Summertime Down Under!

Howdy tc'ers, haven,t posted anything for awhile so i'd thought post some finished shots of the lono peice that i was working on.

Here he is burnt and ready for sand'n.

Got to luv those mouse sanders.

And some shots after some western jarrah stain

Sorry about the sideways pic's as Im using my freinds mac and being the computer
spaz that I am could'nt work out how to rotate them!Cheers Watango.

Lake Surfer, show at outre went great and the piece I carved sold which was kool, but unfortunately
decided to split a few months later so I'll have to come up with a replacement which is kool.
I'll posts some pic's of this piece soon pre and post split.Im currently off the chisels due to a run in with
a car on my pushie in which I came out the worst with a broken hand complete with pins(AWESOME)!
Cheers Watango

Yer killin me, here ya go.

I can see why that split!
I had one do the same thing., so I slathered on the wood glue, and wrapped a couple rachet straps around it for a day or two.

And what's a pushie???

4WD tiki-The lono guy in the last posts wasn't the guy that split and the cracks
that can be seen in the photos settled fine thankfully.Cheers Watango

Ps-pushy being aussie slang for pushbike or bicycle:)

H

Here you go.

Looks like you still have it. Good to see ya back carving it up.

B

Yeah, What he said, Definitely,, Tough about the hand and the splitz tho. What you got in the works?

Awesome artistry. I'm impressed and inspired. I want to learn to carve. Where does one begin???

Howdy guys, thanks for the comps and I'll be back with some more carvings

Sorry guys, caveman not nohow to work computer.cheers Watango

S

It's about time you're back.:P Nice work as always.

Caveman DOES know how to carve tikis and that's the most
important thing around here. Nice work, I have a sore neck from
twisting around to see 'em, but I love the carvings.

There's another caveman around here?! Beautiful work.

H

It is so cool to see the different styles people use when they carve. I think the texture of your tikis looks awesome, not to mention the carving too. Is there a special technique to get that look?

Swizzle-Thanks man,be back soon with more.
finally got my new carv'n space happen'n.
Conga-thanks for the comps,and I'm work'n
on the computer skills.
Bigt-thanks again.but wa all know there's
only one caveman round these parts!
Hiltiki-Cheers for flip'n him upright.
Grand poobah-Glad you dig him,to get the texture
is simple, don't sand and use a 4/20 pfeil.
Cheers Watango.

Hewey-thanks mate, bill pay'n work and the cold nights
have slowed things up but hope to get stuck in this w/end.Cheers Watango

Finally finished this guy!
Burn't and sanded.

One coat of Western Jarrah stain

Then another sand and a coat of teak.

Cheers Watango.

T

I don't know what Western Jarrah stain is. But it looks great! :)

BigT-Western jarrah is a type of Aussie hardwood and thanks for the comp.Cheers

Howdy Tcer's,Here's some shots of a tiki I carved for friend she wanted it based on a tongan
souvenier and plain, was alot faster to carve than my usual stuff and a heap of fun to boot.
pre stain and burn't and sanded.

1 coat of vintage teak.

MORE sand'n then 1 more coat of teak with a dash of a darker stain

Came out pretty kool and went to a happy home.Cheers Watango

Love the tortise shell look of this one. The effect is probably still there in the finished product, just hard to see in the pic because of the gloss.

T

Came out pretty kool and went to a happy home.Cheers Watango

It does have a great vintage look to it. Well done.

N

You have some awesome pieces wantango...I really like that wood and the finish you get out of it...wish I could get me some of that here in Fl :)

Thanks guys.

Had a friend pop over yesterday for some carv'n tips and we chopped this guy out in just under
6hrs,he's fan palm but a different species to Socal and was quite soft and stringy in places, should look
pretty kool in the yard.

Today it's back to something a bit more time consuming,
traditional hawaiian ku head out of ash.

Cheers Watango

P
