Slippers?

A jug of wine, a loaf of bread ... and handcuffs.

I usually can't get my clothes off quick enough to fall into bed and into a deep sleep. I work night shift, until 12:30 AM and usually make it home around 1:30 - 2 AM and the fact that I make it home without dozing off is a real feat in itself. A couple weeks ago I actually pulled into the driveway, turned off the ignition and fell asleep behind the wheel. Not for a few minutes or a half hour but until 4:30 in the morning! My wife was getting worried that I wasn't home from work, saw the car in the driveway and turned on the lights to see me sawing logs in the driver's seat! I wish I had the energy to do anything when I get home from work but with my son consistently waking up around 6:30 - 7:00 AM, I need as much rest as possible!

Home? What's this 'home' thing you speak of?

The first thing I must do is feed the dog, she doesn't let me do anything else! Then it's the heck out of my work clothes, and out to the garden for a once over. That's my decompression time. Supper, feed the koi when it's dark, tv, bed, more tv, sleep.

Wednesdays are wing nights at the pub when the hubby's home, and we usually have people over for burgers a couple Fridays a month. Saturday mornings I do waffles, usually for those that were over for burgers the night before. When I'm about one waffle away from being done, the dog starts getting excited. You see, she gets to lick the bowl. If there are any waffles left over, I save them for her(we call them 'one toss frisbies').

Turn on the Tiki bar.
Start the Ape CD.
Create a beautiful mai tai.
Then watch Tiki porn with the volume down.

I either work from home or live at work, I haven't really worked out which one it is yet, and it's sometimes hard to determine when one starts and the other finishes.
But it's usually when I goto sleep and wake up.
Can't wait for the Oasis to have some time off.

For the last 10 weeks our kitchen has been under reconstruction. The first thing I did was come home, was try to figure out what was wet, disconnected, usable. I had to rinse dust off everything before you could eat or drink out of it. Mr. Pineapple has been working really late and eating dinner at work, so I had cereal or ice cream for dinner! Sometimes the living room furniture was covered in tarps, and pushed to one side. This blew. I usually came home, got into jammies and fell asleep early. (First trimester of pregnancy + construction will do that)

Now, it's all finished, Mr. P is still on crunch time deadline, but this weekend he had one day off and we cleaned, threw stuff out, put stuff away, and the tiki bar/corner is restored to it's pre-construction glory. I really missed it!

Today when I come home, the house will be more normal than it's been in 3 months. I will make some dinner, watch the Giants if they're on; they're not, they play the Dodgers tomorrow :( So, maybe some seinfeld re-runs, and do some pre-garage sale clothes purging! Sadly, I'll probably never be a size 8 again, and if I am, I'm buying new clothes!

I really miss having a cocktail when I come home, but I suppose it's better to have a baby who can read and will someday have the motor skills to squeeze limes for mommy!

Tangaroa I completely empathize with you... my schedule is similar but it takes place in the morning instead...

6:30AM - 7:00AM - Awaken by my son, change his diaper
7:00AM - 7:30AM - Give my son his daily banana then either Cheerios, oatmeal or a waffle. Prepare a bottle for my daughter.
7:30AM - 8:30AM - Wait for the wailing from my daughter's room, take her out of the crib, change her diaper, sit down to feed her the bottle and her baby cereal.
8:30AM - 9:00AM - Spend time playing with my son - either Legos or Thomas trains, usually change another diaper.
9:00AM - 10:00AM - Sesame Street - try to doze in the chair while son watches, place daughter in her bouncy seat or her play saucer. God bless Jim Henson!
10:00AM - 11:00AM - Put daughter in her crib for nap, take a shower w/my son (I can't leave him alone or god knows what he'll get into) Deal w/his inconsolable crying when it's time to get out of the tub. Get dressed, get son dressed.
11:00AM - 12:00PM - Prepare bottles and snacks for the kids to take to the babysitter. Fix my son lunch - usually peanut butter and jelly or occasionally a Boca burger w/fruit salad or green beans. Wake up daughter, change her diaper again, get her dressed...
12:00PM - 1:00PM - Frantically try to tie up loose ends - either have my son sit on the potty or change his diaper whichever he feels is to his advantage, empty dishwasher, fold clothes in the dryer, clean up the kitchen, pick up the toys all over the floor. Feed my daughter another bottle and a half a jar of carrots or pears. Put the dog bed in the kitchen, put up the gate to keep them inside, refill their water bowl, remember the insulated bag w/snacks and bottles, run around frantically trying to find my son's shoes - wrestle him down long enough to place shoes on his squirming feet, put kids in their car seats...
1:00PM - 1:15PM - Drop off kids at babysitters, leave for work
1:15PM - 2:30 PM - Drive to work
2:30PM - 12:30AM - Work
12:30AM - 1:45AM - Drive Home
1:45AM - 2:15AM - Go to sleep
2:15AM - 6:30 AM - Sleep
6:30AM - It all starts again!

