damn seeks,

i'm gone for a long weekend and you carve that beaut? nice work! can't wait to see the thing standing, stained and planted.

bd

Beautiful work seeksurf! This is the first time I've seen it and it's killer stuff!

T

did I said that this pole is soooo coooool, I always liked the style of these totem poles, they aged really nice and the cuts are beautiful, again great job.

GAWD! That is beautifullllll. The froggy seems to be all snuggled right in. Pefect!

C

Looking great! a lot of spice into this guy

B

Are you sure you aren't part Tlinket Indian? That totem pole could have been done by a master, 100 years ago!
Awesome work!

L

Tlinket, Haida, or Quileute... I do not know which, but there is much that's for sure!

B

Oh Yeah,,,,,

"Pole update. Man this guy is drying fast and its getting harder to
carve in him.

" Quote

You Really need to HURRY and finish this guy before the wood gets too dry. While you are hurrying, don't forget to take Lots of photoz for us mere mortals down here. Incredible work.

B

man seeks that guy is awsoooome!!!!
would love to make one someday
maybe i'll talk you into comming
down next winter for a lesson
will you take my 1st born?

S

GMAN - Thank you sir. Never had frog always loved catching them.

big daddy - thank you well im not that fast seems like i have been carving
this sucker for long time.

sam- thanks for dropping in I just looked at your work last week very nice.

Tahitiki - thank you for the kind words.

surfin - thanks old friend. cant wait to raise this big guy this summer.

Clarita - Thanks for the pepper.

Benz - Im trying to work with the spirits in this log, but im
dealing with more than one this time!

laojia - yes i would say its a mix.

buzzard - thanks man. Like a said before no more 1st born's. :)

B

Wow! Very cool totem pole, seeks!
I love the Pac NW Coast style of carving. Haida is my preferred. Looks like you've got a lot of it in your mix.
Hurry up and finish so we can see! :)

B

Hi Seek,

Wonderful ! REally stunning work.
This has to be on the next page:

Bravo,

Benjamin.

Thanks Bowana and benella for the drop buy.

Tall Lono with 1 coat of the Basement Kahunas mix of tar mineral spirits and jap dryer. I think i suck at this finish work.

yup, that sux. You better send him to me so I can hide him from the rest of the world.

I was gonna say the same thing. He really sucks. I think I'm gonna
throw away my chisels and find another hobby. You too good!

And how about that totem pole, are you gonna put a stove-top hat on him?

T

Looks good from here! I've been wanting to play with that tar & mineral spirits recipe but haven't had the chance. I expect it to be a little darker, but looks great!

seeks, That, sir, is a thing to behold. Beautiful.

Seeks!

Way too hard on yourself!

You know this looks good though... you have to!

I think I'm going to fly on out to the NW so you can show me how to carve.

Sweet!

BT

Man, that Lono's headress is simple amazing. Nothing more to say.

4

Seeks, nice carve!
What's the story on that tar recipe - is it meant to weatherproof, or to give it a nice aged patina? Or both???

Nice job as always.

BD

wow seeks,

it's really terrible. if gman can't find a place to hide it i have an out of the way spot in my backyard overlooking everything that i can stash him in. he looks great and the tar stain will look great when you finish up with him. back in the 70's you could have put him in the water in galveston and the tar balls would have stained him beautifully. back then everyone carried a can of wd40 in their car to clean up for the ride home. great job seeks.

bd

S

GMAN - Thanks on the sux :)

conga - YES! stove top hat on the way.

TheBigT - I wish you would try it out we can compare notes.

drgoat - thanks on the hehold.

Lake - It looks good but i can do better. Im waiting at the
Tiki Bog for ya.

Badd - thanks tall lono made me earn that headdress.

4WD - I would say both. Basment turned me on to it in a older post.
This guy is going to be full time outside @ the NW Coast should be
interesting in time to see.

drasticwagon - Mahalo for dropping buy again.

big daddy - I might go for a second coat. Im still wearing some
tar as we speak.

L

Tall Lono turning good with this dark coat. I'm also interesting for the characteristic of your tar recipe...
And come on the high of the totem pole...soon finished? The suspense is maintained with these photos truncated...Well done!

J.

Seeksurf- Fantastic job on the BIG Lono, look'n forward to see'n what you'll do with
the guy seated up top.Cheers Watango

So awesome Seeks!! I like the finish, looks great. I see you went from kook to grom.

Awesome looking creation there! Such detail... simply perfect.

seeks,
Have or do you use an electric (handheld) planer on your work? i picked up on last week (Ryobi -$69.00) and it seems to work great on removing bark or shaping logs.
The drawknife works good on palm, but the planer is alot quicker on other stuff like salt cedar or cottonwood. Any pointers? Still beholding.
also interested in your tar mixture.

Wow! He looks good from here. Does it smell? I can't believe you gonna let him live outside.

SEEKS! You need a couple a longboards behind him leaning on the fence! Beautiful! The Totem looks classic! I am jealous of that fine carving wood you nor'westerners get...me want sum.

S

Basement Kahuna was kind enough to divulge this tar mix
2 parts mineral spirits, 1 part roofing tar and about 1/2 cup of japan dryer

http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=5629&forum=7&start=900

laojia - thanks J. how is the old man carving going?

tikifreak - thanks Im a old grom.

TikiMango - thank you much sir.

drogoat - I was just eyeballing a planer. No I have never used one, but I would
use it for really squaring the log. It probably wouldn't work for me on my
logs as a de-barker. I use a chain saw then a 5" sander to de-bark.

AlohaStation - He smells mostly of the thinner. I don't or haven't sold any
tiki as of yet? so i have to put them somewhere. I just hope someone don't
steal him? I will secure him as best as i can.

surfin - Dam you right! next pic of tall lone will have the boards.

The tall lono is awesome mate, and the totem is shaping up to be something truely special :D

S

hewey - Thanks always good hearning from down-under.

Rain man face work real challenge for NW howly boy.

Check out Seeks, Making the rest of us look bad.

Nice Work!!

It's "stunning" there chief! But yes, you are a haole boy.
:D :D

B

Hi Capt'n Seeky,

I think nothing can stop you. You're killing me and every little one who would know what a tiki is with your master works.
This character looks like he's alive ! I'm sure that 10 years later, when the wood will be older, with cracks and all, nobody would see the difference between your work and the work of the Ancients.
I don't know what your current job is but you got to stop it and be a full time sculptor NOW :)

Benjamin.

If Gman smilling, I always breath off when I see your pics... Benella is right when he wrote about the rain man: "This character looks like he's alive", and his quiet expression.... So cool!
