almost done....more sanding, burn and stain

P

Awesomeness.

S

I think that I'll call this guy finished !!!!!

five foot two inches tall, around a foot wide and really heavy even though its dry

I probably could have done more sanding but I was anxious to get him stained

thanks for following his progression over the past two months......this was a fun one to carve!

Now I'll have to find a TiKi lover that appreciates him "The Keeper of the Coconuts"

Nice Job!! I find that I 'could have' done much more sanding on my tikis as well .... putting it bluntly, that part of this gig sucks! I do admit, it is much better with that little Ryobi sanding thing ...

Let's see what's next!

S

a quick carve for a friend ........about three feet tall (the TiKi, not the friend)

M

Nice carve!

Keep em coming

McTiki

S

thanks for the comments Captn Jack and McTiKi.

Derek, here are some TiKis that I have available.

34" tall

42" tall

16" tall

the one on the left only 20" tall

You will have a PM shortly!!!

Your best one yet in my opinion. I really like this one!

S

thanks amate! I have quite a few logs waiting to be carved....hopefully I'll post more soon.

Nice "quick carve"!.... I need to learn how to do that ... carve them quicker! I too have a stack of logs waiting patiently!

Cool simple features on the uke player, great!

S

Nice works Skootiki. You are hauling ass. Love the Lono.

S

this guy will be hangin' out at a local sushi restaurant for awhile.....still looking for a permanent home

K

Sushi and the Keeper of the Coconuts, great combo platter! Does it come with California Rolls? Like your vibe Skoo.

poor fella does not have a home. Makes me sad.

S

thanks Keylo........california roll or spicy tuna roll are both available.
don't worry seeksurf, he'll look great in my home TiKi bar. he won't be homeless.

skootin right along. Keep up the good work skoot. Fallbrook eh.

P

the keeper is friggin' rad.

so what's on-deck shooti?

Thanks, Jungle Trader.........yeah, Fallbrook. I think we might have met at the San Diego Home TiKi Bar Crawl in March?

Thanks Jeff, I have another log that I think is from the same tree as The Keeper...It's only about 4' tall and really heavy and dense. Gonna try something new, a sitting Buddha style TiKi (it might change, the chainsaw has a mind of it's own sometimes).I hope to start this week.

Well on it's way Skoot. I'm lovin the deep cuts.

P

S

a quick carve for my sister-in-law's graduation

a little more work on this guy
never really tried to carve feet before...3 toes seemed easier than 5

S

I carved this guy today at my wife's school.
They always have a luau for 5th grade graduation.
The kids love the TiKi carving ( unfortunately no chain saws at school, so it's all chisels )
I'll finish him up here at home.

the feet came out well!

S

Anyone ever had problems with bugs eating one of your TiKis?

A TiKi that I carved has some bugs eating it.....small pin-hole with fine saw dust around it.

Any ideas on this problem would be appreciated.

Thanks

Nasty borers......beetles....and worms. Before I went too much further, I would serve up some mineral spirits to the entire log and allow to fuly dry. That Should remedy the activity. Don't bother with a brush. Just open and pour. Repeat as necessary.

Nice carves mang!

Mahalo!

McTiki

Great design on that 6 toed fella! Good Work!

Im plagued with this problem. Yeah those are wood boring beetles. Everyone refers to them as worms. When you find them in the wood, they look like grubs (well i guess they are grubs at that stage). Then they mature into beetles and eat they way out. I bought some Tim-Bor, which is Borax or sodium borate. I think it's helping prevent them on uninfected logs but once they're already in there the Tim-Bor probably won't help much.

Haven't really found any other good solutions.

S

Thanks for the comments and the bug advice.
McTiki, I tried the mineral spirits like you suggested. I think that it may have worked (at least so far) I'm hopeful.

M

If mineral spirits didn't kill them, we have a much bigger problem. I kine like how they spray when a blade touches them (I shape with nasty burrs!)

Hope the douse helped though.

Mahalo

Damn its hot this summer...

turned this guy into a fountain..... or a spitting TiKi ?

Nice! Step back and take a big picture! Is it a HUGE tiki?

Cool fountain

S

NO, it's only about 3 feet tall.......that's why I took a close-up. It's sitting on a block wall. spitting into a barrel on a lower terrace.

S

with some lava rock

That looks great with the lava rock!
