Sorry its been a while being a new father "again" (ten years is along time) has definitely
slowed me down. But after the family trip to LA Hitting up Trader Sam's, Don the Beachcombers,
and The Enchanted Tiki Room I had a quite a bit of inspiration. So the bowling pin became
a lamp, and a bland lamp shade got a little splash of color.

Bitchin' Anthony!!!! That shade sets it off perfectly. And yes, "tikify" is a word. My philosophy is that if you can spell it, it's a word. Was it hard drilling down through that pin?

Well better late than never. I started awhile back then got side tracked with a work problem. I decided since lamps are my thing I should stick to that. I went with typical Cannibal drawings.

Then transfer to wood.

I got on roll doing all of the router work & forgot to more pictures.
Here are all 3 finished panels. Burnt, painted, stained & varnished.

here is my humble contribution..
it's an embellished thrift store find
maybe it was Tongan originally
didn't;t get a pre-shot of it
just threw it on the pile of things to paint up
this weekend..
so here it is
(with a Louis Prima song title as the initial inspiration)

cel-vinyl and acrylic over wooden thrift store low-relief carving
16 x 7"

Here are some close-ups so you can get a feeling of the relief carving
which provided some challenges and an opportunity to reveal the original
carver's intent under the paint...

and a close-up of his face
with a happy lil smile!

Ways to get Grog to enter the Art Swap:
a) Grog find time machine, Grog use primitive skills to operate time machine, Grog gets more time to finish swap.
b) Someone in the future finds time machine, programs it to find Grog and his cave, goes back, harasses him continually to no avail, then comes back to present day (THIS present day) to report what we've heard before- that Grog won't be in this Art Swap. Present day Grog concurs- and vouches that this has in fact happened.
c) Extend Art Swap deadline? Tricky, since Grog will most likely be busy in his cave and will not enter Swap, even w/ more time. Perhaps witty comments are enough? (I enjoy 'em).
d) Remind Grog that the deadline is almost up. Again. :wink:

(Grog, just kidding w/these).

Anyone else entering at the last minute? I will be putting one final detail on mine and will post photos. Basically, it's done, just want to take a paintbrush to add a few details.

I think this muggy weather is making glue take much longer to dry.

Here is the finished sign. The picture kinda sux, but that will just build the anticipation. The pink thing in the bottom right hand corner is a plastic flamingo. I figure sure the cannibals are munchin' on a mermaid, but that doesn't mean they are savages.

Just kidding! I'll post my project pic tonight! My week got jammed up because i drove 1000+ round trip to get the dark guy on the left, a rescue pup. He's harvey and the other one is Pudgie. Smoothing the transition is keeping me busy! But after 4 days things are good.

Here's mine - just under the deadline.

Carved Cannibal Fork Pendant
Carved in Walnut with leather strap and bone-skull beads. The points are very sharp.
