Yay!!!

This Tiki needs to take a leak! Did Doug Horne do this?

This is an excellent example of "write what you know." We can really feel this chair because the writer knows the chair so well...Where it has been, what it can do, its ability to avoid cats and be rabbit adjacent. This is poetry in prose form. Very basic chair? Hardly. This is a chair of beauty.

Amazing carving that has age to it, carved on a single piece of what appears to be oak(...could be wrong about that?), but this Tiki is over-the-top, excellent, painted vintage item that is sure to impress!

Yes, you could be wrong about it being oak. And you could be wrong about it being "over-the-top,""excellent," and it being an "item that is sure to impress." And you're definitely wrong about the $175 price, it's worth much much more than that.

Hakalugi, could you please move that last post to Marketplace where it belongs? :D

Since Craigslists ads can expire or get deleted anyone who wants to add wonders to this thread that will be here to amaze and amuse for generations to come should do a little cut-&-pasting and screen capturing.

Here's the info from Mr. DAVID's post. I grabbed the pics and descriptions because once a Major East Coast Museum finds out these rare and unique items are being sold at such an incredible bargain they will be off the market and the ad will get deleted.

No doubt you suspect what I suspect...

This is Hanford in retirement!

Though he appears to be somewhat disguised it was other elements in the picture that convinced me...

This tiki is wearing what has to be Hanford's much talked about Horns of Endless Mystery and the boots that Hanford famously wore to every donut shop in the greater L.A. area while researching his game Rocknor's Donut Factory.

This tiki very closely resembles the tiki Hanford saw in the dream which led to the creation of Tiki Central. Hanford described the tiki in his autobiography...

*"It was unmistakably a tiki, yet at the same time it also looked much like a Muppet, but I tell you truly it was no sort of Muppet as I had ever lain eyes upon! It was not one color as a frog, pig, or whatever Grover is, nor was it the standard mix of colors one sees in the humanoid Muppets such as Ernie, Beaker, or most of the members of Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem. No, this tiki Muppet creature thing appeared to be comprised of every known color and that color radiated from what could only be described as a third eye which was smaller that its two eyes and situated just above its hideously human-like nose..."

Ben, I hope you're saving pictures of these tiki bars in your "idea file", in case you ever become creatively blocked, and need some inspiration.

Seems like a baragain...

I just ran into this item at a thrift store in Santa Barbara. It was $3.99. I laughed like crazy. It's even uglier in person.

Hi I am selling my authentic Hawaiian mask, hand carved by a true expert on the islands. Call 949-

Wont last at this price I paid $275 on the islands..

Authentic Tiki Masks are carved from hardwoods by expert craftsmen and then finished off with oil, wax or polish. There are also some Tiki Masks that feature color, but the most common design is the traditional stained hard wood sculpture. Because of the materials used and process that the Tiki Masks undergo during their creation, they can last a lifetime.

Hawaiian and Polynesian Tiki Masks History

Tiki Masks are carved wooden masks that represent deities or gods from the Hawaiian and Polynesian Culture. They are used as home decor and they also serve various purposes such as warding off evil spirits and increasing the owners fertility! They hold such high significance in the Polynesian culture that they, along with other Tiki sculptures, have become defining symbols of the Tiki culture.

Many of the Tiki Masks are designed based on the four main gods. Kane is the god of sunlight, and natural life; Ku is the god of war; Lono is the god of peace, winds, rain, sports and fertility; Kanaloa is the god of the ocean. Each Tiki God holds a different meaning.

At the Ho'olaule'a in Gardena this year there were several booths selling that type of mask. Kind of odd to see those types of masks being sold by genuine Polynesian people as 'tiki' masks. There aren't enough haole's at those events to fool into buying them.
