A photographer credited as Freidman/Galaxy International, realized that Marilyn Supry looks like she's an Exotica girl*. Unfortunately for the reader it doesn't seem like she did many photo shoots besides this one. But images from the the Hi-life pictorial have graced the internet and this thread before. The swank images I suspect are appearing for the first time.

Also included - a tiki bar is the setting for a men's fashion article.
I don't think plaid vests with matching ties are cool anymore.
BUT to jet-age man they apparently were.

  • "The Exotica girl can be, but must not be, a Polynesian wahine. Or she can be of Asian descend, like Vladimir Tretchikoff's models. More often she is a mix of several exotic races, and can even have a dash of oriental heritage. But she is always dark haired, dark eyed, and slightly dark skinned. Her almond eyes are hypnotic, and her gypsy temperament makes her seem dangerous and seductive." - bigbrotiki

I can't speak for the Mutiny connection - but the photographer was Adolphe Sylvain - known for Tahitian photos like these.

Here is a nice little bio about Adolphe Sylvain, who among many other things shot the final break-up of the Kon Tiki raft:

His son followed in his footsteps and has been producing "Girls of the South Seas" calendars and postcards:

Heheh, am I the only one who found it ironic that he chose to say "taint" in that sentence about porn? Classic!

M

My favorite girl band was named Taint, outta Missouri of course.

Who is "he", and why is it ironic? Please elucidate, I can always learn more about the English language. - I just noticed I mistakenly wrote "taint's" instead of "taints", but that can't be it...

It's a slang word, Sven. Someone will probably PM you soon :)

also actress Stacey Walker can be seen as the blonde in the table of contents page - most notable for the unwholesome 1966 movie A Smell of Honey, a Swallow of Brine.

The Showboat issue centerfold is rather common and shows up multiple times on tiki central. However - since the Salome one hasn't - I must conclude that image of the blond with the hideous stone god is new to tiki archeological science.

I do not own this as I unfortunately just lost the auction.

HI-LITE
VOL 1. NO. 3
1962

The first time I became aware of this issue was actually from a movie Love Is a Four Letter Word (1966) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250524/

Taking a late night stroll in Los Angeles the protagonist goes past various establishments.
Incidentally the burlesque dancer Yajah on the marque is better known as Pat Barrington or Pat Barringer, one of the great sexploitation actresses of the mid 1960s - in fact there is an Adam magazine pictorial of likely this show...but that's another subject.

The protagonist surveys the magazine rack of an adult bookstore where he totally and unfathomably ignores the issue of Highball with the outdoor tiki bar cover and the issue of HI-LITE with the stone god cover. Perhaps he is thinking he could get ten hot dogs instead.

I do have plans for scanning this HIGHBALL issue - in the meantime there other photos from this set in the thread, the cover was at one point too but got lost in the crash.

Swank
Volume 11 Number 3
July 1964
http://martiantiki.com/swank-july1964/

Tiki sacrifice cartoon and Jackie De Witt [or Jackie DeWitt] as Jaqui swank's flip-out girl as a Hawaiian model. Jackie De Witt was the star of Kiss Me Quick! and Sinderella and the Golden Bra both from 1964. She was often claimed to be some exotic mix in her pictorials like Hawaiian or Cherokee. Eventually two of the other photo shoots with the south seas theme will grace this thread but the negative images from an auction are on page 46.

Kiss Me Quick! or Dr. Breedlove is a fun movie to watch for Halloween as it has an alien, mad scientist, and lots of 1960s strippers from the Los Angeles area.

Aaaah, another fine example of the use of the Tami mask in pop culture!:

I suspect Mr. Resnick never dreamed of being in a tiki erotica thread.

The lucky tiki makes an appearance and model Bambi Simone likes jazz and Mai Tais. Bambi Simone aka Bev Newland aka Kim Knowles. If i recall correctly she has a small appearance in My Tale Is Hot (1964) which may also be good Halloween viewing.

Great find !!

Is the article text in the above issue the same as in Adam ??

I don't have the Adam issue but the description of that issue in the other thread about shopping in Glendale implies the texts are the same or similar.

Both specifically mention the Sea & Jungle Shop in Glendale as main location for the photo shoot :)

If you just want to look at modern naked girl pics, just pick
up your favorite issue of Playboy or what ever magazine that rings your bell
it's common, current & available everywhere (well except in the middle east)
and has nothing to do with the world of Tiki,Retro, vintage etc.
which is what I thought this site is all about.

I don't believe it was Sabu's intention to just post anything here as long as it has a grass skirt or Tiki in it?
what we need here is a bit of focus, just my opinion though and nothing more....

I Agree with ATP!

Atomic Tiki Punk nailed it as far as I can agree.

Tiki was very closely tied to the erotica of another time. That style has since become a form of art because it reflects a snapshot (No pun intended) into the culture where modern tikidom grew up and I believe represents elements we need to keep in our modern mix to keep ourselves connected.

To our parents generation tiki was escape into paradise, exotica and erotica!

It isn't the same with Miss November 2013 and her airbrushed, artificially inflated body next to some styrofoam props.

By the way guys, if you think it was better then, here's why! It was! (check out the link)

The before and after of the "regular" woman getting a makeover and then having the image airbrushed into Barbie (i.e., unhuman) physical characteristics is disturbing. It is refreshing to see the idea of realistic beauty depicted in this thread and raises questions like "What happened?" or "Why would the women in this thread no longer be considered beautiful and sexy by today's standards?"

[ Edited by: christiki295 2013-11-12 22:23 ]

Thanks for the Back-up Christiki295!

I think the natural makes it. What is wrong with "real" women (or Men) we actually know? Nothing! They are real. It was all they had back in the day and they were fine with it.

I really think the Tiki Erotica thread needs to focus on the Vintage Erotica. 1960's, early 70's. The swank, but tasteful stuff of an era, we and other Tiki folks will keep alive!
