Sweet

So are we all running to the Bowana booth? You bet. Wendy

B

Thanks, hang10 and Wendy!

Here are 2 of the colors I will have for the 3'S The Charm mugs:

Green!

Pink!

I'm only making 3 of each of these colors. 2/3 Green, and 2/3 Pink are already pre-sold.
They are $150 each. Come see them (and me!) at TikiOasis!

Thanks for looking,

Bowie

Looking forward to catching up with the B'wana man, it's been too long!

My Bowana shelf has been in need of a new addition for far too long my friend--one of those pink mugs will be just the thing to spruce it up!

Cant wait to see ya!

B

If I had the time back a few months ago, these are what I would have liked to have brought to GROG's Bowlarama event!

Moai bowl with rock texture. (I used a rock the make said texture, go figure)

Hawaiian themed bowl with Kona style figures.

Hawaiian style mini bowl with Ali'i figures. Won't hold as much drink, but it's cute as hell!
Maybe a personal drink holder for one?

Now off to the kiln with these little rapscallions.
Thanks for looking :)

Bowie

The top two are just what Dan ordered when we saw you last. Sold! Thank you, wendy

PS they look great

B'WANA!!! So good to hear from you. The bowls look great ~ say hello to Rick for me :)

HT

LOOKIN GOOD! Hot damn. Great lookin bowls.

S

Great stuff there as usual David. Looking forward to seeing them glazed.

Awesome bowls. Better late than never.

Spectacular!

Bo-W
Way kool........

Jon

Those bowls are outstanding! My favorite is the 3rd one, but all three are amazing.

Dale

Dave, your work is Amazing! see you at Oasis.

B

Wendy- Thanks! Glad you and Dan like them. There's going to be more in the works!

MadDogMike- MIKE! Thanks for stopping by. I'll be seeing Babalu again soon!

Haletiki- Hello, and thanks!

swizzle- Thanks Robbie. I had these going at the same time as yours were hence my curiosity about whether you used a slip cast mold for the bowl or had built it over a form. I've been using forms, but would like to start using slip casting instead. I think a cleaner look can be achieved.

hang10tiki- Thanks, Jon! See ya again at Oasis this year I hope.

GROG- Thanks! Too bad GROG have Bowlarama when Bowana have no time to participate! Oh well, Bowana make bowls now.

Big Kahuna- Thank you!

littleglles- Thanks for stopping by! Pssst, my favorite is the 3rd one too!

kustomtiki- Thanks, John! Looking forward to seeing you and the fam too!

Bowls survived the kiln and glaze work done ready for the second round! Gosh, I hate glazing!

Another Moai bowl on the turntable. I should have my own Bowlerama, eh,wot GROG?

I have two new pendant designs going as well.

A Moai and a Lono. These are about two inches in length. The pics are about double actual size. Hmm. I better put some more detail on them!

Thanks for visiting!

Bowie

Teeny Eeeny Bowie!
but still masterful..
You're amazing on a consistent basis
carry On,brother!

H

I agree with LLT, but not the teeny part. :)

HT

Can't wait to see the bowls!

Bowls like these are the reason I've now developed, and will continue to expand, a bowl collection.

Thanks, Kenny, Hale, and extra special BIG thanks to Hilda :)

The bowls came out pretty nice. It's always a bit of a surprise when glazing.

The moai bowl I wanted to look like stone. Check!

The Hawaiian Bowl I wanted to look like wood. Check!

The Ali'i Bowl I wanted to look green. Check!

On to new business!

This is a custom casting of my Minimalist Moai mug.
Hmm, not so minimalist now.

From the Freak Show: Custom conjoined twin Minimalist Moai(s).

Thanks for your visit!

Bowie

Dave, the conjoined twins need a septum so you can have 2 different drinks at once
Great job!

S

I knew you were going to say you were hoping it would be green as i was scrolling down, i just knew it.
Awesome work as usual David, i love the conjoined Moai.

The bowls came out great. Good job Bowie. GROG like.

I have to say my favorite is still the little bowl with the Ali'i figures, but the wood effect on the second bowl in incredible and the stone texture and glazing on the Moai bowl turned out amazing. Heck, all three are awesome.

Love the conjoined Moai and I have to agree with Mike, a septum so you could have two drinks at once would be really cool. :)

Always a joy to look at your creations.

T

Great meeting you today at Don's, love the Minimalist Moai I picked up, as well as all of your other pieces.

B

MadDogMike - Thanks, and what a great idea to add a septum! Ah nuts! Now I have to make another one!

swizzle - Thanks, Ha ha haa! Yep, green, green, green!

