Uh, I'd better start making a list....
This was supposed to be easy, it's looking sort of complicated now.

B

I'm cutting up a couple o' fresh pineapples for those who are not into the deep fried Fair food!

See y'all tommorrow!

Bowie

I don't see any reason why we can't deep fry pineapple? :D

Don't forget to bring your chairs!

H

Since everyone is into fun foods I'm bringing chocolate covered macadamia nuts fresh from Hawaii and some Hawaiian sweets. Hmmm. I wonder if you can deep fry them?

Have fun tomorrow everyone.

Wish I had a log in progress or something but I havent done traditional carving in a while.

Go arteests...

Hi Five San Diego.

I'm ready!

See you all soon
Buzzy Out!

H

On my way to the Amtrak Station, looking forward to seeing you all.

Buzzy and Christina thank you so much for hosting this Chop and the one next month. Great time visiting with everyone even though my Donga Punch Sorbet was an epic failure  We even got some art done. I saw some cameras around, hopefully there will be some pics soon.

That was a great day under the raining flower shade tree! Thanks to all who showed up, worked, and brought goodies.

Here are some photos:

Maddog, who lives the farthest away, showed up first:

Bowana was second and immediately got down to robot autocarving:

Cammo set a new personal record today for most time spent in one place on a saturday:

Babalu back in action with the bay in the background:

All the while, I was frying up an assortment of delicacies:

Yesterday was Ringo's birthday, so we all pretended this gathering was another party in his honor. Here he wants a piece of my cream cheese jalapeno popper:

More food and fun under the tree. Next round was fresh cut Bowana pinapple and Cammo's Pinapple Spam Musubi:

A little work getting done when Hiltiki arrived:

Cammo giving a symposium on Tiki Oasis symposiums:

Curly seasoned fries and fresh tortilla chips:

Sweet potato Crinkle cut fries and I start carving a copy of Bowana's Moai:

Tool of choice: hookknife

Five minutes later I was done carving it, had it sanded, stained, and was wearing it as a pendant:

Bowana spends year four on his version...:

while I slap out a second one for Hiltiki:

Two versus one not done:

Mr Noname clocks in for the afternoon shift:

Hiltiki's first woodburning piece:

From the mind and hand of Babalu:

My favorite food was Maddog's Deep fried cheesecake burritos:

Fried food heaven!

Group shot( minus Rob and Kilani,) with the Dogbutt Trio:

The End:

It was real cool getting together again. I missed all you guys. See you next month!
Buzzy Out!

Great pics Buzz. The problem with pictures is that they never show me near as handsome as I am in my mind :D

I was just reading about smoked bananas this week and thinking about how good Smoked Banana Upside-down Cake would be  (I'm serious though!)

B

Thanks for hosting, Buzzy and Christina! It's been too long since a chop happened. Nice getting together again, can't wait for the next!

I'm going to have to speed things up if I'm going to keep up with Buzzman. Hmm..maybe I should start working smaller...yeah, that's a good idea.
Think I'm going to do that too.

Bowie

Eric in a tool belt/Man skirt.....classic!

C

Thanks Buzz for having a great Chop under the Gum-Gum tree. I'm still picking tiny seed pod flower crap out of my scalp.

I didn't know if Buzzy was really serious about the deep fryer, but he was and it was TASTEE. And that got me thinking - CLAMS. Deep fried CLAM STRIPS! MY FAVORITE!!!!!! NEXT TIME!!!!!

Other news not covered in the BuzzUpDate above:

I tried playing a Martini Kings CD but TikiCousinChris ejected it from the player, snapped it in half, and put on a Jimi Hendrix CD.

The dogs had more fun than all of us, which is a LOT of fun. If you want to have fun, just do whatever the dog is doing.

Buzzy didn't carve anything for like 4 hours then whipped out two (burned and finished, and strung on a string) pendants in 57 seconds.

I'm going on a Spam Musubi diet. 1 S.M. each day. That's it, that's all you need anyway.

MadDogMike basically carved a bottle. It was cool.

And we gossiped about everyone EXCEPT YOU. Yes, YOU, the one that's reading this! We didn't talk about YOU AT ALL!!!!

H

Buzzy and Christina thank you so much for such a fun gathering. I know I spend close to 8 hours on the train going back and forth, but that was a lot of fun by itself too. Loved all the fried food, next time we do fried food I am bringing burritos and chile rellenos to fry. See you soon.

Clam strips.

Tellin' ya, clam strips.

B

Wow...had a GREAT time! I was very cool hanging with all of you again.

Thanks for hosting this Chop Master Buzz. It was a huge success. I'm looking forward to the Chop at the House of Buzz part 2.

