Hope its better than I think - so I'm setting a pretty high standard - just kidding I'm ready if you are - I hope to see all the CA Ohana out there and meet new peeps too! Arriving weds to get tourist stuff out of the way planning to be at palace of the Goof Thursday eve then ???
good times!

I got the deluxe pass and will be out early to hit some LA hot spots with Hinano Paul and the gang. I was slow on th etrigger for the hotel though so I have a room at the Hanalei for Thursday & Saturday but am homeless for Friday night. They are completely sold out that night. The rooms went awful quick considering the economy and all. Is Oasis a stimulus package for SoCal?

$1.05 - Change YOU can believe in!

Well that's strange, we tried to book Friday & Saturday earlier today but were told only a few rooms were available for Friday. ??? So we have a room for Friday and are on a wait list for Saturday.

Oh well, hopefully it'll all work out.

Yeah, I lagged on the room getting too.
Anybody find themselves with an extra room, please contactn me! ~ There's a sweet coconut monkey bamboo framed print in it fer ya! :D

MAHALO!

I have a room with two queen beds I would consider sharing with someone if they want to split the cost. I'm a he, but I'm willing to share with a he or she. I requested a room in the quiet section so no parties, etc.

I hate to sound like a broken record with a one track mind about drinking- BUT I AM- has the room crawl list been started yet? Or can someone point me in the right direction? That'll be happening a lot during TO9...

I can't believe he worked the Tower Bar into this.

Hey, room crawl-wise, I still don't get the whole idea about those Room Crawl Checklist nametags. They're useless. Like, the rooms are all open anyway, everybody's invited, the checklists don't tell you WHERE they are, so who cares? Just watch this thread for places and times, jot 'em down with a sharpie on the outside of a coconut, then FOLLOW THE COCONUT. The COCONUT KNOWS ALL.

For the best room crawl hosts & parties, look up last year's Oasis thread and check out the comments and photos, it's all there...

Umm...as I recall at the nooner (and my recollection is pretty good because I didn't drink that day!) there were about 50 people running around with name tags that said "KINNY". So yeah, I met a bunch of new people, but as far as I know they are all named KINNY.

"If everyone wore nametags

Little Not-So-Lost Tiki is right, nametags are a great idea. But those little room crawl cards are what suck; people use them for the first few hours, then just throw them out when they realize that all the room parties are open to everybody anyway....

Hey, Otto went crazy on seminars this year, he has busty burlesque queens doing makeup, Hershey rolling up the Chocolate Bus, and Marty Cate giving a seminar on the IMPORTANCE OF RUM IN YOUR DRINK!

I'm gonna start posting Cammo-Cam Spotlights on the seminars, they sold out last year and this time they look even betta.

I bought my tickets for the symposiums earlier this week. My teenage daughter was all about the pin-up hair and make-up one. I've raised her well.

Finally, after attending the last two Tiki Oasis events by myself, the Palm Springs Junta, including our own San Diego Dan, will finally join the T.O. as a junta. Oddly enough, being a Palm Springs area resident myself, I never made it to the T.O. when it was hosted at the Caliente Tropics - seems like I was always out of town.

The Palm Springs Junta will finally rule again.

I just went to a weekender where we all had a TWITTER #.

I am thinking we should totally do this for Tiki Oasis and maybe have a 'tweet-up' at the end of the event?! How about all Tiki Oasis twitters you include this #tikisd

I tested it out and it works!

Just in case anyone on TC is interested in... sponsorship or advertisement at Tiki Oasis....

Sometimes I think we forget to put this out to TC and I bet their are some peeps on this list that would like some extra exposure.

If anyone wants to advertise in our collectable program OR become a sponsor OR maybe you have something you want to donate to our pin-up hair and make-up goodie bag OR you want to get involved in some other special way?

Just send me an e-mail and I will hook you up with the right folks on our end!

PS we are still looking for a couple more surfer cars for the car show AND we are looking for people who want to VOLUNTEER at the event.

I really wanted to do the Polynesian class, too! But, it's at the same time as the pin-up class and since it's my daughter's birthday while we are there I figured I should go with the class that she wanted to do the most.

Not quite sure where to post this, but our local NBC website is offering up half price restaurant deals-- Humphreys Restaurant on Shelter Island, just became available--You can get a $50 gift card for $25--(although you can't use for drinks..boohoo)
Just thought I'd toss it out there.

**I just got my gift card and you can't use it on "Concert Nights"--I just called and there are concerts on Thursday & Friday night-but not SATURDAY-so they can be only used for dinner and only for Saturday night. **
Still a good savings-but I didn't know this before--(I've ordered a few gift cards from this site and normally the only restriction is on Holidays!)

I will be attending this event, and am excited as Hell about it!

I am scheduled to be on stage helping to introduce DAVIE ALLAN + THE ARROWS on Thursday August 13 2009

People here might not be aware that I have a little record label called LIFEGUARD RECORDS. I have released, to date, 2 LPs by DAVIE ALLAN + THE ARROWS, which I am so proud of. (LPs are called FUZZ FOR THE HOLIDAYS, 2; and MOVING RIGHT ALONG). Davie was a childhood hero of mine, and today is one of my dearest friends. God Bless the King of the Fuzz Guitar!

These 2 LIFEGUARD CDs were released through and marketed by EDDIE ANGEL's 'SPINOUT RECORDS' by the way, which puts me in wonderful company, right?

Check it out:

See you all there, God willing....

Hi all,
New forum member and long-time tiki afficianado who is making the trip up from Australia for our first Tiki Oasis. Just wondered if anyone could offer a bit of advice. We are staying at the event on Friday and Saturday night. Is it worth planning an extra day in San Diego on Sunday for the sole purpose of going to Bali Hai and any other tiki-esque sites of interest if we are already visiting Tonga Room in San Fran and MaiKai in Ft Lauderdale on the same trip? Unfortunately, we have a really tight schedule this trip. Any advice appreciated : )

Looking forward to it!

Aloha! I think you could squeeze in a visit to the Bali Hai sometime during the day on Friday or Saturday (it's about a 35 minute drive from the Oasis hotels, without traffic). When you're there, just across from the Bali Hai is Humphrey's Half Moon Inn, which is very classic Tiki in style! Definitely worth a stroll-through. You could also swing by Mr. Tiki in downtown San Diego for a cocktail and pupus, although I think they're only open from 5 p.m. on. (Maybe earlier on Saturday? Call them.) Those would be my big suggestions for Tiki in San Diego. My friend, Jason Joffe, who owns "Smokin' Tiki's (a GREAT PLACE to buy stuff) is also in San Diego, but more than likely he'll be vending at Oasis, so you'll see some of his wares there.

There is A LOT of Tiki in the San Francisco area, so if you have to choose where to spend that extra day, I'd save it for there. Besides the Tonga Room, you really need to go across the bay to Emeryville to see the Trader Vic's there. It's one of the best. Then go to Alameda (a short drive) to spend time at "Forbidden Island". There are other Tiki bars in the Bay Area that are also good. Check out the Tiki Central California Events link for the upcoming Tiki Crawl 9. It will list all the hot spots, and you can decide from that if you want to see any of those other places, too.

AND... there are some wonderful places in Los Angeles! Tiki Ti, Purple Orchid, Trader Vic's (downtown), Bahooka...
Oh, and Vegas is only a 1 hour plane ride away (or 4 hour drive). They've got Frankie's. Hmmm.... Sure you can't spend another week out here?!
