M

Seek,

You sure don't carve like a kook. You are officially alowed into the lineup with no ruding. (Just don't throw shakas)

Nice peice of work there.

What were your tools of choice?

Mahalo

Looking really nice so far. Welcome!

B

Welcome to TC SeekSurf, Glad you Finally decided to come in out of the shadows. Excellent first tiki too! Excellent facial features so far and the body has great form. Very Well Done!

T

Wow, that's a first tiki? That's freakin nice already!

S

Thanks guys for the TC welcome. This is not my fist Tiki its # 4
You can sorta see the fist tiki in the background its a stump
still in the ground.

Pic's of my fist 3 tiki's

McTiki pic's of tools of choice. I just bought the small set yesterday
sweet stuff.

Backyard work shop, the rain is coming.

SS,

This piece is beautiful. I'm very glad you chose to become a member and show us your work. It looks like you had a few practice pieces and then decided to head straight for the "big time." This new guys is the "big time", and you should be very proud of him.

-G

welcome aboard Seeksurf, very nice job on the latest tiki. Nice classic body on the
little bugger...looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.

Yes! copy the hell out of mine! I only "borrowed" certain aspects for tiki. Seriously, not much of mine is original. That's kinda what we're all doing, copying the originals, tweeking them a bit, then sit and gawk at them. Cool.
Yours is looking awesome, the body is tight! Killer for your 4th. And with your tools, you're set to carve lots!
Good to have another surfing carver around. Welcome.
Aloha

S

Thanks again guys for the warm welcome. Nice to hear you think
my work is looking good.

Very Cool to get a nod from GMAN, congatiki & Benzart

Hey SS,

Do you have any new progress shots of your surftiki? I'm looking forward to an update. I really like this guy!

-G

so cool. keep up the good work

Progress shots, Man I'm learning a lot, but also struggling with cemetery.
Gman, Nice gator buy the way. The morning sun adds a nice color to the Pic's
Marcus thank you for the words of support.

H

I REALLY HOPE you mean symmetry!
Although it is about that time of year to struggle with a cemetery.
Awesome carves!

Looks great. Don't worry about be symmetrical. Nothing in the world is exact on both sides. The uneven "balance" will give your guy expression and bring him to life. Some people get very anal about being perfectly balanced - just go with it and you will be happy with the result.

B

very nice work. Symmetry doesn't seems to be a real problem for you
Keep up the good work.

Benjamin

He's lookin mean n' clean!
Great going so far.

S

Thanks for stopping buy tiki freaks.

HeathBar, even spell check cant help me at times.

AlohaStation, Thanks for the easing my mind.

benella, thanks for the kind words. France? cool.

surfintiki, any East cost surf yet?

Love this tiki. I particularly like how he is holding the board. Sweet :D

Wow! :o Now heres a man with natural talent! Great carve & good to see an original spin on your design too. Im sure you you are going to be one to watch out for - we'll be expecting great things..!

Welcome! Tama

B

Lookin Great BUT you Should worry about Symmetry and don't listen to those guys. Symmetry will get you everywhere. I like'um nice and neat and straaight and even steven on both sides, top and bottom.
Believe all that crap and you'll never learn. You Must have the ability to let things be natural and UN Even and Lopsided. It adds interest and character and makes you a better carver for being able to figure out how to put it all together.
Don't worry 'bout Nutt'in as you are miles ahead of where you should be and are gonna be a Super tiki carver very soon. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks for the update SS, This carving kicks a$$. I love how the arms reach back to hold the board. This looks great! I love what you have going on with this one.

-G

S

Thanks hewey, Tanapoutini, Ben and Gman Im having
a blast carving this guy up.

Alittle advice needed IM taking so long that im getting
alot of cracking going on. I have been keeping the cracks
wet but can i damage the wood buy keeping him to wet?

SS,

I keep mine wrapped in blankets when I'm not working on them. It seems to slow the water loss some. I usually start with fairly seasoned wood, how green is this piece?

S

Gman, I dropped this tree down this summer or the one before?
Its somewhat wet in the middle and has been outside drying under a large
tree at the WA coast. I never sealed the ends, but all my new log supply have
all been sealed at the ends.

S

Howdy all. I'm carving like a mad man when i get time.
I need to learn how to balance life and carving.

How do i edit subject header?

Seeksurf This one's looking sweet. I like the head dress. I think you can change your title from "kook tiki carver" to "Grom Tiki carver" or something, cuz you're no kook.

To edit the subject line simply click the edit button on the first post of this thread.

looking good man! Are you about to wrap this one up? To edit your headline just go back to the first page and edit the first post!!! That should do it??

S

Thanks AlienTiki ill take your promotion. Let it been known
I accept Grom Tiki Carver.

tikifreak ya I'm close. I still don't know what I'm doing lots of
different things going thru my head.

Thanks guys for the edit info.

Nah man, you're no grommet, you're a freaking rock star! That bugger is tops. No need to find a balance; just carve more.

-G

B

Sweet beans this guy is major tight! Really like the hands to the board...headdress, all nice. I can't wait to see this one finished.

S

Thanks for the complements Babalu and Gman.

B

Looking very good, man.

YEAH! That rocks!
I love the relief design on the front of the headdress. Impressive.
I know what ya mean on having so many designs in your head, there's just so many possibilities.
I think the surf gods have noticed, waves should be coming your way!

S

Thanks benella and surfintiki. Yes, i need some surf to clear my head.
I should be good with the surf god's for awhile.

This is coming along very nicely, loving it

S

Howdy all, another surftiki is done. I stained the hole body and headdress one
color, but didn't like it, so I spent a few days sanding like a mad man.

Pic of The Tiki Bog at the coast its a wetland and there is cranberry bogs
all around us. This is where my tiki's will stand in the summer.

No stringer sufintiki the board is not strait enough it would have really
shown the board lopsided.

I really wanted to cut into the headdress and get that notched look, but i could
not picture it working?

WoW, turned out awesome seek!

C

Absolutely great work SeekSurf. I love the colors, the headdress
carving is very cool, and the mouth has tons of personality.
Very nice.

B

Well the Headdress is Definitely working, Excellent work bro!

S

Thanks ya-all tikifreak - thanks for the support I'm looking forward to see some chief shots.

congatiki - thanks for the prop's I have many years to catch up to your work.

Benz - simply put your the Master thanks for your support. Now only if i could
do a vulcan mind probe on you. Na, the struggle is sweet.

B

True words from the KOOK Carver! The joy IS in the Struggle, the having to work it out builds confidence and a deeper knowledge of the way carving tools work and can be used.

The surf tiki came out very nice mate, well done. The 2 tone stain in particular looks awesome :D

B

Hats off.
Bravo,

Ben

S

Thanks for the kind words of support hewey & ben.

S

Arm's arm's arm's and shoulders I'm really need some practice on them.
This guy is stretched out the arms and shoulders are alittle thin for me.

I also have a couple of noticeable chain saw cuts that
will remain upon my finish. I will have to do a dark stain?

Nice cuts there seek!

Here's a tip... you might be able to just hit that with a torch and smooth it out if you can't get in to sand it.
I've found a lazy way of sanding is to burn sometimes.

You've really got a good grasp on the body and forms.
