are being accepted at this time. The Aritst is very busy preparing a special series to be unveiled Saturday @ Oasis8.
