Mahalo Pat! Thanks for the encouraging words.

Along with Velvet Vahines, I'm gonna do a lot of hula
girls on velvet. Here's a quick sketch for a commission piece
I'll be doing.

Aloha!

Awesome work Iokona, I love watching your progress.
Looks like your working hard.

Don't want to over work it.

Mahalo for looking!

Woah. That is beautiful. She just really came to life with that last bit of highlights on her face.

Thanks mp! It's called the fumbling
in the dark process and I think I'm close to
perfecting it! :)

Sorry Jason, but "Fumbling In The Dark" is a Squid copyrighted and internationally patented process. :)

The end result is beautiful, no matter how you get there.

Hey kiki von tiki! We must have been writing at the same
time! Thanks for the comments. I need to remind myself that
less is more. I have a tendency to overwork things!
But I'm trying to relearn and unlearn.

Your right Mr. Squid! I stand corrected. I meant "Stumbling In The Park"
Yeah...that's what I meant!

FITD is all yours! Thanks Man! :)

The addition of the flower really adds something to her face. Is she done now?

Jason,
What can I say that I haven't already? Beautiful work . . . again!!

Patiently waiting...

Mahalo leleliz! I'm letting it dry so I can brush off the lint, etc...,
and then work on the hair and details a little. Amazing how much dust
and stuff the velvet attracts. Don't want to mix that with the paint.

Hey Dano! Thanks for the encouraging words. Don't mind hearing
the same things over and over. Will be posting the other velvets
in progress later today or tomorrow. Had a couple of commission
jobs that came my way. Thanks for your patience!

Next scribble shot...

Very cool velvet! She really pops. No wonder you're getting commissions! Very fine stuff...

Thanks Sam! All of a sudden I've got a waiting list.
So that's pretty cool. Love the pieces you did for hukilau!

This one's further along than this, but I thought I'd
share the progress. Got some other shots, but need to get more
batteries so there stuck on memory stick til then.

Mahalo for looking!

First color blobs...

"All of a sudden I've got a waiting list"
That's a good thing (and well deserved!)

"First color blobs..."
At first glance I thought that said "boobs"

Looking good Jason! Have you done any more of the "cartoony" style lately?

Hey Mike! No complaints here, just a little surprised.

Color Boobs!

You mind is like my canvases!

Nope, the only cartoony stuffs been for work.
So this kinda balances it out I guess.

Next color boobs...

Aloha,

Just framed these two pieces.
Pretty happy how they turned out.

'Tehani' 14x16 with frame

'Dusky Maiden' 17x21 with frame

Thanks for looking!

Tehani is one of my favorites (dispite the lack of boobs :) ) Hauntingly beautiful. They look great in those frames, first class!

L

Top rate work--love them framed up! You are really getting the hang of the velvets. Each piece is better than the last.

Keep it up!

Mahalo Mike! Had fun doing that portrait. Gonna do a lot
More of those. Faces can be deceptively hard.

Thanks for the encouraging comments leleliz! Feels like
I'm improving, but every time I start a new one it
seems I forgot what I did the last time. That always happens!
Guess it's good I have these work in progress pics just in case.
Need to push it more.

Started to work on the trees some...

Dusky Maiden looks fantastic framed.

Cheers Watango! I like that frame a little better than the first one
I was gonna use. Love the Hawaiian eye piece you did recently!

I've got some commission pieces I'm working on, but will steal
an hour here and there to keep these going.

Next shot...

Gotta go change my pupu pants. Those are beea-u-tiful!

Keep kicking ass! I love the trees.

Thanks so much mp! Really appreciate the props!
And to think I was ready to trash it early on.
Come to think of it...that's how I feel about most
of them early on. :D

Almost done. Need to finish the pareo, legs, and some tweeks.

Jason, be careful what you tweak, you could get slapped! :)

Looks great, I bet you can do these now with your eyes closed!

Thanks leleliz! I'm pretty happy with it.
Feel I'm getting better and learning a lot.

Mahalo Mister MDM! Now I know why I keep getting slapped.
I need to close my eyes when I'm doing the tweaks!

Off to Trader Vic's for some drinks!!!

Done...

Two words come to mind--
first one: awesome
second one: perky

D

Oh yeah "perky"! Love it (them). Both of them! All of the pairs! Everything!

L

I think it would be safe to say that as long as you painted one of your wahines from the neck down and the waist up you would have fans Jason! Its the perky parts that get them really craving to see more!

Wondering if you were going to tackle any male pieces?

Mahalo Mr.PPP! Wonder what awesome and perky
translates to in tahitian. Might make a good title! :)

Hey Danno! Looks like I struck the perky cord!
Thanks for your enthusiasm!

You are probably right Leleliz! And here I am slaving
over her toes!

Tackle some male pieces? Eeeeeewwwwww! Sounds gross!
But, I might paint some kanes on velvet.
Need to get some good reference material.
Will be hard to turn Claudette into a dude!

It is hard to paint guys, isn't it? If they aren't cavin' in heads with a club what could they do that is interesting?
