Tiki Mug Book Signing at La Luz de Jesus Gallery - 7th March

Pages: 1 2 3 133 replies

opened the kiln, and was pleasantly surprised. With no testing, the 4 color mix for the glaze came out spot on for what i was shooting for. So we will indeed be walking around with these. They are pretty large, most likely will hold at least two mai tais.
Though they will be holding mai tais saturday night, the image these are based on traditionally holds something else.
Alright gotta get some lunch, enough teasers, see you saturday night!

O

has anyone heard form Jonpaul about whether or not he is going to make it on Saturday, I know he lives a few hours away (haha), but hopefully he can make it.

M

The books are in and Dibroc's dropping off the Trader Vic's mai-tai mix & rum
tomorrrow to the tune of 60 gallons! The Sparklett's Mai-Tai machine will be seeing some action indeed!

Hey Cass(sp?)
Jonpaul said he would be at all of the events that night.
tiki ti, book event, and Ghastly Ones,
but sadly he wont go with me to Pioneer chicken.
guess he doesn't like fried Rat.
wtf?

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Wow! Sounds like this event is gonna be so much FUN!!! The book looks freakin' AWESOME!

So who's gonna be at Tiki Ti beforehand, and when?

BigTikiDude? Hiphipahula?

HELLS YEAH!

G

If I can get in, I will be there.

I can't wait to scour their bookstore area again!

oh ya! and see the mug people!

Living in Southern California is the way to go. We are missing so much up here.

Hey Jay, Dan has been having fun teasing me because he got credit for taking the photos in the book. I took the photos, he was the gofer who brought each art object from the collection to the velvet covered table for me to photograph.

Every day I love the book more. You did a wonderful write up to go with the photos, thank you for all the hard work. Wendy

T

Can't wait... note to self: bring LOTS of cash!

TS

I'm in.

Tiki party tonight!
Tiki party tonight!
Tiki party tonight!
Tiki party tonight!

We're gonna have a tiki party tonight!

Alright!

We're gonna have a tiki party alright!

Tonight!

We've got nothing better to do
Than see a tiki and have a couple of mai tais

All our friends are gonna hang out here tonight

Alright!

We're gonna pass out on the moai alright

Tonight!

We've got nothing better to do
Than see a tiki and have a couple of mai tais

Don't talk about anything else
We don't wanna know!
We're dedicated
To our favorite mugs!

We sit glued to the home bar all night
And every night!
Why go into the outside world at all?
It's such a fright!

We've got nothing better to do
Than see a tiki and have a couple of mai tais

Sports bars show what it's really like out there
It's a scare!

You can go out if you want
We wouldn't dare!

We've got nothing better to do
Than see a tiki and have a couple of mai tais

Don't talk about anything else
We don't wanna know!
We're dedicated
To our favorite mugs!

I wouldn't be without my tiki mug for a day
Or even a minute!

Don't even bother to use my liver anymore
There's nothing left to it!

We've got nothing better to do
Than see a tiki and have a couple of mai tais

Wait a minute! My tiki mug is cracked!
It's broken!
What are we gonna do tonight? This isn't fair!
We're hurtin'

We've got nothing left to do
With no tiki and just a bottle of bacardi!

What are we gonna use to drink?
I don't know!
We're gonna miss our favorite garnishes!

No Munktiki Super Tiki Deluxe!
No Steve Crane Bird Bowl!
No Bosko Suffering Kapu Tiki!
No Frankoma War God!
No Tiki Tony Hand Painted Fatutu!
No Aku Aku Rum Barrel!
No Tiki Diablo Ku Key!
No Tiki Bob!
No Tiki Kaimuki Palembei!
No Mai Kai Abelam!

NO T-I-K-I PARTY TO-NIGHT!

oh well, its tomorrow night!

Black Flag and Tiki - two things that should never be apart!

slightly more appropriate would be if Black Velvet Flag sang it

We were at The La Luz de Jesus Gallery to drop off stuff for the show and I noticed that they have a few of the older retired/sold out Tiki Farm pieces. Lil Squirt Shots by Squid Burnin' Love by Von Franko, The Pizz stacker set, just to name a few. All are at release prices.

