I think it's gonna be there for awhile ~ :music: Hawaiian Eye, Hawaiian Eye :music: ~

Yeah, I've got "The Hukilau Song" stuck in my head. Earworm! ARGGGGHHHH!

I have read several postings that Hukilau will continue on. YEAH!! But the only official word I can find is that Hukilau ended with this event. Is there some official word that Hukilau will continue? Christie, I wait patiently to hear it from you or from an official source.

Mahalo (keeping my fingers crossed tight)!

Myke,

I was at the Mai-Kai for the announcement that they would stay open and in my opinion while it was implied that there would be another Hukilau it was not explicitly said. Christie said something along the lines of 'let me recover for a couple weeks and think about it' -- so I assume an announcement will be made at some point but I would wait for that before considering it gospel. But I am a cynic by nature.

She was also promoting a new event in Tucson, AZ, for May 2009 called The South West Pacific (www.thesouthwestpacific.com) and I don't know if that would impact when and if another Hukilau would be scheduled.

Cheers.

All of you people who got to go to Hukilau/Maikai and party without GROG---YOU SUCK!

Damn you all to hell.

Uh oh...Did GROG get hit with a grumpy stick?
Wouldn't the west coast ohana let GROG come along with them?

Well, I missed GROG. Had to pick on Kinny twice as much to make up for GROG not being there...

Thanks for the information, rev_thumper. It seems enough reliable people were making this claim, but I was just curious how true it is. I will sit back and watch the postings.

Mahalo!

It took a few days for the experience to set in, a combination of sensory overload, excitement and
exhaustion. The entire event was charged with a jubilation and cheer. The seminars, the shows,
the food, the drinks, the entertainment was all top-notch.

Having seen the Mai Kai for the first time, I was absolutely speechless as I worked my way
through the exterior, bar area, interior rooms and garden. The drinks were unbelievable. I took
Beach Bum Barry’s advice and had the Black Magic. I loved it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the company and experience. For all those that had a part, big or small in
putting on this event – thank you thank you thank you!

My only regret, not taking more time off.

It was so nice to see everyone again this year. I had a blast and was happy my bag of ZAZZ buttons survived my milk carton boat ordeal!! I handed out close to 150 of those buttons-my personal best! PS-there is one hidden in the Molokai bar at the Mai Kai too!

Mr. Smiley is the most thirstiesterest of
all!
Have a nice Tiki Day!
If you like it,it is ZAZZ! If you don't, give it a RAZZ.

Dude, I'm still finding those things hidden all over the place here at Casa de Mai Tai! I think Martin and the staff are still stumbling across them in Forbidden Island too, although I know that some are fairly well hidden. Glad to see that your Kon Tiki milk carton voyage was safe and successful, and glad to see you posting here on TC again!

Just as a side note, is there any word on the official 2008 Hukilau mug? The site mentions early June shipping, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Mahalo!

Speaking of the mug...I feel pretty lucky. 299 of 300. whew! that was close, I believe they always keep the first and last of a series!

In case anyone's still checking here for updates, the official Hukilau Web site now makes it official:

"We are pleased to announce the both The Hukilai and the Mai-Kai will survive."
http://www.thehukilau.com

If was my first and thankfully not my last Hukilau and I'd like to thank Tiki Kiliki for her amazing event. I know it was a rollercoaster weekend for you but the tiki gods were smiling on us in the end. We're all behind you regarding whatever you decide for the future.

What do you think? Let's get Dick Dale and Agent Orange to play the next one.

FYI, I just posted some pix to both the Hukilau and Mai-Kai Flickr groups:

And I'm sure everyone already knows about the photo thread here:

To all the locals, we'll see you at the Mai-Kai! Be sure to catch the live bands every Friday night and don't miss our monthly Hukilau reunion beginning July 11:

I wouldn't say it's funny at all Johnny Dollar, I would say it's more of a case of luck and never giving up!! Plus, the survival of the Mai-Kai - surely that's no laughing matter!! A reason to celebrate for sure!

guess it's how you look at it - i was googling to figure out at which hukilau i attended, that i bought a certain mug from FlounderART - and when i saw the subject line, i just thought it might be dissonant/confusing to some, considering that it has still been going on successfully every year since! no disrespect intended, more like:

aloha! :D

The Hukilau is one of the best tiki events I have been to for sure.
Am glad it's still around.
Congratz to all who work hard to make it happen.

Here is an old article about Mai Kai and Hukilau.
