If you would like to see most of my art made just go to the "other crafts" thread. Or use this link. There are over 300 pages of step by steps for each piece of tiki art.

http://www.tikicentral.com/viewtopic.php?topic=38423&forum=18

There are completed projects on pages 1, 9 and 11 here.

I have a very old web page that shows past projects. claytikis.com

My first piece of tiki art, just the head stuck in a candle stick holder.

My new mug Eat Drink And Be Merry Babalu Mug

The Sacramento Crawl is in October, check out the thread on the California Events Page. I'm working to make enough of these mugs by then, it's a terrific event with the Martini Kings on Saturday night at Vamps home. I hope to see you there. Wendy

A present for my friend Bullet who collects tikis and Rat Finks.

My very first work in ceramic on my own. Well I do admit to helpful hints from Notch, Babalu, Joniece Frank and Gecko. Also Duane Orzol inspired the creation of the mug. Scroll up to see the mug in clay. These photos are of the mug as it turned out for the Sacramento Tiki Crawl 10-8-10 through 10-10=10.
I document the making of this mug step by step on that CA event thread. Thank you for checking it out.

I thought it would be cool to put the Forbidden Island Tiki in a shipping crate.

My first attempt.

Final Sculpt produced for Forbidden Island Alameda Island California.

These will be available at Forbidden Island at their 5 year anniversary party Thursday April 21, 2011. I will be producing these in my studio in California.

I have a very out dated web page that shows some projects step by step, this Tiki Crate sculpt is shown there.

I was recently interviewed by Swizzle for Careless Navigator in Australia. Here's the link.

I did the Missionary's Downfall sculpt in 2009 and the mold has now been made. Gecko will produce the girl and bowl in his red dirt style in Hawaii. I have the mold for the girl only and I'll one day find the time to do something with her. I'll post the step by step for the girl on my craft page thread. Thank you for visiting, Wendy

She's wearing Gecko's big puka shell necklace.

Dang it, Gecko just pointed out that the I is missing on the bowl.

On my crafts thread I have posted the step by step for this painting. Dan asks why are there islands in the sky, why is the palm frond dead? Art Dan, you can do whatever you want. Some day I'll learn how to take a photo without glare.
(: Wendy

Hi Forbidden Island fans. I have selected this for the glaze combo for the mug version of the Forbidden Island Tiki Crate. The statue version glaze is still in the works.

On my crafts thread page one you can follow the making of the mold for these Frankoma tikis by Joniece Frank. This one little tiki survived the horrific factory fire that destroyed the entire building. Joniece sent it to me and now it's alive again. Here are the first two I have fired. I plan to make bowls in the future.

This hula girl made to go with the Missionary's Downfall bowl is a mix of glaze and cold paint. She's the first one with a top on and Dan said NOPE keep it off.

As MadDogMike would say this is the Fire and Ice set.
Here is the Forbidden Island Tiki that is represented in my Crate art.

I have made the first Frankoma Tiki Bowl from the mold of Joniece Franks little tiki.

Someone put parts of a PBS show of our tiki collection on u-tube. Here is the link. Thank you LiddleLola for providing it.

Every time I look at Kinny I just have to smile back!

My latest newspaper article. A few errors there, it should have said service men started the craze after returning from Hawaii but overall really well done. $720 was an eBay auction for the first Bloody Maori.

My Tiki Bob Art for the March 28th, 2011 show on-line.

You may have noticed how many bowls I have made based on vintage tiki designs. Dan coined the phrase shouldhavebeen bowls. He had the mugs he wished that there were bowls to match. I made his dreams come true. That's what this Tiki Bob Bowl is...a shouldhavebeen Tiki Bob bowl.

My husband Dan in his Tiki Jungle Room.

I finished off the run of 50 of the original Zombie Hut Coral Reef mugs and then I made this set of 6 in different colors. I thought it would be fun to try eBay but once again my husband Dan bought them all from me and placed them in his collection.

SCOOTIKI: MODS & GODS GROUP EXHIBITION BY ELROY ARTSPACE GALLERY IN PORTLAND, OREGON JULY 2011

I WAS SO HAPPY TO BE ASKED TO DO A WORK OF ART FOR THIS SHOW. THE REQUIREMENT WAS FOR THE WORK TO HAVE BOTH TIKI GODS AND A VINTAGE LAMBRETTA MOTOR SCOOTER. I BEGAN THE PAINTING WITH MY RIGHT HAND SINCE I AM RIGHT HANDED. I GOT THIS FAR.

EVERYTHING WAS GOING WELL THEN I FELL HEADFIRST DOWN AN ENTIRE FLIGHT OF STAIRS. I SPENT A LONG TIME IN ER HAVING BRAIN AND NECK SCANS AND ARM XRAYS. THE OUTCOME WAS THAT I BROKE MY RIGHT ARM. I WAS DETERMINED TO FINISH THE PAINTING FOR THIS SHOW SO I USED MY KNEES TO HOLD THE PAINT TUBES SO I COULD OPEN THEM WITH MY LEFT HAND. THEN WITH THE PAINT ON THE PALLET I STARTED TO PAINT LEFT-HANDED.

CHANGING TO MY LEFT HAND WORKED. I NOW THINK THAT PAINTING COMES FROM THE BRAIN AND NOT THE HAND. I HAVE FINISHED MY PAINTING IN TIME FOR THE SHOW.