Don't get me wrong I love my kids more that anything but I think my schedule would be perfect for scaring away teenagers from having unprotected pre-marital sex. :)

JohnTiki and Tangaroa - you guys are awesome! Thanks for giving Mr. Pineapple a good example to live up to :)

It's really great that you're so involved in your kids everyday routine! Really, Mr. P can't wait to play legos with the boy!

I have some friends whose husbands have removed themselves from the day to day stuff with their kids, and it's kind of sad, the kids think of spending time with Dad as a treat, which I think as a parent, is kind of sad. One of these days they'll be off with their friends, and your very existence will be an embarrassment to them, enjoy the Legos while you can!

4:00PM Leave office and walk into town
4:15 - 5:00 Check out the charity shops/visit banks/get food for dinner etc/ then walk one further minute home
5:00-6:00 - Go on internet/read a magazine/sometimes have a glass of wine or G&T/ Wife arrives home
6:00 I cook dinner.
6:45 - Eat dinner and watch DVD (we're members of a DVD club)
8:30 onwards - Wife goes into another room to boogie to her fave tunes while I play playstation games/read/watch the footy/occasionally do something constructive.

man I hate having to go to school, and work but it may be better than a little one right now...

Since the question is just "after work", here goes:

After leaving work at 4:30pm, I spend an hour in traffic. I then spend 4 1/2 hours at school. I really let my hair down at school by studying, then for fun I go home and study some more...

yeah, fun times!

no such thing as getting home from work its just changing work locations and duties until collapsing

put coffee on
change into t-shirt and sweatpants
nap for about an hour
make a cup of coffee
wander into the back of the studio to begin painting..
every darned day.

yep...that sums it up.

I'm going home and sleep with my wife.

Normal routine is this:

Driver drops me off in front of Penthouse
Butler opens front door with Mai Tai in hand (shaken, not stirred)
Maid brings slippers and robe and applies foot massage as I oogle her barely concealed clevage
Chef prepares usually fare of filet mignon pared with a 69 Cabernet
After dinner I retire to the study and read the stock report in my vibrating Eames lounge chair
A quick sauna ensues before I slide into bed with my hand made 1000 thread count silk sheets
Awake in the morning to hand squeezed quava juice and french toast, start hellish process all over...

So in all reality we have VERY boring lives after we get off work! A month ago my routing was very different from today:

Before:

Come home, give the dog 5 minutes of play/attention time, go upstairs and change out of my work clothes into knock-abouts, come back downstairs and take the dog for a 30 - 45 minute walk, come back and collapse in my chair, maybe accidentally take a catnap, in front of the boobtube. Later, either fix dinner or don't, watch more boobtube and eventually wander off to bed after the hubby got home.

Now:

Come home, play with the dog for a minute, discuss the day with the hubby who is now home before I am and does all the doggy-walk stuff, collapse in my chair in front of the TV and deflect questions like "what's for dinner?" and "did you return that video yet?", gain an extra 5 pounds 'cause I'm not out walkin' the dog as much, take the dog out for a last pee and roll off to bed around 11:00 after the hubby falls asleep on the couch and snores so loud I can't hear the boobtube anyhow!

It was much quieter but lonlier when the hubby worked the late swing shift!