I agree with Cam...FRIED CLAMS are the ticket.

Babs -

Can't come to your October jam either so have another one and I will be there :)

I will just hang out with Christina and eat. That's worth an 8 hour drive for!

How do we get fresh clams?

Get some pitchforks and head down to the right beach, and you can dig up pismo clams. I think the weather is still a little too hot, best clamming time starts in December at low tide. Maybe we can combine a clam digging day with a beach chop. :)

Sorry I couldn't make it (or the next one) hope to see you all soon!

Cammo posted on Mon, Oct 1, 2012 3:10 PM

I don't know about the contamination factor of local Pismo Clams. You can actually get them by the kilo at Coronado Beach, but how clean are they???!?!?!

And can we have a count of how many people are NOT coming to Buzzy's on the 20th? Then we know how many not to make fried clams for.

Hey Buzz - maybe you can make pendants for the ones that do not attend, and Babs can make a mug for the non-attendees. (I wish college had been this easy! I actually attended!)

Super photos I wish I could have been there to listen and watch. Wendy

So let's start the NOT COMING list, just so we know exactly who isn't coming on October 20th:

Mieko
SandraDee
Hale Tiki (lives in Pittsburgh)
Tiki Bong
Billy the Crud (whereabouts unknown)

So can GROG and JOHN-O not make it either? I don't know if they aren't coming too.

Good start, but I was hoping there would be a lot more people not showing up.

I'm making little hand carved Moai pendants like this for anyone who doesn't show up at the event this month:

To reserve your limnited edition pendant: Check in here on this thread if you're not coming so you can be put on the official Event No Show Pendant list. You can pick up your pendant at the event, although you will then be no longer eligible for a no show pendant.

For those of you who are not no shows, I have a bigger table this time!

No Shows, No Shirts, No Dice!
Buzzy Out!

S

I really think an 8 hour away no show is more than however far MadDog is NOT traveling to not show up...at least i beat out him!

Hey! It's only 2 hours BUT I SHOWED UP!!! Besides HilTiki beat me, she travelled 4 hours each direction to be there

I want to join in ...But so far away...not enough time.So i can be added to the not coming list, but at least i'm in good company.

See you all soon, NOT!

Cammo you are killing me :)
Such a great pendant I will never own. Add it to the list!

This is a real event all right, it's the most legal fun you can have on a Saturday in my humble opinion.

Here's the Spam Musubi I made for the last one, I use Hawaiian red salt and fine bits of pineapple in the rice mixture, fry the Spam in sesame oil then flash-fry it with Kikkoman Pineapple BBQ Baste:

I ran out of Saran Wrap and had to use wax paper for the last ones, which is REALLY OLD SCHOOL!!!!

Yes, they were pretty yummy. They're like Hawaiian Burritos.

B
Babalu posted on Fri, Oct 5, 2012 7:45 PM

Cam, the Hawaiian burritos were fabulous!

ummm, I wasn't sure where to post this...

Please welcome to the world my 3rd grandson :) Adrien Louis Antonucci

I'm heading off to Denver to visit with this little man, but I am coming to the Chop!

Cammo I got one of the Musubis wrapped in waxed paper, I wondered what the difference was

Congrats Babalu....he is a handsome guy.

Nice pendants....I need to increase my collection!!!

C
Cammo posted on Sun, Oct 7, 2012 9:58 AM

Buzzy has to keep this event small and friendly, so there will have to be a limited amount of people we can put on the NOT COMING list.

Here's what we've decided:

Just PM Cammo if you are not coming. State a clear and concise reason for not coming in the PM, no giant 3 page stories of your life, just a short description will be perfect.

We'll add your name to the NOT COMING list.

The list is currently at 20 people, we'll cap the list at 35.

(Sorry to those who don't make the list, we're trying to make this work for everyone! You try doing this, it's hard!)

I don't know yet if I'll be unable to attend, the Mrs. has veto power.

Those of you who didn't attend BuzzChopOne won't remember the Donga Punch Sorbet Debacle of 2012 where the grapefruit juice and cinnamon syrup mixture would not freeze. I thought maybe I had got over zealous and put in too much rum. But I took that same mixture home and tried it in the freezer again and this time it froze. I think the ice cream freezer wasn't cold enough after the trip up in spite of being in an ice chest full of ice. Maybe I'll try again for BuzzChopTwo by packing it in dry ice?

Garnished with grapefruit slices, it was delicious! :D

I'm going to pretend that I made it by looking at all my Buzzy pinups.
MadDogMike put some green dye in the bottom concoction and serve it at Christmas. Wendy
