Hi guys I got this e-mail today and I just want to make sure at least the tiki central people know that security will be DOUBLED this year so if you don't have a wristband you will NOT get into the evening events!! Remember you HAVE to buy a ticket to get into the evening show! I got this note from a tiki oasis fan "I know the last few years the whole "wristband" thing was suppose to give you access to the entertainment..... The security was so lacking at regulating this that i think people have caught wind of this and realize hey we dont need a wristband because they dont enforce that. In fact im going to tell my buddies to come down once it gets dark also....." This isn't the first time we have heard this and Otto and I personally witnessed last year many people who we knew (and we knew purchased tickets or were on the guestlist) not wearing their wristbands. To make the event safe and secure for ALL attendees this will not be accepted this year. Everyone will have a wristband from bands, vendors to ticket purchasers. Remember to get your tickets as I swear that this event WILL SELL OUT in advance!! So sneaking in just won't be an option! :) XOXO Baby Doe |

Question - Are you saying that there are a limited number of the $40 wristbands? I may have guests coming to the event, but they're not a definite yet. Can we buy extra wristbands when we get there? http://www.tabooisland.com [ Edited by: Mo-Eye 2009-07-28 20:31 ] |

Yes to attend the evening events on Friday and Saturday night you will need to purchase a $40 ticket (we will give you a wristband to wear when you get to the event) and YES there is a limited amount (we have a capacity afterall!). I strongly suggest that no one wait until the last minute to purchase wristbands. We are very close to getting sold out and I know I would be so sad if I didn't have a ticket to the night time show so I assume others would be sad too! I don't know what advice to give your friends that are on the fence about coming.... I guess I would say try and get them to make a decision so you can get them tickets. The way things are going it might not be impossible to sell these tickets to someone else - but hey that is your deal to figure out! :) Look forward to seeing everyone in a couple weeks!! |

Nobody's getting into any of the seminars this year without the correct wristbands either! I don't care how well you knew Martin in 1983 or how many drinks you've slurped with Otto or if you're a National Geographic photog, you ain't gettin past us without them cute leetle pink & orange wristbands! Sold Out means Sold Out! Aloha folks, but wear them bracelets! |

Tiki lovers attending Tiki Oasis will not want to miss Although Tiki Modern's roots date back before World War II, San Diego's is a post-war phenomenon, reaching its zenith just prior to and immediately after Hawaiian statehood, which, coincidentally, will celebrate its 50th anniversary this August 21st. Alex will "talk story" about the history of San Diego County's iconic Tiki style landmarks, including the Half Moon Inn, Bali Hai Restaurant, Trader Mort's Liquor Store, Vacation Village Resort, and the Windansea Surf Shack. Speaking of historic surf shacks, Alex would like to dedicate his presentation to the Brothers Kawananakoa, George Freeth, and the great Duke Kahanamoku, pioneer Hawaiian-kine or Kanaka Maoli who introduced the sport of he'e nalu or board surfing to California. Location Kona Coast Room For more details on Tiki Oasis 2009, and tickets to this and other symposiums, go to http://www.tikioasis.com |

Symposium Spotlight On..... Bohemian Surf: A Slideshow from Hawaiian Antiquity to Surfing's Pop Culture Explosion. Now Domenic is pretty well known for doing the best slideshows on Earth about retro music - in college, he produced his own public access TV show, It’s Happening, a tribute to 1960s dance shows like Shindig!, Ready Steady Go, Hollywood a Go Go, and Hullabaloo. He’s written a definitive book on Beachboy Brian Wilson, also the classic books “Beatsville” and “Riot on Sunset Strip”. Chidester is a publisher/editor/producer/director of just about everything concerning the Beach Boys, 60’s surf culture or anything interesting about any retro rock subject you can imagine. So the idea that you can still get in to see these two guys for 5 clams is pretty amazing, and their photo-dazzling talk on how the big surfing wave hit the US in the 60’s is going to be a highlight of Oasis this year! |

I'm going to have a "Stand By" line, which means you can stand by while everybody else gets smashed! Just kidding, yes, there will be a wait line and if people don't show up who say they're showing up we'll let some extras in. They do that in NY theaters all the time. Last year we had at least 15 extra seats from no-shows, but there may be way less this time. (If Martin still has that volunteer position as a mixologist you can actually get in free for helping, but that position may have been filled by now.) Anyway, get there early to be first in the stand by line! |

Thanks for the info on the book signing! One other question... Does the Crowne Plaza have WiFi in the vending area? I've read that the hotel has hookups in-room and elsewhere for $9.95/day, but I was hoping I might be able to bring a laptop to accept Paypal and be able to catch some wireless. Cammo, Thanks much for the props on my work... totally appreciate it! So I did call the hotel as per your advice and they were a great help. Just thought I'd share my findings in case anyone else was interested. If you have a laptop, you can log on to a wireless service pool side for the same charge the hotel has indoors. Crowne Plaza has a wireless provider that they use. Indoors is a different thing, and the Crowne needs to hook you up to that. So then you're good to go as far as Paypal and all that fun internet stuff. Those interested may want to inquire at the front desk for more info on how to get hooked up. |