FINALLY GOT A SOME THAT ARE LIGHTER.

A Gift From Grog.

This year the Sacramento Crawl ceramic is based on a napkin found by Duane Orzol. He is the founder of this terrific event so he deserves some credit. The Napkin is from Tiki Bob's located in the Sacramento Inn for a brief time.

This is a photo of the napkin that inspired the ceramic.

The white face and lettering are hand painted after glazing with ceramic enamel cold paint and baked to set.

For fun the opening is a volcano.

I have also glazed the bottom for a cleaner design.

I did two clay sculpts that will be cast and used to make resin chunk lamps by the master Roger Bodine. He goes by Roge. I'll be posting step by steps on my other crafts thread. Meanwhile here are the two completed sculpts that I've done for casting. The Easter Island head is to look like stone and the God of Light is to look like wood. He'll be painting some to look like that and others will be clear to let the light shine through.

More finished for the Wish List April/May 2012

For RugbyMatt's 50th birthday from Deb June 2012

These photos finish the April 2012 Wish List

It finally occurred to me that having a photo of them all together after glazing would be fun.

Many of the colors Roge can make the Moai statue in. He also has Orange and Green to mention just a few.

We just hung the lamps I've show earier. Here they are.

The War God sculpture is by Joniece Frank of Frankoma Pottery. She passed on the copy write to us. I've molded an original and made this bowl.

The bowl is shown here in front of some Gecko'z.

This War God is by Joniece Frank molded from one of her originals. I sculpted the bowl and put these projects together. They will be available on the next Wish List August 2012. It is an honor to bring back the War God in bowl form.

The Elroy Artspace show for Tiki Kon in August 2012 requires that the event mug by Munktiki be used in the painting. I used it for the torch and the tiki pole.

Out of the kiln on 7/28/12. After some hand painting they are finished.
PNG style

The mug on the right is for the Pele/Volcano swap that MadDogMike is running.
Dan liked it so much he had me make one for him. For his I used the new taller Bob mold.

Next Dan asked if I would make a matching volcano Bob bowl that he could sit the mug in for display.

Using the same clay sculpture I made for Roge's chunk lamps I'm making Moai Bowls.

The Wedding Mugs are finished. I hid the names and date at the bottom front. These are hand painted.

Super Carved Bobs that bavtech will be selling at Tiki Oasis 12. He has an indoor booth. He'll be bringing other tikis I've made. This is terrific because I'm not vending but my art will still be there.

Wendy-

Absolutely beautiful work shown here, I'm so proud to own one of these pieces (not saying which!!) let's just say this piece has inspired many positive comments from strangers and friends alike when they see it in person. What more can you ask for?
A top-shelf item, just like all your other works.

Also - I'm anxious to meet and talk with you and Dan in August at Tiki Oasis -
its like we've been friends a long time :)

Keep the clay masterpieces coming and more posts soon, okay? Cheers! G

Great work Wendy. I like the painted wood pineapple trays and the painting you just finished.

Z

Amazing stuff, Wendy!
I especially love...well, everything! I am really just blown away!

~Zero

Love the hut painting! Really feels like you
could walk right into it. Sweet!

Wendy, your work again provides irrevocable proof that Tiki is the god of the artists! Just like in its heyday, he continues to inspire a myriad of interpretations and new facets of the theme. Just like Tiki bar owners saw the big Tiki temples and built their own, you create the ceramic vessels you want to see. Splendid!
And I too love the idea of using the countless generic pineapple trays out there in thrift store land as canvas for Tiki portraits!

Wendy, very nice severed Moko head. Great attention to detail and superb glazing.

Suffering sombrero bastard! I think I was one once! That's the best!!

Wendy your work is very good, I love your bowls.

Swizzle, Zerostreet and Hiltiki, thank you very much. When Hewey came up with Gallery I think he kickstarted a lot of new art. It's so much fun to read the comments that it makes me want to make something new as often as possible. Wendy

Wendy, love the Impressionist Island painting. And the colors on the new face are SO realistic.

That new mask is sooo wonderful Wendy!
You possess the Art Spirit indeed!

B

Really terrific work Wendy! I'm very impressed! pssst: soon -

Such incredible diversity in your work. Really nicely done.

Babalu has glazed some of my Eat Drink and Be Merry Babalu mugs. He has them on his link under crafts and I placed them here. I like to keep all my art together for ease of scrolling. It's so much fun to see the mug finished with his glaze choices. The whole story about the mug is on Babalu's thread. Thank you for looking. I'd love to hear what you think. Wendy

That's going to be one big project! Mucho glaze work there kiddo...call prior :-)

Wheeew...just recently had a Zombie Hut mug in my hand...AWESOME!!! That baby was heavy and big and G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!!! Wendy is an amazing artist and the design idea from Duane was brilliant. I can hardly wait to have one of these babies sitting in my lounge.

This restaurant version of the Frankoma War god is from a new sculpt and is very different from those that are cast by Gecko in his studio. These were cast in China and are sold at La Mariana in Oahu. It's wonderful for Mike and I to be associated with such an iconic tiki restaurant/bar. If you are ever on Oahu it's sure worth a stop. Wendy

Wendy,
I was at the La Mariana this morning but they didn't open in time for me to get a mug before hopping on a plane back home. Brian may go back and get one for as he is staying another week on Oahu. Keeping my fingers crossed he can come through.