We also got a sneak peek of the book. Congrats to Jay, Holden and everyone else who were involved. The book looks great.

OceaOtica! That is my new favorite version of TV Party Tonight! Wow, awesome!
I'll be going, too, carpoolin with TikiGeeki. Anyone want to get picked up on the way from the OC? You'll all be happy to hear I'm drivin, so I'm not drinkin (much). LOL! No zombies for me! See you all there. Tiki Ti, La Luz, Bordello. It's gonna be a swell night! Don't forget to bring sharpies for signing the book.

I was just in there today to see if the books where already available to ensure I get a couple copies before the mad dash on Saturday. The answer is no and won't be until mid day on Saturday.

They had a end cap set with some cheap mass produce tiki junk. Also there were people working on setting up the gallery which I'm uncertain if it was just for their usual art or for the book signing.

the art show tonight has little to nothing to do with the book signing. This is an annual 'group' show of 'La Luz' artist. I got in it because of my 12 year relationship with the gallery. Heather because she is Hot! anyway see you tonight or tomorrow!!

Cass those lyrics are the shit man,
now you need to start that Black Velvet Flag band,
Can I play bass?

Jeff(bigtikidude)

black velvet flag sounds funny!!!

Best...black....flag....cover...band....ever.... until you guys do black velvet flag, anyway;)

innners for tomorrow - only don't leave too early! I work 'till 5 and traffic is always a bee-atch gettin up to hollyweird on saturday!!!

Oooh Al, i think you are hot too, not to fret (insert heart shaped balloons here). I am sure it was Heather's extreme talent that got her in the show, but i am sure she appreciates your appreciation of her beauty. I can assume we all can take your comments about the La Luz Everything but the Kitchen Sink group show here as a rousing support of the Tiki Mugs book release party and that you have checked the "i am attending" box. See you tomorrow.

Polynesiac and Jeff, i think the band Black Velvet Flag beat us by about 10 or so years to having a band called Black Velvet Flag. If you haven't heard them their lounge cover of a Suicidal Tendencies song is incredible. Jeff, would still take you up on your offer to play bass (Poly, any instruments you can play?) and i will murder your ears with my amateur attempts to play my cornet. Please tell Jonpaul to pack extra water and blankets for his painfully long trek to the Hollywood area.
Kiki, glad you enjoyed the ditty, maybe we can have a group sing along at the show.

I've got a hockey game at staples center tomorrow afternoon, I may be able to stop in at the tiki ti and I think I can swing the book signing too!

Kiki von Tiki, you're a genius!!! I didn't even consider what an excellent opportunity this will be to get all the mug makers that will be there to sign the book! Dang! That'll make it an instant collectible! AWESOME!!! I'm even MORE there!

  1. Sleep in gutter

Ahh, just like old times... memories of gin swilled nights.
Sign yearbooks, get gassed up, go hear a band, pass out in the gutter. Good times.

Thank you! The book is great and everyone are great peoples. I think I need some heart burn meds from the mai tai's.

WooHooo! What a fun night. Congratulations to Holden & Jay. The book is AWESOME! Mahalo to Billy Shire and everyone at La Luz de Jesus for hosting such a great event.

Had such a blast last night... great to meet everyone and see old friends! I'm never going to use another glass in my life... Tiki Mugs all the way!

A most excellent time and a FANTASTIC BOOK! It really was like a "yearbook signing" party! I stayed up waaaay too late trying to read the thing! See you all soon again.

K

I stopped by for a bit last night. I had a blast!!! 5 gallon Mai Tai's ahoy!!!!!!!

HOORAY for Jay!
and Holden!
and Billy!
and all the others who helped make this event and book
a total BASH!
Plus, the bookstore at laLuz is my dream library!
tried to hit the Ghastly Ones afterwards
but there was a huge stupid line
and we couldn't get in with our contacts or dashing madcap looks
so we hit the TikiTi and chatted it up with all the crew there!
Incredible place, full of loads of cool stuff!
including a coconut downs syndrome hula girl!
and if that weren't enough...Miles Thompson paintings ALL OVER the walls!
Great night!
I even met Munktiki!
wowz...
Thanks everyone!
