Too much, Andy. Some very sweet chipping there. Some tiny, tiny cuts there. Your eyes have got to be buggin after just 10 minutes. :o (On the weather front, we almost hit 80 today. Spent half the day carving outside. I think we're done with winter finally.) |

Don't ya hate it when you spend 50+ hours carving, and you go grab the stain can and it's empty?? it's all done minus the finish.

Yep. Ya scared me there. I thought, oh shit, it broke in two? Or something equally or more horrible. I just don't have words for it anymore... I'd just stand there and stammer. Off the hook Andy... seriously. Hold on tight to this one... show the grandkids someday. |

Thanks everyone, didn't mean to scare anybody... :) I just couldn't seem to get a good nights sleep with the paddle this close to being finished. I ended up playing hooky from work, got my stain situation worked out this morning, and after a whole lotta hours, and more Pepsi's than i can count, I got this one finished up. On the originals the top handle would be round, I made it flat on the front and back so it would be easier to hang on the wall. This one will more than likely stay with me, and hang on my wall. Not sure i could let it go after the time i put into it. Unless i could have an original.....but i don't have the $30-$50k to buy an original so this one will have to do. Thanks for the comments, hope you enjoy the pictures. |

Absolutely exceptional classic poly carving! If ever there was a gallery piece that would be it. So, are you going to carve the full size outrigger canoe to go with the hightly detailed paddle? |

Howland, Thanks. The wood is Poplar, with a little Briwax at the end. Started a new piece last night. It's a dupe of something i've already done, but a little larger. |

It was hotter than hell out here in RSM over the weekend, bump it up about 10 degrees or so for Temecula. No A/C in the shed for carving? Move the carving to the A/C... Think "House of TMEC"! (BTW, I had to search through about 150 pages of Buzzy's thread to come up with that pic) |

Aaron, I think Mrs. Tmec would have a problem with that. :) I had to scrap the last piece i started. I wasn't paying attention and took off to much waste wood. At least i wasn't to far into it. Got something else on the bench right now. I'll post pics soon. |

So I was thinking, why make one, when you can make two..... I was going to wait awhile before attempting another one of these, but I had to scrap the last piece i started and this was in the corner rough cut already. This one is spoken for..... or should I say someone has first dibs on it. |
