whoa iki-iki....that looks eerie! i really like this piece!

how'd you come up with it?
....if you don't mind me askin'!

rawkin'!!! :D

happeh christmas!!! :D

Very Cool Sneaks!
I like how, despite it being a mix of a nude and Korwar head,it still engages you in a narrative...
And the gaze.....the gaze.......
Very Cool!
You DO need to show out here in Cali,my friend!
:)

Thanks Ravenne!
I copied an old charcoal study onto canvas and used alot of thinner and a little paint to do a semitransparent wash, then I stained and wiped areas to create lights and darks.
After that I worked up certain hues on some highlights and shadows. Then I arbitrarily covered the guys head in gesso. Next i flipped thru my sketches and decided to do a modified Korwar mug on him, threw in some NW style totem ears, and then later some expressionistic work.

Thank u LLT! Someday it will happen!

Finished piece..

Mahaloz.

Self-portrait?

Grog, LOL, no! Not a self portrait! I outweigh that little guy by 100 lbs. Now the face though, its pretty close to mine!

Nice work Sneaky, I have found a good deal of carving inspiration in
the images that you create with canvas. I really dig the head on your
latest piece.

NIce! It's got lots of motion and energy!

Great skull....I dig the "loose" style of it!!!

awesome........loose and controlled at the same time! A truly difficult thing to do and accomplished very well! Very nice!

R

I really love that skull drawing Iki-iki!
Didja do it in pen?
Looks like you could've drawn it in Illustrator.
The lines are just flawless!

You should experiment with water colors on the skull....or something!
I'd love to see it in color. :D

Also, gimme!

:D!

Ravenne,
Thanks!!! it was a loose pencil sketch I did outta my head at the coffee shop. I used a basically continuous pencil line to search for a skull, then I found the "right" lines with a pen. I used the "right" lines and also the "wrong' ones, turning it into a sorta visual jazz with random notes connecting lines and echoes just before and after the true beat, similar to the way Billie Holiday or Frank Sinatra do their phrasing just ahead of the beat or behind it... Blah blah.... Color? Maybe!

TSA, Sub P
thanks man(s)! You are top notch! I hear you about loose and controlled, "hold on loosely, but don't let go, if you grip too tightly, you're gonna lose control" LOL!!!

Here is a scan of the finished Tiki graphite sketch:

Cool piece, Sneakytiki! He looks like someone, but I can't place who it is!

Sneaks!
Nice latest entry!
Let's see MORE! MORE! MORE!

I like the all black eyes with the highlights in 'em.

I fine tuned the Creature a bit and may do a bit more. Above is a quick sketch I did at work I call Tiki Punch, no great shakes (pun intended) but still amusing.

I have a few paintings I haven't posted yet, mainly skulls and Tikis. I will try to post them soon.

My show at Flying M is going well and my health is improving, thanks to all that inquired and wished me well during my absence.

Oil painting, new!

This is what the 3 doors looked like finally hinged together.

[ Edited by: Sneakytiki 2008-04-21 12:52 ]

Hey Sneakytiki- I'm digging that skull in a major way with the spraypaint angle. I bet it's tough figuring out where to place the spraymarks. It would scare me because if not placed right, it could ruin the painting - you're right on here though.

Veeery cool skull! I like the gothic frame! U r so classy!

TSA.
Thank u!
Yes I enjoyed the irony of framing it this way, it's somehow apropo and contrasting at the same time. I appreciate the kind words!

Sam Gam,
Yes u are correct! Whenever I splatter or spray over finely wrought oil paintings I cringe, but I usually enjoy the results!
Thanx for the compliment!
