2008 Northeast Tiki Tour (NETT)

Pages: 1 2 3 4 5 6 259 replies

The survivors have all been accounted for, the damages paid, the tour bus finally turned up more or less in one piece, and barring the outcome of a hearing or two, Bargoyle decided that the 2007 Tour came close enough to breaking even that we should have another go. So let this serve as an announcement of....

The 2008 Northeast Tiki Tour!

And since Sully still won't turn over those photos, I decided to help again.

Right now, we're in the earliest of early, early stages of planning. But if you'd like to get on the mailing list, please visit:

Hooray!

Form submitted!

All hands to the rigging! Prepare to board!

Well done stout fellows!

I gotta make it up for the Friday event this time (I just hope the liver transplant takes).

Mine too!

Thats the beauty of digital photography. You can NEVER get the negatives, and the blackmail can continue forever!!!

Back to work on the website!! No time for TC posting!! Work work work!!! heh heh.

Oh yeah, looks like we'll be swingin' on Sept 19, 20, 21.

Still a loooong ways away, and those dates are subject to change, but thats what we're looking at right now.

I would suggest that everyone plan on being there for Friday this year. Its gonna be a little different, and some big stuff is gonna go down friday night. You need to be there.

As usual, details to come as we get them worked out.

Present and accounted for (plus one)!

I don't know why the website asked after I submitted my info, but yes, I have ever lied about being/not being a virgin. Is that so wrong?

S

Yippee! Yahoo! Hoo-Ray!

yar. I am there. yar.

Yes, not in August! Now I can attend.

Please please please keep it 19, 20, 21!!!! That's the only weekend in September I'm off!

Fingers crossed, praying nightly...

I wonder if this is big enough to handle us all?

S

That's a Big Bus!

T

I'm in... I wasn't asked a fun question after I signed up can I sign up again?

Beth

Damn the bus let's get a ship and sail from place to place. One with lot's of rigging and plenty of room for swordplay!

Aaaarrgh! Are ye with me?

Geez. We're already thinking how we're going to smuggle you back into the Kowloon.

Lots of drunk people on a boat in open water. What could go wrong?

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
a tale of a fateful trip,
That started from this tiny motel,
aboard this mighty bus.

Bargoyle was a mighty drinkin' man,
Pappy was brave and sure.
Forty-Five passengers set off that day
for a nine hour tour.
A nine hour tour.

The driver started getting drunk,
the mighty bus was lost.
If not for the help from the drunken crew,
Intoxication would be lost.
Intoxication would be lost.

The bus pulled around on the side of a
big tiki restaurant,
with Bargoyle,
and Pappy too,
Tikisgirls,
and her mugs,
jpmartdog,
the Mayor and Mr. Ho,
here in Kowloon's in Saugus.

Now that's an instant classic.

When does the full-length feature come out?

I got your "full length feature" RIGHT HERE!

..sb

S

Now that's an instant classic.

The best fun is singing "jpmartdog" like they sang "the movie star"

"jay-PEE mart-DOG"

When is season one due out on DVD?

And I'm the one that keeps getting in trouble for the off color jokes?

I think someone needs to do a Music Video of "the song" for youtube? Can anyone sing?

Beth

Can anyone sing?

That Jim Nabors can sure sing.

J

Robert Goulet used to be able to sing... now its just "an impossible dream"

Ok, for those of you were saving the date for "Return of the Son of The NETT", I hope you wrote it in pencil.

Pappy & I are on recon this weekend, and hopefully will have some solid dates by monday or tuesday.

They may or may not be the original Sept dates we were gunning for. Even starting planning 11 months ahead of time stuff is booked up!?!?!?! Sheesh!

Although, I guess its nice to know there are people out there more mental than I am....

What you need is a bit of "Uncle Carmine" to impress upon them the proportionaly better deal which you offer.

Almost got all the stops for the 2008 Tour nailed down. You guys like Mexican food, right?

Ok, here's the lineup for the '08 tour:

!Viva la gira de tiki nordeste!

[ Edited by: leisure master 2007-11-19 11:58 ]

I'm ready to go!

Here's some of the places we crossed of the list yesterday:

Fantasy Island - Salem - Must have been good once. Looks like it's just been remodeled. Only a few Orchids lamps and couple of bamboo chairs survived. Oh and my drink was alcohol-free. Next!

The Tiki House-Waltham -Takeout only. No tiki. Next!

The Tiki Garden - Abington- That's right, Abington. Sully's standing outisde 'cuz the place doesn't 'til 4:00.... Could be a paradise inside. Probably not.

Golden Pacific -(I think it was in Whitman(?)) - No tiki. Next!

Tiki Palace - Braintree - Talk about an ironic name! We walked in and walked out. NO tiki at all.

Then we went to the Tahiti in Dedham. Still open. They've wallpapered over the beautiful murals in back. We walked out. Sick. We got a call from Professor Hummingflower (incedentally, after last night, we think we know why he got that name) called us and sent us to--Beverly. Yes, Beverly from Dedham!

China Jade - Beverly - Supposedly the China Jade has had the same decor since 1959! We hauled ass. We got inside--one Orchids lamp. We walked out. It was a bad night.

We headed for the Bali Hai for $4 Zombies. The good news there is the owner brought out STILL ANOTHER STYLE of new, old stock tiki mugs for us to buy. If anybody wants to see it, I'll post a pic.

Anyway, we're running out of tiki fast in these parts.

Let's see that mug!

Valiant effort gents. Just be glad you did your scouting before the snows came.

nice research
post the mug shot please !

Damn! You guys were in my neck of the woods most of the day. The Tiki Garden isn't that great of a place, I wasn't impressed when I went for food and drink.

If you're heading the tour to the South Coast/South Shore, might I suggest Chuck's China Inn in New Bedford. This is where I go to, to relax and eat. The food is great, and every Polynesian-type drink comes in a Tiki Mug. They also have a function room off of the bar. Tony the bartender makes one hell of a drink..

Here's a link to a news article for your enjoyment...

Cheers!

S

How about renting one of the upstairs rooms at Kowloon for the day? Sheesh...

B

Thanks for the tip Bogie, we'll have to check it out!

T

Quit teasing... show us the mug... Please?

Damn Rick, good call. The China Inn looks like it has potential. Let's see what the Kahuna's think when they give their scouting report.

The Kowloon has an upstairs???

You're too right. Here's my front yard this morning and it's still coming down. Must be global warming.

Here's da mug (and friend). The other black mug has the pointed head. I know this one appeared at lots of other tiki joints. It just says Made in Japan at the bottom.

P.S. Beth, save some for the rest of the N.E. ohana, huh?

Here you go, Johnman (and anybody). Just Photoshop yourself right in there:

Holy Moley!

Here I am, getting depressed over the blizzard of '07, and NETT II is forming as I live and breath!

I really need to check this forum more often...

The first snow. Before and After.

I'm going to turn the heat up, mix a rum drink, and look forward to the NETT.
(and call my brother to help me tear down the Gazebo for the Winter)

I feel your pain. It's too cold to be in our tiki room now for more than a few minutes, too. :(

Glad I put those base board heaters in and insullated the ceiling in my tiki room last summer.
