Excellent work Skip. I'll see you at Festiki.

So back to the knot thing.
Here is a rail or fence that you can make with the Eye Splice.
Kinda cool, and hey it's just rope.
Can't cost that much.

W

Nice rope/knot work John!

Could I trouble you with a question?

My wife picked up some dried starfish the other day at Goodwill, I'd like to use them like you and Blake do with the lamps you're sending me. Do you have a process for making them less brittle so they'll stand up to running the lamp cord through the center?

Thanks much!

Chris

T

I would guess you got what they call a sugar starfish I think.
The sugar starfish would be the worst to use as they break easy.
It's best to use a jungle or knobby starfish.
But you may be able to seal it with shellac or glue.
But do a test first.
PLUS wear a mask when you drill these!!!
Good luck!!

T

Hey Chris here are the different starfish.
The first one is a Sugar starfish.

Next is the knobby starfish.

Last is the jungle starfish.
This one came from the Kahiki ceiling, see the holes.
Not all of them had a light coming from them.

W

Thanks for those pictures John, I've definitely got sugar starfish. Guess I'll do some more looking for the jungle, it seems to be the most sturdy from what I've read.

Are you working on any cool new basket lamps?

Chris

T

Got a nice package from Tikiskip today containing two totally awesome lights :) The shipping was quick, packaging was excellent and the lights are both of outstanding build quality with an amazing patina, you'd swear they just came out of some ancient smoke-filled bar somewhere :) Really nice, thanks John!

T

Chris,
Yeah, I got some going to be done this weekend?
Pic's soon.

And Thanks Mr Tres!
Glad you like em!

RH

Damn Skip - the three tiki resin bottom on that lamps in SUPERMONSTROINCREDIBLE!

T

You asked for it.
Here are a few basket and other lights.
One of these lights is for sale on ebay right now.

Please take a look.
Thanks.

W

Wow! PM sent John.

Chris

T

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TC!!!!!

Here are a few ideas for a tikified Halloween.
These lights fit in these mugs for a flicker type glow.
You can also take these lights apart and make a light up
blowfish for your rear view mirror in your car.

Here is a third and my largest paper
globe tiki light.
You can see one of the rods I put in the center to
hold this light together.
It will have nine ribs up the sides and each one of those ribs
push upwards so you need to have the rods to hold that force down.

W

More nice work, did you do the netting also?

Chris

T

Yes Chris I did.
Had to make the paper globe first
then tied net around all.
This light has many steps to it.

T

Here are the clips I made for this light.
There are 20 of these in this light alone.
All made by hand.
Also got the rest of the ribs in.
But it needs more.
Going to need to bend up some rattan.

Great job Skip! Love em!

T

Hey thanks velvet dude!
And Happy Holidays to you and yours.

T

MERRY CHRISTMAS Tiki people!!!!

W

Happy Holidays to you too!

Chris

That is a unique character...LOL.

Skip - I'm always surprised to see what you've been up to every time I check out your thread! I especially like seeing how you turn such odd bits into art.

T

Thanks Robb you are the man with the velvet touch.

I like to show off cool new tools when I find em and this one
works great on rattan. ( $24.99 at Jo-ann fabric)
Don't think it would cut bamboo.
It is made by Midwest Products you know the guys who make balsa wood
for models.
Really helps to make cuts as seen in last picture.

K

That's a pretty snappy set of scissors, Skip. I like. The tool expenses sure add up, don't they?

Cool tool! Joann's sometimes has coupons for 40% off any single item that help.

HAPPY VALETINES DAY TC!!!!!

T

And KAHAKA I love the tools!!
Just think the really cool early lights were made
by a guy with one or two tools.
Not the huge tool arsenals most of us have.

Here's my first light of 2011,

Lookie, lookie new light cookie.
This one is blue, they always want the colors you don't have.
Light was sold before it was made.
You know who you are, hope you like.

Blue Fish float.

Cluster of bule fish floats.
Do not light up.

Very cool Tikiskip!

Those are some big blue balls!!

K

Azul es muy bien. Bien trabajo, Skip.

Had to miss Amy's big bash
Due to a total knee replacement.

in Tiki carving.

Damn, dude that looks like some serious work.

Hope the new knee works great and the meds hold out while your in recovery mode!

Cheers and Mahalo,

I was thinking this just yesterday

T

New light.

M

Actually I found the white parts a bit bland at first sight but look how it comes to life in the dark! Awesome.
Now go pack your bags for a lamp-making workshop tour in Europe.

H

Tikiskip, I just went through the entire thread and I was amazed by the amount of information and the variety of mediums that you work with. Every single art piece was done perfectly. I hope you are feeling better and you can start creating more work here.

Hey Markusk my wife said the same thing.
I guess I could stain it.
And I got a how to going here now, so check it out as well.