GROG - Thanks for visiting. When GROG going to have "Son Of Bowlarama"?

littlegiles - Yep, the greenie is still my fav too! Thanks!

TikiAno - Great meeting you at the ITMP! Glad you like your new Moai! I looked into Get Centered. The hours are kinda bad except on Thursdays. Maybe that's when I'll come in and check out the glazes and stuff!

Bowie

You've got Dan wishing that Oasis was tomorrow. Great work, I really like the two faced minimalist. Wendy

T

Dave, I think they have some other evening hours that aren't on their website. If you can give them a call to check. I told Elly, one of the owners, that "another tiki guy" might be calling and want to come in in the evening.

Awesome......

HT

wolf whistle

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEE those are some good looking bowls!

Also, as the owner of a cabinet of curiosities, and sideshow performer, that conjoined moai sings to me, man. It's brilliant. I love it. So cool. Please be sure to post photos of the glaze on that one when you're done.

B

Wendy - Thanks! Oasis coming sooon!!
TikiAno - I haven't had a chance to get to Get Centered yet, but now that I'm running a bit low on glazes I think I may be darkening their doorway soon!
hang10tiki - Thanks for stopping by!
Hale Tiki - Sideshow performer, eh? How cool is that! I hope you don't bite the heads off chickens or something like that!

More from Bowana's Freakshow:

The conjoined twins came out nicely!

While I was at it, I made one more set of twins just a bit different:

This one sports a septum in the middle to make possible having two
separate but equal drinks at a time to share with a friend!
Septum copyright MadDogMike patent pending all rights reserved!

I guess I didn't have to write my name twice, but it's more fun that way,
it's more fun that way :)

There were probably Moai Nerds too, right?

Only this one's hip with his ear spools.

Face Off!

Guess I spoke too soon! This one had an accident in the kiln.
Kilnmeister Babalu and I discussed what could have happened
at length, but could not really come up with an answer for why
it could have broke like this in the glaze fire. This kind of break would
normally have happened in the bisque. Some kind of shrinkage maybe.

However, we both agreed that there is no crying in Tiki, so I had
to suck it up and move on.

If anyone has got an answer to what could have caused it, I would
sure like to hear it!

Thanks for stopping by!

Bowie

It must of been a Poltergoose!

H

fabulous pieces as usual. Love the guy with the glasses and the bow tie, very clever.

Or Babalu bashed it against the side of the kiln taking it out.

Dave, looking great. Love the new conjoined Moais, the Nerd Moai is perfect.

FYI Get Centered no longer has Saturday hours, I'd just call to check their PM hours- think there's someone there later on Thursdays? Look forward to catching up either there or at Oasis.

Wow- great stuff

Jon

Hi Jon! The question should have been, "What's in Gecko's kiln?" I've been working with Gecko'z SSA on some limited edition mugs.

Like this one! It's called Ali'i.

And this one, Ku!

Comes in brown and matte black.

We've also been working on some special editions.

Like these pink Lonos and Born of Fire mugs.

And custom one offs.

Like this Lono with a blue crackle glaze.

And before I forget my manners-ATP, hiltiki, GROG (who I'm glad is out of the hospital and looking good like a caveman should), TikiAno, Bruddah Bear, LLT, Baddtiki and MDM, thanks for your visit. I'm still around, just been too busy to post anything lately (lamest excuse ever).
Thanks jon10tiki for resurrecting my thread!

Bowie

Wow
Glad I asked
I'll be at Gecko's soon!
I'll have to keep an eye open for your stuff

Jon

Worst sound ever, slurp of an empty tiki mug through my straw!!!

[ Edited by: hang10tiki 2013-11-09 20:32 ]

I just got one of those nice Ku mugs with the brown glaze. Its a beast, a real beauty. That cracked blue glaze is real cool too. Gecko is doing some great work in his kiln. Great team, Mahalo to both of you for keeping it interesting.

B

Thanks, hang10 and Kilaueakyd!

Here's some shots I took while carving the Hawaii Ku mug original. It's made from AAC (autoclaved aerated concrete) or Hebel, as our Aussie friends call it. I wanted to make it from a solid material so I could ship it to Hawaii without it breaking. I ended up skinning it with Bondo and texturing it. As cool as the texture on the AAC was, it never would have survived the mold. Too many little baby undercuts!

Bowie

This mug is my favorite one I have. The picture doesn't do it justice, looks a thousand times better in person. Thanks Bowana and Gecko! You guys make an awesome team!!!
