Not a lot to update this week, Spent most of the week hunting, did manage a few hours of carving today.

Thanks for all the comments everyone!

B

T-Mec, looks like another Superb carving from your bench again! You are one of the one people who can do this right and so far it shows. Next time you gotta choose a harder piece to do, you're slacking with this easy one. :0 :D

Another great piece! Why are you in Kansas? Was it something we said?

"Spent most of the week hunting"

...as one should....

Just...so...good!! Intense work.

I had this idea about a couple of paddles in my head for some time. I decided to start the first one last week.

So far......

S

A Gorgeous start!

Great start Andy, and a great idea!

I see you were inspired by the same elements I was, I haven't got around to using them yet, but have the source saved.

Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out... you know how I love the Marquesan designs.

How is Winter treating you so far?

BIG snowstorm on the way for this week... then some bitter cold. We're looking at single digit lows by Thursday.

No better time of the year then now to hunker down with those paddles of yours and carve away!

Thanks Guys!

Lake, were getting 6-10" of snow right now. BRRRRR.

24 hours later....

T

Yowzaa!

Hot Damn!

You made quick work of that!

Love the depth on this piece!
Great flow and organization to it all!
Now I've got the jones to carve a paddle!

Gearing up for the storm headed our way... 6 - 12"

Stay warm!

WoW!!! Thats looking beautiful, Andy..

Fantastic so far! I have to say that some of your cuts are not as crisp as previous pieces. Is the cold affecting attention to detail? I can't say much, because I am nowhere near your level of detail! More please.

B

It may be snowing there Andy, but man, your on FIRE!

DYAM FINE!

Yowsas!

That is incredible, as if you yourself were a native of Nuku Hiva.

Aloha!

Marcus

Seeks, Thanks.
Lake, Thanks. This one was designed to be a somewhat quick carve. Gotta start moving some pieces out the door.
Freddie, Thanks.
Mango, Thanks.
Aloha, Thanks and yeah not spending to much time on this one. Wanted more of a Whitco/poly-pop feel to it, So it will look like it's been on the wall for years. Got some more detail intense pieces coming up.
Babs, Thanks. Missing that SD sun right about now. -10 last night.
Aweulekuula, Thanks.

Here it is all finished up.

This one is will be going over to the Marketplace if anyone is interested?

Quick or not, detailed or simplistic... still a top notch carve!

Another piece to be proud of Andy... the skillz are there!

Stay warm out there on the Plains, damn cold here too at 5 above.

Heres a Solid 5' x 2' x 3" thick Piece of Oak For a non Tiki related carve I have to get going on. I have not worked in Oak for some time. I forgot how HEAVY Oak is :o It's going to be a Sign.

And a Little Maori guy in Black Walnut.

and I still have the Marq to finish up.

Really good piece of oak, take care it is the heart which makes the crack... Hum, the smell of the black walnut... This lil' maori feel already the well done...

J.

Nice setup of tools. I wish I had a collection of chisels like that. Me likey!!!

About the Oak, what's the plan?

Nice.

I knew you'd crack eventually.

Winters here do suck... just getting started on a 30 hour snowstorm that will deliver 12 inches.
Cabin fever set in 3 months ago.

A good workshop will keep you somewhat sane, and you've got a nice one.

The Maori guy is super clean, great work.

I'm stuck here until May, heading out to Bamboo Ben's to get some sun for a weekend and thaw my bones.

Good luck with the sign, looks like fun!

E2

nice work !!!

Laojia, Yeah Don't like the checking but it was free so I can't complain.

Coconuttzo, Thanks. Took a few years but the chisel collection continues to grow. As far as the Oak sign It probably wont interest any one here when complete. It's for a local church.

Lake, Thanks. Yeah looking forward to summer, It's not that far away (I hope)

Eric, Thanks.

The Maori guy won the coin toss this morning so I did some work on him today.

[ Edited by: tikimecula 2010-02-15 11:50 ]

L

Nice set of V-parting tool... The maori guy seem like happy to find his hands. For the sign, even for the local church, I will be interested to watch!

J.

B

Nice bunch of tools there, just send'em over here!
Love the Maori guy, just a tease getting us all worked up to wait and see the good part??
Are you frozen up there yet?

T

Nice carve coming along. Great shots of the tools. Thanks!

K

I'd like to see how you got that piece of walnut down to that shape... that piece ya started with looked gnarly, but it shore don't now!

K

Oops.. I mistook the hunk of oak for walnut. Nevermind!

Thanks to those who bought my chisels, saved me some Ebay fees :)

Lil more progress.

T-mec? You still carving?

Yes I am. Been working on a few at once.

This one is getting under way.

Some of this...

And some of that.

And here is what is left of that big chunk of oak. Not sure what kind of oak this is, but it is by far the hardest piece of wood I have ever cut into. Got's a ways to go and whole bunch of lettering still to do. Luckily they started me early on this, It's due in September.

I think I might have another one in the works also? :)
