I've wanted to make a TiKi mailbox for awhile.....today my mailbox self destructed, so I had this guy sitting around.

cleaned him up a bit, chopped out a big mailbox size slot in his head-dress. I better finish him up and installed tomorrow if I want to get any mail on Monday. Although, the mail is usually either bills or junk, sooo...?

P

yeah man...I dig it.

That looks cool! How do you plan on securing it into the ground?

S

it will sit on a concrete base (so it's not on dirt) and I will drive a couple of 4' long steel stakes into the ground behind it secured with nails.
I hope this works.

S

installed and ready to go
I guess tomorrow will tell (maybe he'll scare away the mail-man)

Captain Jack, I drove 3 steel stakes into the ground and then used 3" screws to attach them to the Tiki (it is sitting on a concrete base from the previous mailbox post)
It's pretty secure now but I'm sure that the screws will eventually loosen up and I'll have to think of something else.

S

did a little more work on this guy, I got some flex-cut chisels...so I'm experimenting

Looks like it's anchored quite well .... I think the concrete base will be the key to longevity. I placed a couple tikis on the dirt and they slowly rotted at the base ... good luck, it looks perfect!

I just got the new Flexcuts as well and, yes, they do take some getting used to! I had only used the flat Lowes chisels and the slight curves on the Flexcuts are indeed different ... The tall guy looks great!!

Awesome! Love the mailbox! Ya need to paint the actual box to look like a Warclub, splitting his head!

S

this is probably the best quality log that I have ever had the chance to carve...thanks Bill

gotta try something new, I guess

well....I'll give it my best shot

thanks for looking.......this one might take me a while

B

Excellent beginnings make Excellent tikis, I like where you are going with this one skooter.
