Craig

S

Lake Surfer - Thanks for the looks. I will give the tip a try I have
found i cant get sand paper in allot of tight spaces Thanks.

Tikifreak- Thanks, I have the link for the those pic's. I just cant type
what I'm trying to say in may head very well most of the time.

Im becoming pleased with Thin Man at first i was thinking dam I might have
to move to a diff log.

WoaaHH! The surf tiki mojo guy came out great! Nice and smooth on the face, and the headress looks great...great design choice. I think what you did for the board is perfect. And I can't wait to see what crazy headdress you put on the new guy. Tiki got a big ol' butt!
Whats the wood on the new guy?
ps..our waves were mackin' last weekend...46' off our coast. Of course I was sick, and didn't go out...but I did score some great photography

Aloha!

S

Wow, nice wave. Looks like it was going off. Great shot also.
How often do you get waves of that quality?

All my carvings have been out of Alder. I have some property south of Westport, WA
on the coast this is where i get all my wood at.

Westport is WA state's surf capital we have 3 breaks that always have something
all year long. If your ever in WA you have to come camp at The Tiki Bog and get
some surf in.

B

I think your "Thin Man" is an Awesome looking tiki. Most tikis are WAY to Heavy and fat, Needlessly! You can ALWAYS take more off and Still have a great carving, of course you get to the point where you can't take off much more which is where you are with this guy. Use your chisels to get in there and remove the chainsaw cuts. Sanding is too difficult and burning is too Uncontrolled and you lose more real estate. The trick is to not make the deep chainsaw cut in the beginning, unless you are just doing a chainsaw piece which this is not.
He really looks great!

B

Amazing Thin man. A masterpiece for next week ?

Benjamin aka Benella

S

Benz - your input is always welcome. That chain saw is fast and easy cutting, but I have a hell of a time with the first cuts tell i see some shape. I removed alittle from
the cuts I'm going slow at it. Thanks for dropping buy.

Ben - I appreciate the support. Keep those tools safe my friend.

T

hey man. that sure is ballsy, you go deep in the wood. I like that. very good try. benz is right, some tikis look a bit fat, but don´t bother, yours is starting to lift off.
uh, its late mi english is getting worse.
keep it going.
tok-tok

C

Oh the thin guy is looking very good!! He's thin but he has a firm butt :) !

B

Any update ?

But remember, surfing sometimes can be dangerous.

Can´t await your update. Just looked trough your pictures a minute ago and I really like the way you brought out the teeth of the surfboard-tiki. What kind of stain and finish did you use?
tok-tok

S

tok-tok - I love that shark shot in the wave. I stained with Red Mahogany minwax and
a clear poly of some sort. That was my 2nd time so i dont know much about it.

clarita - Im glad you are pleased with the butt.

benella - I will post soon for ya, not much different yet Im working on the face
and its taking me some time.

Thanks for droping buy ya-all

S

I almost totally messed the face up? maybe i did will see?
Having a blast carving this guy.

Things i don't like: Head Dress to nose or eyes sorta high I'm getting into the eye area.
Hands look like cow hoof's.

You're a bad dude! Killer chops! LOVE IT!

G$

B

Come on boy, you messed nothing up, this thin man is going a "masterpiecy" way.

Benjamin.

H

Yeah, you definitely screwed this one up!
But you're this far into it so go ahead and finish carving it,
staining it, then send it to me and I will be sure to properly
display... I mean destroy it, yeah, that's it, destroy it.

Aww, who am I kidding? That thing looks awesome!!

GMAN posted on Thu, Nov 15, 2007 11:28 AM

what'z up with the mustard? You drink that straight up?

-G$

Good stuff!

S

I made some deep cuts on the mouth today and Thin Man is looking like TIKI VADER!
I hope i can work that upper lip somehow. I wont show you the side view yet! Yikes

Thanks Gman, Heath and benella.

Mustard is the shit!

Dunno why, but the head dress reminds me of a ww2 german helmet. :)

I like the Catsup/Ketchup for scale. I didn't really get how big he was with the Mustard.
Laffo

Nice carving here Seeksurf. You are doing a great job on the legs, giving him a bit
of a "movement" look, like he's gonna step off the workbench and headbut you! Be
careful and keep posting progress pics. The face looks great too!

S

dreams - i see the German thing going on also. I think the head dress will hide that
look later, but that dam upper lip is gonna sick out like a son of bitch.

congatiki - im a total newbie any movement look was buy chance or luck.

Uncle Laffo - thanks for the laffo on the mustard and Kasup.

Thanks for dropping buy.

Naw.... go on wit your bad self.

Killer chops.

Newbie my ass.

You're a natural at this.

Carve more!

Surf more!

ST

Hi all.
No way, those helmet were round on top, and you could normally see the eyes beneath the helmet selvage. Okay, germans were blind at a time, but not in verbatim way.(I will not start discussing that :P.)

I´m thinking of a judge dredd helmet, (you know, sly stallone. No wait, that was round, too. what about space balls?)
seeksurf, that will be an awesome piece of art for sure. Did you mention, how tall this is?

I was just being silly. I was just making a funny about that 23" going through
expensive gas. How much is gas in your country?
Gas is about 3.20 a gal but im sure its more where you are.

To answers your question: a gallon of gas in germany would cost you about $ 6,40 at the moment. I looked it up recently, can´t stop crying now. I have to imigrate into the USA.

What that tiki needs some sweet pickle relish. We need more condiments to finish this carve! Two shotz of RumpleMintz and one shot Ketsup. Bitchin work. Whatcha gonna do with the head gear?

-G$

I was wonderin' when the A-1 was coming out, cause I can't fully enjoy this Tiki without some savory condiment. What is a Tiki? Chopped Ham? Hell No! It's a hacked up Tree, ya Jerk.

Not much carving going on this Thanksgiving weekend.

Headdress keeps changing I don't know where its going
tell I'm done.

T

Hey seeksurf,

that´s gonna be a huge one. I really like it. Could you show some more details, perhaps a closeup of the mouth and nose or so? That would be great.

Cheers, tok-tok

Seeks!!! Whatcha been doing....surfing?

[ Edited by: tikifreak1 2007-11-26 17:48 ]

S

Howdy all!

tikifreak - great surf shot you have to love the cold water surfer.
No surf for me this last weekend it was family time. I was
looking at your myspace page you are a fellow surfer yes?

tok-tok - a few update pic's for ya my friend.

The large thing above the lower lip was a tong, but
i think i will keep it large and call it a tooth.

This one is turning out nice. Great detail work and such a difficult form. Way to go! It looks classic already.

B

I agree with Lake Surfer : newbie my ass.
You're top killer, boy.
This headresss is simply top class shelf, dude.
Can't wait for the next step !

 Ben

Very nice, now get back to work!
