Unlikely. Zeta made a grand exit. No one would ever return after making a grand exit, it'd defeat the whole purpose of the grand exit. Cuz when someone makes a grand exit we're all like "Oh no! We can't believe they left! That sure showed us for being the people and place we are!" And then if the person came back we might be lead to believe we aren't so terrible after all.

OK, maybe someone would come back after making a grand exit, but that would only be to set the record straight as to why they made the grand exit. Then they'd make a bigger, grander exit. And then we'd all be like "Oh, they're gone! Again. That sure showed us. Again. We must be some sorta monsters if they have to keep coming back just so they can leave us!"

After that the person who had made one or more grand exits would think about us all the time and how they showed us and we would think about them never cuz the pain would be just too unbearable. And we'd be having too much fun.

However: In Zeta's case the grand exit was mostly driven by his (Zeta is a "he", right?) fear of the number 1000. Also he obviously loved this place too much and perhaps he sensed it would consume him. Or maybe he was afraid he would give up too much of himself and he guards his heart because in the past he's been hurt by other websites.

If he were to overcome his fears perhaps he would feel he could love again. Oops, I meant: Post again.

"Goodbye forever"....reminds me of the video podcast We Need Girlfriends. I think you'll get a laugh if you watch the first and second episodes (or if you can't spare the 15 minutes that'll take, just watch the last two minutes of ep 1 and the beginning of ep 2). It can be found at http://www.weneedgirlfriends.tv/

Anyway....goodbye forever!

Oh....and check it out....I'm almost to 100!!!!! heh heh

I dunno, he/she did waste about 10 posts on the self-started 'Fifty To Go' thread. Maybe the final number should realistically be recorded as 990. Kind of like taking victories away from college football teams after they were busted for violations.

W

Though it's not written down as far as I can recall:

A post is a post, no matter how small.

Anyway, the main point here is Zeta's fear of the number 1000 and that's something Zeta has to come to terms with in his/her (thanks for the uncertainty, Dewey) own time. I don't think we should attempt to redefine "1000" but just accept Zeta's issue with that number much the same way as we have stopped arguing with Little Lost Tiki that spreading peanut butter on two pieces of bread and sticking them together is not, as he calls it, a "peanut butter and peanut butter sandwich" or we smile and wink when GROG refers to his standing appointment with one of Madam Trebuchet's Fun Fling girls as a "date."

I thought Grog was fond of Madam Onager's "Rock's Off" Girls, but I could have been mistaken.

My mistake. I thought everyone had the ability to delete their own posts. But I guess that's one of my Moderator secret abilities. Comes in handy when you want to delete your own 1:00am drunken babblings.

But I could do this:

Zeta did the best he could to delete this post:
http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=29368&forum=2&vpost=506227

So I could do him the favor as a moderator and remove that troublesome post as he obviously intended. That would bring his total down to 999 and he would have to return to make Grand Exit #2.

The other option is to set a 24-hour watch on the blank post above, for that is where he will obviously return. His call for help will come as an edit to that post. When we see his text, we can pull him through to the real world just like in a Twilight Zone episode. Until then, he's stuck in the 5th Dimension.

I miss Zeta already!

Zeta, I am glad you stuck around. There is always room for another unkool kid in my club!

The only real requirements to my club are that you are not part of a clique, and that you like Hapa Haole music and the men that perform it!

I have been soooo alone in my club, for almost 7 years now! Many on this forum, especially the kool kids of Bilge, avoids MY club like the plaque! But Zeta, I am an equal opportunity underdog, and there is always a chance you will accept the hand that is offered to you in friendship!

When you are in my club, you support other artists, even though they shun you! In my club, we recognize the talent of people, and realize that despite how we personally feel about an artist, we can still concede that they have talent and have something worthwhile to offer the Tiki Community!

So please, stay around and join my unkool kids club! We have many outstanding members and alumni, people like John-O and Big Tiki Dude...and if ever one of those cool, smart-ass posters on this forum who are so ready with their cute little quips and insights into life want to join...I would never turn them away at the door, the way they do with ME!

Zeta posted on Mon, May 17, 2010 2:38 PM

No way Lucas! There's no way in hell I would join your club! You are way too uncool and in an uncool way! Sorry, but this is the truth. But thanks anyway! John-O is uncool in a cool way, I like how he always starts endless discussions just because. Big Tiki Dude posts a lot, but I don't know about his uncool credentials.

One thing we do have in common is our dislike for those cool, smart-ass posters.

Gabba Gabba!

