not finished yet. I planned on getting more done this week, however my newest grandson decided to be born instead.
We helped out a little by watching his brothers and sister. Baby & his Mom & Dad are healthy and happy....Welcome to the family, David!
Here are some progress pics of the monkeys.

I still have to clean it up and then carve some type of border to try to keep it a little TiKi-ish.

There are actually greater things in life then carving Grampy! Great job on the see,, hear, speak no evil monkeys- They look tiki to me already.

I would like some advice on this guy.
Do you think that I should trim the top at a slightly rounded shape that would match the contour of his head-dress?
Maybe leaving the top as is looks a little choppy.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for looking.

The monkeys came out awesome! On #4 you could just flatten him off a little lower than he is now to match the other guys.

That top edge looks like a castle wall! I suggest you cut it off a few inches lower than it is, and parallel to that top-most cut of the design, as seen in this view. That way, it won't be level with the ground, but with the design. Does that make sense? If I had skills, I'd do a photo shop. :lol:

now that you mention it Bill............it does look like a castle wall.

all basic carves I think, a little bit different than carving on a horizontal log though

they were fun to carve...I'd like to do more

Thanks Grand Poobah. I haven't posted a finished pic of the last TiKi because I had some trouble with the staining process and had to sand it down after staining. The stain went on un-evenly and looked bad.
Here is a photo of mask that was experimenting with though. I've got some queen palm logs that aren't that great, so I cut this one in half to see if a mask would look OK.

Better than OK!

I need a couple of taller TiKis for a friends booth at the Pacific Islander Festival next weekend in San Diego.......so I had this guy that I had given up on and never finished. He has just been hangin' out in the back yard.

spent a few hours today .....some chainsaw, some angle grinder, some chisels, some stain, and I think he just might work!

yeah man, stain does some weird stuff sometimes. Just gotta roll with it!

And I always liked that last one...you started it over a year ago didn't you???

Yeah, he's been tucked away in my yard for almost 2 years. I have a couple more laying around that I never finished.....maybe there's hope for them too.
