That sounds like a great idea. I can do that. I'll just have to blurr the tools used in some of the critical steps so as not to give away any trade secrets. Thank you for the compliments Mahalo McTiki |

Aloha! Ok, I got a few shots in on what I hope to be somewhat of a tutorial on a smaller Basswood panel. 11 X 9 X 2.5 in Sketched: Now, using a course Typhoon 1 in sphere, taking out all but, the detail areas Using a 1/2 in course Typhoon, we get yet closer to the details Then I switch to the 1/8 drive motor using an even smaller sphere to dig out more details. Then various small 1/8 in typhoons to pick off the details starting with what is intended to be the "Near" and then the "far". Everything is cut with depth in mind. Then of course, sanding.... I generally spray the piece down in order to get all of the dust out of it and to let me know where to sand once dry again. I have about 45 mins left on this panel Hope this helps Mahalo McTiki |

Thank you guys! I tried to take a pic with the burr currently in use every 30 to 45 minutes. Its not easy to do a tutorial without a Go Pro or something and then narrate it...... It takes as much patience to carve a huge piece as it does for a panel. The difference is your. F^Up factor on a smaller piece. These burrs can dance at 22000 rpm! Whatever they touch...is affected. I have the "oh shit!" Pile to prove it. Oh...Will....the orange palm tree you mentioned was supposed to resemble a torch. You can't tell from the angles shown, but it is originating from the boat floor. Thank you all the same. Mahalo my friends McTiki [ Edited by: McTiki 2012-08-13 16:33 ] |

Ok, This one is almost done. I need less sophistacation in designing these. Thank you for the comments. oh, Will, like all things of this nature, one must be gentle! I was surprized I didn't break them in the process too. I'm going to tone down her lips some. Looks gawdy in plain Gunstock. Mahalo McTiki |

very cool and original as usual Andy! Waiting on the first northeast swell of the year, and it's looking like I may come over there and camp out or something for a couple of days. We need to have the long awaited & much anticipated "central FL tiki beer / show & tell" get-together... |

And yeah Id be down with hangin in the shade, sippin something refreshing and tellin Tiki story. I've carved with others before and it isn't very condusive to discussion. But hey! If someone breaks out a saw, I'm down with watching! Mahalo! McTiki |

i really cant say enough about your art. your tikis are so far outside the box and i always find myself going through the pictures of them with a sense of amazement and your panels are just as amazing. i have to fight the urge to rip off your style. TC is loaded with amazing artists but i must say your work is some of the stuff i like most. on offense to every one else. i thank you for sharing the pictures they are just mind blowing. thanks Andy Chris |
