Here is a recently completed commission piece.
The client had seen my other works and wanted an
amalgam of my usual subjects (island girls, tikis, tentacles, etc.)
with The Batman thrown into the mix. This is the result.

Man, I haven't posted in a while. Gotsta make up for lost time. :)

Here are several tiki sketches for your viewing pleasure. Will
they ever become paintings? Only time will tell.

Recently, I decided to try my hand at wood carving. It seemed like the
only way to go was to jump in with both feet. Here is the result.
A 9.5"x12.5" basswood plaque. Stained/painted version coming soon.

All that painting talent and you can carve well too.

You must be stopped at all costs!

I'm still numb from how cool the "Batman : Danger on Tiki Island" piece is!

tikiracer: There's no story behind the little hovering guy. He just popped up on a sketch page one day.
I've done a more finished version of him which I will scan and post here soon.

In the meantime, here is a new one from a series of fake exploitation movie poster images I have been working on.

This is the poster for a 60's Mondo rarity called "TABOO TIKI TRIP!"
The film explored, in quasi-documentary style (read: stock footage mixed with
naughty new footage shot by the producers), the weird world of drug induced Tiki
parties. The stock footage of tiki culture and authentic native rituals took
a back seat to what producer, Rod Turuwyn, knew would bring in crowds: footage
of drug crazed youth indulging in sex and psychedelia set to the tribal
rhythms of the Pop-Polynesian beat. Turuwyn hit the nail on the head and the
picture turned a tidy profit for Threadbare pictures in the Summer of 1967 before
being pulled from theaters and shelved due to a crack down on "immoral entertainment".
By the time Threadbare's lawyer got the blue noses to back down, the original negative and
all of the release prints had disappeared, never to be seen again.

All that's left of this way-out production are a few posters and publicity stills.

It's the latest in the "Rescue" series for collector Kevin Hare. This time he asked for
a tiki lounge setting involving Bettie Page, a thief and Plastic Man coming to the rescue.
How could I refuse such a request? :)

Brilliant!
Some how I feel artasarous's super precise pencil work is reminiscent of the wonderful illustration of Virgil Finlay.
Both have this bountiful energy, and vast technical skill building together to create gems of fantasy illustration.
The Betty Page Plastic man piece is FAN-tastic.

Oh yeah, and back in the late 90's I swear that I'd been to some full moon rave-parties here on the Big Island that were totally the "Taboo Tiki Trip"!!!!

And I totally dig the H P lovecraft feel in the "khwan" page.

OH, If there was EVER a "Hellboy vs a Tiki God" I'd vote for Artosaurus to create it! Yeah, totally! (Hmmm, maybe I better ask about how much commissions are after I make some money this year)

oh yes - Hellboy vs ku. The right hand of doom smashing up stone guardian tikis. Fighting Pele, through jets of lava, which can't burn him [he's from hell!] but it does solidify around him. He says "ahh crap" and then uses the samaritan [which he was holding] to shot his way out. Finally using ku's head to plug the lava flow, saving the village. The villagers try and put lei around his neck but it bursts into flames and he's still red hot. Last frame[s] hellboy lights cigar from the lava embers walks off down the beach...
Go artosaurus make it happen. Please...

Mr. Carpenter... that is too cool!

Yoiks! It seems like forever since I last posted.
A major life setback kept me out of the loop for a while.
I'm gettin' back on track again, though.

News:

1. Two of the pieces from the Planet Rooth show were part of a local
   show here in Michigan. As if that weren't enough (Tiki rarely makes an
   appearance in these parts), one of them actually sold!! Stardust Tiki now
   has a new home. The invasion has begun...

2. My art will grace Page 7 of the next issue of Tiki Magazine! Thanks, Nick!
   I'ma so excited. I did two pieces and couldn't choose twixt 'em so I sent 'em
   both in and let Nick decide which to print. As soon as I find out which one
   made the grade, I will post the other here.
