Tiki Shark: Thanks! You're making it very difficult for me to slack off on these things. Finlay's a lot to live up to.
It's nice to dream though. sigh
GROG: Me thank you.
Robb: "Tiki art needs YOU!" That would make a great recruitment poster. :) Maybe with Don Ho in place of Uncle Sam.

As soon as Brad mentioned Hellboy, I quickly sketched the following:

The ideas are brewing. :)

SOOOOOOOOOO wonderful!
In my perfect world you'd be doing nothing but graphic novel's about tiki's and super heroes full time.... and I'd be collecting them!

beadtiki: Thanks for buying the shirt. I hope it came out OK.

Hey folks,
It's been a while. My life has been going through some weird times of late. Hopefully, I will
be posting with some regularity soon.

In the meantime, I will be hanging out at Chin Tiki in Livonia, MI this Saturday hawkin' my wares.
If yer in the area, stop in and say howdy-do and buy till it hurts! :)

Here's the poster for the show:

Aloha!
Hope to see some of you there! :)

YEAH artosaurus is BACK!!!!!!!

SOOOOOOOOO good to see any new work from you.
Remember .... SPECTRUM is coming up. You better enter!
I can't be the only Tiki Tribe member in the show!

WOW! Just saw this thread! Amazing work Anthony! I really love all of it! The Batman commission is amazing as are all the women! Wish I could draw them like that!

Excellent work!

Robert

I have seen your posters up around town in the different fun shops around Ann Arbor

I hope to make it to the show once again for a lot of years in a row now. Fun little event to check out and see some stuff you only see on the internet or even don't see anywhere else.

Thanks, folks. It's nice to be back.

Here's some art. On the left is the piece chosen for Page 7 of the
Summer 2009 issue of Tiki Magazine: The Warrior ($400). Thanks, Nick!
On the right is the other piece I submitted: Starlight Tiki ($350). Both
are 8"x10" acrylic on mounted board.

The following is a piece I created for a local event called ArtPrize. It's big, noisy,
confusing competition for a big money prize that, alas, will never be awarded to a tiki piece.
Of course, that doesn't stop me from entering tiki art anyway! :)
Wild Wahine Wing Ding: 24" x 48" acrylic on canvas. $2000

Finally, here are some photos from the show at Chin Tiki in Livonia, MI:

Una belleza de trabajo! Mas mujeres por favor! Excelentisimos tikis!
Ole! X3

Many tanks, everybody! :)

Here is a Los Straitjackets poster I designed for a recent show
at Billy's Lounge here in Los Michigan. The show promoter gave me
free reign and I ran with it. I did a bunch of sketches involving 60's
style graphics, robots, monsters, mad scientists, undersea action and,
of course, tikis! In the end, it had to be tikis. :)
The band was very happy with the final piece. Win!

You're hired!

Brilliant! That would be a dream gig for me! I love Los Straitjackets!

The poster looks fantastic Anthony!

I also like the drawings, cool!

Aloha, everyone!
I am back again after yet another lengthy hiatus. Life keeps on a-gettin' in the way.
Here is my latest painting. It's called "The Haunted Tiki Affair". It's acrylic on 24"x48" canvas.
It was created for the big Artprize competition here in Grand Rapids, MI. Tiki art will never
win the big prize ($250,000) but I keep doin' 'em anyway! Someone's gotta keep the Tiki alive
here in Michigan. :)

And here are some of the composition sketches I did before settling on the finished piece.

Until next time...Keep on keepin' it tropical! :)

Beautiful work Anthony!

I don't know how I previously missed this thread with such incredible works of art. I just cannot fathom how this site has so much talent bursting at the seams! Beautiful works, Artosaurus!

Yeah, some really great stuff in this thread...so cool!

Many thanks! :)

Here are a couple of pieces I did for my blog SKETCHVILLE!.
Both are digitally colored pencil drawings mixed with photographic
backgrounds (one used as a scenic backdrop, the other as a textural element).

New painting created for a one night only, skull themed show
at the Greenlion Gallery (150 E Fulton, Grand Rapids, MI 49503)
Acrylic on 9"x12" canvas.

Anthony, I like your style - even the long haired gal who's shaped like a lobster cracker :D When do you find out if "The Haunted Tiki Affair" won the quarter mil? It gets my vote!

Thanks, MadDog! :)
Needless to say, I didn't win. :P

Boy, it's been a while since I last posted.

NEWS!
I have a Tiki themed one man show opening tonight at The Sparrows Coffee, Tea and Newsstand (1035 Wealthy SE Grand Rapids, MI, 49506) from 6-8pm. The show runs though the beginning of April.
Yay! Tiki art in Grand Rapids! And so it begins...
Read more about the show here: Welcome to Sparrowdise!

There are 16 pieces in all. 11 brand, spankin' new ones and 4 previously exhibited pieces.
It was a rush job since I had to fill a slot that was unexpectedly vacated. I painted all 11 in the past three weeks.

Here are some of the pieces that will be on display:

Flower Tiki
7.5"x12" Acrylic on wood slice

Tiki
9.5"x12.5" basswood relief carving
This is the finished version of the carving I posted a looong while back.

Tiki Garden
16"x20" Acrylic on canvas

I'll post more soon.
Thanks for looking! :)

Fantastic work artosaurus, really liking the taboo art for the Wildsville Man October gig.

Beautiful New Batch Anthony!
Tiki Garden is my favorite!
Such a great retro vibe to these!
Keep em Coming!
:)

Thanks, everyone! :)

Unfortunately, there will be no prints in the immediate future. I can't
afford to have any printed at the present time. If anything changes I
will let you know.

On the good news front, here is the poster for my upcoming solo show
at the InsideOut Gallery in Traverse City, MI:

It's going to be a big opening with over 60 pieces of art, drinks, tiki girls, music and more!
If you're in the Michigan area, stop in and say hello (and maybe even buy some art). :)
