Aloha!

Many Mahalos for the feedback. Really appreciate
your comments.

Thanks for the Frankenstein impression Ken!
Must be lunchtime.

Aloha Uncle Toesy! Glad she's making you hungee too!

Nice one Mike!

Cheers for the velvet critique LOL!

Hey Robb! Howzit! Time for a Robb update!

Next progress shot. Getting closer...needs tweaks.

Also, This is a sketch for my first velvet painting I did earlier
this year. Needless to say the painting was crap. But I learned
a lot. Got a commission to do it again. Yay! Will do better this time.

Mahalo!

Careful there Jason, this is a family channel

Mike, what would my thread be without your drive-by innuendos!

Here is the new commissioned piece in progress based on my first velvet
from earlier this year. It's much bigger at 20"x 26".

lookin good jason! fun to see the progress!
do the white lines get taken out at some point?
is that chalk??
can't wait to see how this one turns out!

Aloha & Mahalo Tom!
Yeah, it's a chalk sketch. Camera flash makes
it look a lot brighter though. Comes off
real easy during painting as you can see
in this next progress shot...

Love them all jason. Great work.

Cheers MP! Thanks for stopping by.

Next progress shot...

Mahalo!

The progress shots are great, really shows how subtle the additional layers of paint are. All your velvets are nice, and this one is taking shape nicely.

L

I am still waiting patiently for my Kane....do i need to commission one or what??

Great work as always! Hope I dont get in trouble for clicking on this thread at work !!

Cheers TikiMango! Thanks for digging my velvets.
Gotta paint slow and subtle with velvet cause one false move
and it's over. I imagine it's the same for those killer
carvings your doing. Can't even imagine the frustration
with clay. Working long on something then Ka-Boom!

Just seeing if you're really serious about seeing a dude leleliz.
Actually, I'm sketching up some kane warrior stuff that hopefully will look
ok enough to make into a velvet or two. thanks for your patience.
Careful about the porno at work! :D

Didn't get much done with the holiday weekend.
Added a few brushstrokes today.
Next progress shot...

Mahalo!

Stunning! Is that going to be a flower behind her right ear or perhaps a BlueTooth headset?

While I am partial to the wahines (for obvious reasons :D ), I have to agree that it would be cool to see some striking velvet warriors.

Good one Mike! I think it's actually the rare Bluetooth hibiscus.

Well, my better half just bought a kiln recently and she
had some scrap clay sitting around, so I made my first mug.
Never really sculpted before, mostly paint if I can.
This was a lot of fun. Maybe I'll goof around with some more mud!
I made it look kinda like the tiki luggage tag I designed for our company
fluff a while ago.

Hi Jason, this makes me think of the line in 'Back to the Future' when Doc Brown says to Marty as they stand over an elaborate model of Hill Valley-- "Sorry I didn't have time to build it to scale and paint it...".

Those are just awesome. :)
John

Well done, Jason!

Made a posting mistake!

But since I'm here, Cheers Greg, Mr. Pupu, and Stephen!

Right on about the 'Back to the future' reference Mr. Pupu!
Love that line! Just saw it again recently too!

Nice First Mug Jason!
Knock out that bottom row of teeth and he's a dead ringer of that sweet tiki tag!
And the drinking wahine is sooooooooo becoming more and more beautiful!
YAY!
and Right on!
Claudette bought a kiln fer you guys!
YAY!

When I saw your thread title, my first thought was this:

 So glad you went with the tiki instead!

Great job Jason! Congrats to HulaLula on the kiln purchase

Cheers Ken! It's officially Claudette's kiln but hopefully
she'll let me use it from time to time. :)

Thanks Mike! Now whatever made you think a mug by me
would look like that? Good one!

I posted progress shots for these a while ago
and here they are finished and framed.

'Vahine de Tahiti' 19x23 with frame

'Drinking Vahine' 14x17 with frame

Jason, each new painting is more and more amazing. Just awesome :)
Those frames are beautiful too. Where did you find those?

L

yeah yeah you can paint a nice rack we get it! yeah yeah they are awesome and you are really good...blah, blah, blah.
Jesus Jason if I could just have a man on velvet blowing a shell or dancing with fire I would be content!!

Also can you PUH-LEASE tell your lovely wife to post some of her work on here? I didnt even know she made those head vases until I just saw a photo and they are fabulous.

Happy New Year TC!

Cheers John!
Thanks for digging my velvets!
I like those frames too.
If you want, I can ask my framer
where he gets those frames from.

