Tikiskip's / Kahiki lamp,Tiki bar lights, fishing float light

You could mount it to a board in the back of the shelf.
Make it just like a cabinet.
With rope sides, and an open front.
Beachcomber lamp? Is that the one at the top of this page?

Yeah a backer board may work.

That is a cool lamp.
Not too hard to make though.
You just need to find the stuff.

Our ceilling is T1-11 wood siding very popular in the 50s
ranch style homes.
And works well with the whole wire thing.

Thanks Skip! I have ceilings like that (with fake black hollow "support beams" that are twice as wide as yours) I was thinking of running the wires along the grooves to one of the black "beams" (which are hollow) and run all the wires into there and out a hole down to a piece of split bamboo that runs along the wall to the outlet. But I'm worried if that will be too many wires abd cause heat to build up. Is there a way I can splice them all into a single circut with one outlet (or a few)?

As long as your total wattage of bulbs stays low, no reason not to run them all on one cord. I have a few vintage lamps that have multiple sockets and bulbs that are all on one cord. There is a max wattage I am sure. I don't do more than 7 watts in most of my tiki lamps, so I should be able to split a cord 14 ways if it normally handles a 100 watt bulb! :wink: And if I do my more normal 4 watt bulbs, I can hang 25 lamps off one cord!

Here are some pics.

You need to keep an arsenal of light bulbs.
Each one of these will give a different light.
You won't know the right one till you try it.
In the middle of those bulbs is a adapter that you
screw into a standard base to make it a candelabra base,
or a medium base. (C7s or C9s Christmas light bulb type)
I just got an order for some lights where fire was a concern,
As his house caught fire. From a tiki light.
Small Bulbs both in size and wattage is the answer.
Along with good distance from any flammables.

Hey skip,

I got this really cool cabinet light that attaches anywhere with NO cords. All 4 lights can rotate 360 dregrees which makes it perfect for lighting certain things in a Tiki bar.

My problem is they use these little led's for the light which looks different than the soft light we get from regular light bulbs. I'm thinking this can be fixed by placing colored gels over the led's. 2" round pieces of amber gels would probably work.

Any idea where I can get something like that. Lighting is EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!

That depends on how hot the bulbs get.
Led not so hot I guess.
Here in town go to Shell scenic studio.
They are in the book under theatrical supplies.
In other towns look up theatrical supplies as well I guess.
Or go to Rossco or Gam color on the web they make gels.
You can get glass gels for hot lights, They are high dollar though.
There are thousands of colors. At about $10.00 a sheet? 2'by 3'
Remember darker colors cut the lumen or light output way down.
Be sure to let all lights get some air.
Hot bulbs not only start fires but they burn out quickly.

Here are some lights I'm making.
It is a custom order.
I am almost half way done.
Can't wait to see these in place!

Nice last lamp too, as always.

The Moai is still in my backyard.
And still looking at the sky.

Here is a set of custom lights I made for
someone here in Columbus.
He wanted lights like the ones I made for the Tropical Bistro.
But he needed them shorter.

They go in tonight.
Will show shots of them installed.

You drill a 1/2 inch hole then insert the peg and wire.
You must notch the wire into the peg first.
Up top you mark then drill a hole so you can insert a
smaller peg to hold them up.

I see; the lamps are suspended directly from the matting. It's rigid enough to hold the lamps without bowing? The install and the room are great!

Awesome work on Blake's bar skip!!!! Did you do all the lighting behind the bar too? It really looks nice.

Here's my first, a float that I picked up at the HRHH this year.

I have to say, I'm absolutely floored. I never come into this section of tiki central, and now I'm kicking myself for not browsing here sooner! Absolutely incredible lamp making Skip! I read through the first and second pages, and it sucked me into reading the whole 16 page topic in one sitting! It must have broken my ADD, because I rarely read through everything in a topic post, unless I want to add a reply. Great job and thanks for sharing your talents!

Going to tiki up the cheese board one day.

Need to add one more thing.
I fire proof all lamps with the stuff below.
It is $50.00 bucks a gallon.
Beats finding a new home.
BUT you can't leave these lights on all night.
It's just not smart to do.
These things are made of very flamable material.
When I got a bunch of the Kahikis lights they were all chared inside.
Don't know how that place did not burn down.
Maybe it was this stuff.

The small one to the left is one of mine.
