Hey, my lil' guy has just found a long lost relative.

Nice carve, clean lines with the bit of rough surface area brings a nice classical touch to it. I'd say that it doesn't need any feet. When you say close to being done what do you mean? It looks like a finished piece to me.
Hats off to you.

GROG - Sorry about that.

Slacks Ferret - Mahalo. Good in a ugly way.

Benz - Thanks, Ya those dam ugly chisel marks. They always bug the crap out of me. :) Yes hands and feet but
he is getting so dry and hard its tough to work with.

Mooney - good to see you drop buy.

benella - Always good to hear from you.

TheBigT - Mahalo Glad you like.

coconuttzo - Mahalo Yes they are related big time.
Close to done meaning hands, feet left and finish.

congatiki - Mahalo No retirement for you.

Dave - Mahalo for the amazing. I don't know how long this guy took
but it was a crazy amount of hours.

Clarita - Mahalo Go get your hat back on!

Same finish as tall lono ( the tar, mineral spirt, jap dryer mix)

I'll heap some more praise on this guy just like I did on Facebook...

Sick, sick, sick.

He's gonna bring some big time mana to the bog for sure.

Great work Craig!

LOVE IT! DIdn't realize how tall it is, until now with you in the pic!

"Same finish as tall lono ( the tar, mineral spirt, jap dryer mix)"
DO you know what page of your thread this was used on tall lono? I'd like to read about it...

S
seeksurf posted on 07/15/2010

4WDtiki its p.41 works great for the outdoor tiki. Tall Lono has been outside
2 years and he is still kicking it.

The old school tar is hard to find. They put fiber in the stuff now.
I used none fiber on Stub It looks and fills like black paint. I did 2 coats.

Meheadhunter - Mahalo on the Astounding
laojia - Mahalo Love the dryer reverence. :)
David - Mahalo brother. stain info below.

HERE IS THE STAIN INFO props to The Cockeyed Mayor Of CarvaKaKai

That stain is an old trade secret given to me by an architectual salvage guy who restores old nautical stuff a long time ago...2 parts mineral spirits, 1 part (get this) STANDARD roofing tar, and about 1/2 cup of Japan Dryer. Takes about two days to dry nice. The results on more porous woods, palm especially, are incredible. But you need to give it about two coats of a good matte or satin finish over like Deft or Grumbacher (stay away from that shiny polyurethane slop; number one finish mistake tiki carvers make.)

seeksurf -

This is my one-thousandth post on TC. I'm honored to have this post on this thread, commenting on your carving prowess and the resulting pieces of A1+ art that grace these pages.

I've been watching for a while and admiring for just as long...I really can't offer anything new that hasn't already been said here but let me just say that I understand the buzz created by your work, man!

All the best, keep up the inspiring posts and maybe one day I can see some of these works in person.

4WDtiki posted on 07/22/2010

seeks, maybe I'm the one one, but I'm interested in how you're mounting that tiki. I see you're pouring a sonatube for a concrete base, but how will the tiki be attached? A closeup pic of that would be nice.

S
seeksurf posted on 07/22/2010

skootiki - Mahalo for the WOW

Watango - Thanks for checking Stub out again.

claq50 - thanks

Benz - 1000 Mahalo's I dont know? I look at him and think about him 24-7 when im knee deep in. It takes alot out of me. Again thanks to you Im a ok carver. Your works have given me most of my inspiration and drive.

GROG - Thans for the non-human thing. But why does it hurt my
body?

little lost tiki - Mahalo. I try hard.

TikiG - Mahalo Very kind of you. Would be cool to see ya @ the tiki bog some day.

4WD - Man i did not take any pics of the rebar. The closest pic
is of tall lono. I use 5/8 Rebar and drill as far as my base allows. I pour monkey glue in the hole and pound the rebar in.