And on that note...Someone named...fefefiz, I think...cannot remember for sure :D, suggested
I paint a Velvet Kane. So here is a sketch for a new velvet I just started.
Got some more sketches I will post soon. Samoan Fire Dancer!

Ahh, tenacious fefefiz...all you had to do was ask.

If that Kane painting comes out even 1/2 as good as the sketch its going to be KILLER!

Can't wait Nosaj!

Jason, will the Samoan Fire Dancer get some fire? Great start!

Liz, in case you missed it, Claudette had a whole bunch of beautiful stuff posted in Marketplace.

EDIT - Nevermind, you saw it :)

SF

Wow, love your velvet work Jason.
I think my fav. is "Vahine de Tahiti"
Keep it up!

Aloha!

Cheers leleliz!
Me thinks it will be better than the sketch.
...Famous last words.

Thanks Mike! Here is the Samoan Fire dancer.
That one is Samoan still life.:)

Wow thanks Doug! When I build my tiki room
I want it to look just like one of your paintings!

Here is another sketch for Wanda Woop Ass!

L

christ on a cracker!

more ...post more men folk!

Another sketch.
More men folk...
Samoan fire dancer.
Think I might put a glowing tiki behind
him on the velvet I do of this.

L

Jason the men folk are even better than the boob..I mean women folk. i am eagerly anticipating them coming to velvet so get to steppin!

Jason, that Samoan looks very powerful! But I'm worried - You started out with some cute cartoon wahines that I really liked.

Remember her? Then you started painting beautifully realistic wahines and you never went back to the previous cartoon style. Based on your previous history, I'm afraid that if you cross over to kanes, you'll never come back to the wahines.

Is this the last we'll ever see of Ka'mana Wanalei'u and her sweet sisters?

Jason, Great drawing skills. Taking care of the ladies... good man!

L

So have you started transferring the Kanes to velvet?

Let us see some updates son!

Cheers liz! I am a steppin. Will show pics soon!

Too true Mikey. I did not see the pattern til now.
Never fear, I have a feeling Ka'mana Wanalei'u and her sweet sisters
will return! Did you make that name up? Would make a great
hapa haole song. Might want to borrow it.

Mahalo MP! Thanks for digging the sketches.

Speaking of sketches here is the latest scribble.
hope to make this a velvet too. Might put a firey
tiki behind him also.

Thanks for checking in again Liz!

Man Jason!
Those sketches are powerful works on their own!
Beautiful.....
not as beautiful as Claudette
but a close second!
:)

OK, OK - enough sketches. They are amazing in their own right but I cannot wait to see how fire will translate to black velvet. I think it will be AWESOME and I am sure you have the talent to pull it off.

No, I didn't make that name up, it's an old joke. But I'm glad you caught it :D I think it would make a great title for one of your beauties.

Hey thanks there Kinny! Sometimes I have
more fun with scribbles than anything else.

OK,OK, Mike...I hear ya.
Thanks for the vote of confidence or the kiss
of death! I guess we will see soon enough.

Got real busy with work the last week,
but back on this and some others I will post soon.

KiLLLLLLLLLLLER!!!!!!!!! MORE PLEASE.

I like that wahine. Excellent choice!

L

whoooa...that kane is coming along Jason..its going to be awesome!

I like your sketches, Jason. I feel like I can see in them the quality of light that makes you such a good velvet artist.

Hey thanks MP! Love those new mugs of yours bro.

Well spotted there Trader Tom! Love that one. Even though I have not seen
a bunch of Tyrees velvets as compared to Leeteg, I think I like his work
almost as much. I kind of consider him the John Singer Sargent of velvet
and Leeteg the Rembrant. If that makes any sense. Been toying with the idea
of doing some copies of both masters for fun.

Cheers liz! I am enjoying the process!

Mahalo Robb! Thanks for saying that. Coming from you that means a lot.
Hope you are doing much better and I look forward to your new works!

Jason, I think that you're one of the few who can do justice to these old velvet masters like Tyree and Leeteg. Thanks for help putting the revival in Tiki Revival! We need more quality velvets out there.

Mucho Mahalo Tom! Really appreciate the vote of confidence from you.
And may I add a ditto back your way on your mixology skills.
Love the new concoctions you have been coming up with at the
RR. Need to get back there soon.

Been away for a few days.
Here is where I left off.
Will finish today me thinks.

Next progress pic....

Jason, I played with the firestaff for a while - but I didn't look nearly as studly as this guy! Love that fire.

I've spun fire at parties here on the Big Island...and I looked just like that. (I WISH!)
Beautiful and moody! Great piece! Can't wait to see it finished!
