I'm really excited to be part of this! I was thinking of just posting my new pendants, but figured I'd go ahead and put some of my older pendants as well in case people haven't seen them. I do cast them all myself with tinted resin, clean them up and paint them all.

"Lucky" in two different colors:

"Lono"

"Eddie"

More to come!

Nice stuff Mieko. GROG want to see more!

For those of you who are tired of listening to surf bands Friday night and all day Saturday, you can take a break and come to North Hollywood to the Tonga Hut for some nice drinks, friendly people, and awesome art by Mieko, Thor, Skinny Dog, Jeremy Melton, Tiki Tony, Ocea Otica, and Tiki Magazine relasing their new issue with cover art by Thor. That's happening Saturday night from 8pm to midnght.

Then, apparently there's even MORE surf music on Sunday if you haven't had your fill yet. Bigtikidude has a couple of threads up for more information on the surf music for all you Tiki Fanatics who are also die-hard surf band junkies.

If you're sick of surf music by Sunday, then you might want to head over to Safari Sams on Sunset in Hollywood from noon to 5:30 to hear The Smith Ranch Boys, Deke Dickerson, Karling Abbeygate, and The Dime Box Band playing.

Firing-up a flare from here on the island to say we're way-stoked with Aloha and Best Wishes...

Cheers out,
SOK & the demented menehunes

Here's a piece that I collaborated with Doug Horne on. He did the design, I did the carving and the casting.

And here's a design from a mug

and when does a Mieko Mug happen?

I want one! :)

It's also Little Lost Tiki's birthday on August 2nd. He won't be at the Tonga Hut; he'll be spending some time at home with his lovely wife celebrating his birthday with her. But, that doesn't mean we can't celebrate without him--GROG may even bring a cake.

Sounds good.

Sounds even better!

Best news yet,
I wont be there.
so you can all talk shit about me behind my back.(some more)

and Grog,
in case you didn't know Surfing comes from Hawaii
hence the connection of surf music, and tikis.

Geez when surf bands have tikis in there flyers or cd covers.
all the surf fans dont jump all over them for it.
why the intense hate of surf pal?

somebody needs to take a chill pill and put on his favorite ABBA record,
and mellow out.

by the way if anybody wants to get the new tiki magazine at noon instead of waiting till 8 pm at the Tonga hut art show.
swing on by the surf Guitar 101 Conventions:
http://www.surfguitar101.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=387&mode=flat&order=0&thold=-1

Jon Paul, Photo editor and Photographer, and Bass player of the Boardwalkers(surf band)
will be there selling the tiki mag.
and also Tikiyaki cds, mugs prints etc...

its like a mini tiki event on one table, and you dont have to drive up to
nasty North Hollywood.

who loves ya groggy.

Actually Jeff(bigtikidude) surfing comes from Peru
but I know what you trying to say, Did you know that Pineapples come from South America too. Weird.

How about we keep this thread about an art show with some great artists, and also i am lumped in there (for some reason). We can leave the surfers versus tiki collectors war outside that night. I like both things. I also like bleu cheese. Hope to see many of you there that night, though I know if I was at the show I would be at Bosko's in a heartbeat, taking the long drive while listening to the Lively Ones and the Bomboras, while reading an issue of Tiki Magazine, while thinking of Tahiti, and Navy Grog.

Bull-O-Nee.

Catching waves on a small reed boat ain't surfing, it's called boat beaching and you do it every time you bring a small boat in.

Hawaiians invented surfing.

GROG look on the internet and found some claims surfing was first seen in 1767 in Tahiti before Captain Cook made it to Hawaii. Other sites claimed it started in Hawaii. And this one claims surfing started in Peru before Hawaii had a population.