P.S. I Do think that there should be a 1000th GOOD posts diploma or even better, a ceremony called The Tiki Central academy Awards™ and the trophy would be "The Hanford™"...
Best poster of the year
Best female poster
Best post
best new poster
Best Urban Archeologist (I got nominated for that one by myself)
Best worst poster (Lugas Vigor or the woof?)
Tiki man of the year for best contribution to Tiki Universe
Best artist
etc...etc...
I know contests suck and the "race mentality" is what makes life on earth harder than what it should be, but:
It would be good excuse to drink some Mai Tais and just imagine that shiny "Hanford™" on your tiki collection!

And the Hanford goes too...

UNCOOLEST POSTER WOULD HAVE TO GO TO....
ZETA!

just pullin your chain Z!

The only thing we have in common, it seems, is that we are both from Spain....other then that, I guess not much!

The more dorks on this forum who tell me how uncool I am, how my posts suck, or say "I ain't your brother" when I inadvertently call them "Bro", the MORE I like it, you dig?

I'm joking!!! (with a thick Cheech Marin kind of accent) I do like you. your posts are bizarre sometimes, but feels nice to have you around... Like a regular on the local bar.
What are the benefits of the uncool kids club? Do I get a diploma? Secret handshake?

Zeta,

I'm glad you enjoy my posts (many here don't) but both LV and BTD are two of the coolest unkool people here on TC.

Lucas Vigor is in two significant Tiki (and Pre-Tiki) bands for Christ's sake. Why someone with as much Poly-Pop street cred as him even cares what people here think is beyond me.

BigTikiDude to me is the ambassador of TC and champion of So Ca Surf Music events. His passion and regular posting are always appreciated.

Thanks for not being an A-Hole, you had me worried there for a while. Welcome back !!

You know what you get for being in the Unkool Kids Club?, 50% off on DTBC drinks before 7:00pm and all night Monday (shhhh... don't share this with the Kool Kids, I don't want them to get jealous). :)

And just who are the Kool Kids anyway? I never did figure that out.

Thanks John, you are good people!

In my opinion, everyone has something good to contribute to this forum. That's why I have never understood why people make fun of my posts so much, because I feel that I have made some funny posts myself!

I agree 100% with your assesment. Big tiki dude, for example, is the surf ambassador...and when you get away from tiki central and enter the surf rock world, you begin to see exactly how respected he is out there by other bands.

Zeta, has and always will be one of the latin tiki specialists, along with Mr. naufraugo. I absolutely LOVE his posts, that's why I don't get the ribbing...

John-O, you are the vintage vegas and lounge expert. I LOVE your posts, and you have a great sense of humor...

And for the rest of those artists and musicians who give me crap all the time, or neglect my own creations (in music) and rarely if ever support anything I do including my bands (by support I mean, saying something on posts here)..well, it;s a shame they have that attitude. I deeply admire most of the work THEY do, and have routinely posted about it. I just wish they would clean out their ears a little and try to get around their obvious personal dislike for me and maybe just look at the music I create objectively.

Why do I care? Because I have been on this forum 7 years now. Longer then even some of them.

Ok, now I feel bad... I was joking!!! The devil made me do it! The truth is I am just imitating Little Lost Tiki, Woofmutt and Grog in the way they tease each other all the time! We are in bilge country here and no one should take things seriously! So there! I think you are good people Lucas! I love your posts too! Some of them are a bit sui generis even for my palate, but that's what I love about them! Not all flavors are vanilla and that's one the great things about Tiki in general and TC in particular! Freak out!

TM

As far as Busting chops, breaking balls, goofing on people, or what some consider good natured ribbing…..let me give you a clear example of how I feel. Let’s say, for the sake of argument that I have never posted anything positive about the tikiyaki orchestra. Never attended one of their gigs, and when I see one of their posts, I avoid it completely.

Meanwhile, I do two things:

  1. I clearly and obviously throw my support to a DIFFERENT musical act. I post on their threads, I bump their threads up, and I show up at all their gigs no matter even if they are in a different state.
  2. When ever Jim Tikyaki makes a thread, I make fun of it. (apologies, Jim, I am just using you as an example)

That’s what I feel is happening to me, and has happened for a long time. The same people making fun of the threads I post have never, ever supported any of my artistic creations in music, except for just to make fun of me. Since they are clearly showing me that there is no camaraderie there, or professional courtesy among artists, I fail to find their posts funny in the slightest way!

I would feel different if say, Polypop or Big Tiki Dude or even Jim Tikiyaki were to joke with me. Because I know they are my friends, yeah, then it IS just good natured fun!

