Too much, Andy.

Some very sweet chipping there.

Some tiny, tiny cuts there.

Your eyes have got to be buggin after just 10 minutes. :o

(On the weather front, we almost hit 80 today. Spent half the day carving outside. I think we're done with winter finally.)

T
tikimecula posted on 05/09/2008

Don't ya hate it when you spend 50+ hours carving, and you go grab the stain can and it's empty?? it's all done minus the finish.

phew. I thought the rest was going to read '...and then your workshop burns down', or something equally horrific..

That paddle is insane! Quick, run down to the 24hr Dept. store and get what you need.. hurry!

Yep. Ya scared me there. I thought, oh shit, it broke in two? Or something equally or more horrible.

I just don't have words for it anymore... I'd just stand there and stammer.

Off the hook Andy... seriously.

Hold on tight to this one... show the grandkids someday.

T
tikimecula posted on 05/10/2008

Thanks everyone, didn't mean to scare anybody... :)

I just couldn't seem to get a good nights sleep with the paddle this close to being finished. I ended up playing hooky from work, got my stain situation worked out this morning, and after a whole lotta hours, and more Pepsi's than i can count, I got this one finished up.

On the originals the top handle would be round, I made it flat on the front and back so it would be easier to hang on the wall.

This one will more than likely stay with me, and hang on my wall. Not sure i could let it go after the time i put into it. Unless i could have an original.....but i don't have the $30-$50k to buy an original so this one will have to do.

Thanks for the comments, hope you enjoy the pictures.

The human figures around the top of the handle really finish it off well. I don't remember seeing those at the chop, maybe you hadn't got that far.

Absolutely exceptional classic poly carving! If ever there was a gallery piece that would be it. So, are you going to carve the full size outrigger canoe to go with the hightly detailed paddle?

How on earth are you going to top this? Its going to be hard enough even to match it - oh dear: blossomed too early and screwed his whole career, so sad..

Chop of the week - and its still only the weekend! Go T'mec!

Freddie, Thanks. So far they are staying put.
Tikifreak, Thank you.
Johnny, Thanks.
4WD, Thanks. I think i had one ore two of those guys rough cut when you last saw it? They probably didn't look how they look now... you have to hold the paddle with the handle at the top to see them the right way.
Seeksurf, Thank you.
Howland, Thanks. Traditional was what i was going for.
Aaron, i have a few more ideas coming up. They won't have the detail like this one, but i think they'll work.
Babalu, Thanks. An outrigger would be cool to go with this......... :)
Bowana, Thanks.
Canyon, Thank you.
Lizzard, Thanks. Ya never know.
Benz, Thanks. If i ever decide to give it away you will be at the top of the list. :)
Hewey, Thanks.
Tama, Thanks. Don't know if i can top it. but I'm gonna try (someday)

Thanks again everyone.

Stunning...a real 'eyeball tickler'! It finished up nicely too. What kind of wood and stain did you use? It's bee-yoo-tee-ful!

A
AlohaStation posted on 05/12/2008

Looking at this paddle makes my eyes hurt - I can't imagine having the patience to duplicate all of those cuts. Can't imagine how you will match this one.

T
tikimecula posted on 05/14/2008

Howland, Thanks. The wood is Poplar, with a little Briwax at the end.
Aloha, Thanks. I'm really not that patient of a person. I try to only carve when my heads into it.

Started a new piece last night. It's a dupe of something i've already done, but a little larger.

Yes, and my soon-to-be world famous home tiki mecca bar will be waiting for it! I'll even provide the frame and glass. :) (I wish!)

Andy, I'm sooooo glad to own one of your other carvings. This new one is just spectacular.

T
tikimecula posted on 05/19/2008

Grog, I don't think so.
Sneaky, Thanks.
Gator, Thanks. Glad you like the Sali, Looks like it went to a good home.

Started a new piece, but it's been almost 100 here the last few days.

I just thought of something, Air conditioning in the shed???

Gotta go to Lowes, be back later.....

AA
Aaron's Akua posted on 05/20/2008

It was hotter than hell out here in RSM over the weekend, bump it up about 10 degrees or so for Temecula. No A/C in the shed for carving? Move the carving to the A/C...

Think "House of TMEC"!

(BTW, I had to search through about 150 pages of Buzzy's thread to come up with that pic)

I'd be glad to take your 110 degrees.

We had another near frost here in the morning with a low of 36. The high temperature was 48 degrees.

Its nearly June.

Please, send us your heat.

T-Mec, I just HAD to look at that paddle agian, it's SO Incredible. I was wonderingif I used it to paddle my boat how much Faster the boat would go! I'm Sure it would GO Faster but How Much?

T
tikimecula posted on 05/30/2008

Aaron, I think Mrs. Tmec would have a problem with that. :)
Kahaka, Thanks.
Benz, Let's just say you wouldn't want to find out.

I had to scrap the last piece i started. I wasn't paying attention and took off to much waste wood. At least i wasn't to far into it. Got something else on the bench right now. I'll post pics soon.

T
tikimecula posted on 05/31/2008

So I was thinking, why make one, when you can make two.....

I was going to wait awhile before attempting another one of these, but I had to scrap the last piece i started and this was in the corner rough cut already. This one is spoken for..... or should I say someone has first dibs on it.