The point I am trying to make is yes, I do have a thick skin when the joking is coming from friends. When it’s coming from someone I barely know, or never met in person, or from someone that clearly has boycotted me, then it’s not fun. It’s just an insult and I don’t appreciate it one bit. (And I don’t forget, either!)

And that's not directed at you, Zeta. I would just say that imitating people like Little Lost Tiki or Woofmutt might be a bust. Their posts are almost exactly what I am talking about.

JAJAJAJA! AWESOME! This is what this thread was created for! The truth.

This reply is so dense it's going to have it's own subtitle:

Preaching in the dessert

I feel you Lucas. I am the king of boicoted "ignored" posts... then someone somewhere is going to publish some book/review/whatever and steal my credit and say that "Nobody cares for Tiki in Mexico or Spain" suggesting we are primitive brutes who don't appreciate our own culture (which is largely true and happens worldwide). But you know what? Truth will prevail, and 50 years from now, someone somewhere is going to give us the credit we deserve (not). Real uninterested Tiki worshipers... I love tiki, I love Tiki Central. I just want to share my bast knowledge 8) in Latin Tiki and payback all the good things I have learned from this fantastic site. Also, it's a way of documenting (with date) my research so when some cut/paste pirate "journalist" rips me off I can go back to this very post and show that I knew he was going to rip me off.
I am NOT a Californian. I am NOT even from the USA! I only have met personally with two tiki aficionados from TC. Naufrago and Bastardo Saffrin. I have NO clique (I like individuals). I sell nothing I just wanna have fun with other open minded smart drunkards with an appreciation for Tiki. Truth is a very few people "get it" to start with. To finish this ramblings, I quote master Zappa as the central scrutinizer by saying: "Who gives a fcuk anyway?"

I should change my nickname to "loner tiki"

That's also what the idea about "the Tiki Central Diploma" is all about. Giving respect where respect is due. Not for Ego busting (but it helps). Just so people don't get blatantly ignored, ripped off, stepped over etc... Just so Tiki Central stays wild in the digital jungle and no clique takes it over and tries to control it. Sometimes at night, I can't sleep from the fear of thinking that one day I could just be erased from T.C. and my years of research, time and money spent on my subject are lost forever, or even worse! Eaten by journalist vultures for trendy commercial magazines!

I am glad that pulling your chain a bit just because (you kind of asked for it) made you say what I wanted to say for a long time but didn't knew how to express.

I really wanna join the uncool kids club now! seriously! You say it the way it is! I guess it comes from being Spanish! Ole!

Whatever.

I get no feedback. I get almost nada for posting in T.C. (except for a few wonderful people, you know who you are  ) that's why I asked myself "Why should I keep doing this? But it's only a rhetorical question because I am never going to leave here, specially if someone want's me to (jeje). So that's the point of this thread, to uncover the awful truth behind the silence conspiracy.
Just Say NO to lurkers! Contribute more! Share! Enjoy!

Kisses for everyone!

Zeta, your posts are a great contribution to TC. Your urban archeology and time spent researching and reporting your finds is much appreciated by TC even if it's not aknowledged by alot of people. There are lots and lots of threads that GROG look at but not post on because GROG not have anything useful (or entertaining) to contribute. GROG not want to put "GROG like" on EVERY thread or post GROG like, because then GROG have posts all over TC with just "GROG like". GROG glad you came back.

Now Lucas' youtube posts....

Amen GROG! Well said! You have said that before to me and I know you appreciate my research. I get your point completely and I don't want "no substance" comments either. I am not desperate for attention either... I just wanna point out that the "intentionally avoiding" and "Tiki gang phenomena" does happen and it sucks. The "I don't know you" attitude. The "I scratch your back you scratch mine" complot. "The East coast Vs. West coast" division. etc... etc... etc... Too much politics. Tiki is all about staying wild. Original and truthful.

Zeta posted on Tue, May 18, 2010 10:40 AM

That statement by Bigbro is great. Definitely heroic. But at least he published two books, one CD, a Video, many articles etc... So he is recognized for his MANY MANY MANY contributions. He reached Tiki immortality.
My problem starts when someone harvest what other planted... But that's my own personal dilemma... And a problem unsolved in the Spanish Tiki History. A big injustice was committed to THE creator of the Spanish Tiki Style and I want to tell the story straight. (with many many awesome images!) Problem is, if I post my studies here, it becomes public domain and then who is going to be ripped-off is me! But if I don't tell the story, ignorance and ignominy will prevail... That's why I want to print my stuff... Any editors out there who could be interested?

Gee! so much thinking got me thirsty!
