Thank You!!!!!!!!

The wait is over!! Thanks Digitiki for pulling through even though you were sick! That interview was really funny!

As always, a very well-done ep. Worth the wait. Hope you're feeling better soon.

You're going to have to keep this interview thing going! Really enjoying them - first Diana Lai and now Ernie! What a great storyteller. He had me chuckling and smiling as I was driving home from work today.

Thanks again. Now, let's not have such a long pause between eps, please!

Mark,

Superb episode! Here's to your quick recovery!

Theraflu... ugh. Recommend that you just fortify your usual Mai Tai with fresh orange juice -- the extra Vitamin C will expedite your recovery and ensure, along with the lime juice, that you never deal with scurvy on top of a cold!

YAAAAAAYYY!!!

New Quiet Village!

The world is whole and right again!

Glad yer feelin' better, DigiTiki!

I just posted episode 28 of the Village. This one has an interview with Mark & Maggie of Velvet Glass. They talk about the Relight The Night event in Tucson, Tucson's tiki past, the history of the Kon Tiki and their art with Velvet Glass! This one is a fun one---some very inside information about a lost tiki from the Kon Tiki too!! Enjoy!

Dude your podcast is THE gold standard…period. The attention to detail in song selection, interview and aesthetic layout is just spot on.
I’ll be taking The Quiet Village to Hawaii in May and it will certainly be the icing on the cake.
Appreciate all your effort! :drink:

great show,
amazing song selection,
loved the Billy Mure and Ben Vaughn songs.

and the Interview with Mark and Maggie,
was so much fun, and informative.

Thanks to digitiki and Mark and Maggie.

Hey Digitiki,

Great job with the podcasts! I am finally catching up to them. Really enjoyed jeff chenault's wacky stuff, and the squid interview was fun too. I am from Phoenix (now in Boston) and never realized the rich heritage Tuscon had with tiki although I know the Kon Tiki for sure and have been there. So, great hearing Velvet Glass talk about the inside scoop. Wish I could attend that event down there - looks fab! I have a gig that weekend nonetheless.

Anyhow, keep up the great tunes!

Mr. Ho

THanks OnlyATikiLad, Big Tiki & Mr. Ho for the kind words!!! The one thing I forgot to mention about Tucson and Tiki is that big Moai that was just relocated. Mr. Ho, I'm glad you liked the Squid show too. That one was really fun. We were getting tanked as the evening wore on and sometimes you can hear it in our voices. Thank you guys again for the encouragement! Mahalo

Great show can't wait to see the torches lit!!!!

On a side note I was out thrifting for vinyl on Sunday and picked up Billy Mure's "Supersonic Guitars in HiFi" and "Tough Strings" but passed on "Firecracker" the LP had some deep gouges.
I had never heard of him, and was kinda surprised when I heard you mention his song when I was listening to the show Sunday night.

Beach Bum,
Yeah Billy Mure is pretty cool! He's 90 now and performed a few years back at Hukilau in Florida. He still plays regularly at senior centers in FLorida. His albums are fun. Pink Hawaii is a great one too.

Fantastic new pocasts, pally~! That Billy Mure sure threw it down back in the day. How cool of him to keep on keepin' on like this.

Break a leg at the show next week! Bound to be a scorcher, there, Sir Lush.

New episode (#29) now up. This one is an all Gene Rains feature. This episode is packed with Gene Rains stuff--none of which is available on CD!! Enjoy!

D

I've been waiting for this episode . . . love Gene Rains!!

BEST EPISODE OF QUIET VILLAGE ... EVER!

All hail Gene Rains! His version of Lotus Land is one of the best tunes of all exotica. I have not heard good versions of some of these tunes since Vegas Vic spun them years ago. Thank you, thank you Digitiki!
U Da Bes!

Hey, they do have live music here at the Kona Air port on the Big Island... Hula dancers too sometimes. It's always awesome. However, I've never heard tune-age as fantastic as Gene Rains at the air port.

Thanks Again for digging out the Rains!

Tiki Shark

Wah-heu! Thanks for #29, Digitiki! :)

dug the show,
thanks Mark,

Jeff(btd)

#29 was my #1, D.T. I am no longer a Digitiki virgin. It was VERY, VERY good for me...with a cocktail in hand on this stormy, RAIN-Y night.

Many Mahalos to the Quiet Village!

Digitiki, I had to post and thank you. I have spent the last week listening to every poscast and catching up. I really had never appreciated or had much exposure to exotica and you have parted the bamboo curtain and lead me to the light.

Thanks!!

I'm ready for the next episode now. :)

yeah...love the Gene Rains special...I have sadly neglected this genius on my podcast....will have to aquire some and get him on the air! Well done sir, looking forward to the next one.

A new episode (#30) of Quiet Village trickled into my iPod this morning, bringing extra joy to another day in paradise! Two thumbs (or rather Mai Tais) up! Thank you, DigiTiki, from the East coast at Flagler Beach, Florida!

Sweet! New Episode!

JB

Thank you to everyone that approached me at Tiki Caliente for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed my guest "take over" of The Quiet Village.

Great show,
loved the rarities, and the Ukulele orchestra.

Jeff(btd)

Episode 31 now up - featuring new digital reissued of classic albums. Enjoy!

T

Having endured many Mai Tais without, I was overjoyed when iTunes "Update Podcast" delivered a new episode of the Quiet Village (Episode #32) from Digitiki, featuring the Beachcomber Trio. Mark, hope you enjoy balmy breezes from your new hut, and thank you from your many listeners.

Enjoyed this ep, thanks for the heads-up on the Beachcomber Trio album (ordered mine this evening!). And I would love to do an ep w/ you or for you, Mark! Take care and enjoy the new 'hut.'

Great episode !!

I really liked the alternative versions of theme songs we're already so familiar with. The Bjork version of "You Only Live Twice" is better than Nancy Sinatra's. All of my John Barry favorites were included but I think I would have added "Dawn Raid on Fort Knox". :)

Also I think they should re-release ALL the Bond films with a commentary track by both Joe Banks and Digitiki. That was some funny stuff !! Digitiki's Sean Connery impression sounds just like Mr. Howell. :D

The only thing I'm in great disagreement with is their dislike for "Diamonds are Forever" (the film not the theme song). They consider it one of the worst 3. It's my second favorite right after "Thunderball". Here's why:

  1. THE classic Shirley Bassey Bond Theme (but we all agree on that).

  2. One of the more clever plots in the series which leverages the "urban legend" surrounding Howard Hughes when he was holed up in the Desert Inn.

  3. I thought Jill St. John was great as one of the saucier Bond Girls. Also some of the most memorable cleavage with Lana Wood (playing Plenty O'Toole).

  4. Great period location shooting:

  • Downtown Las Vegas in all its early 1970's glory before the canopy and Steve Wynn's horrible exterior remodeling of the Golden Nugget.

  • Circus Circus when the trapeze acts were performed DIRECTLY over the casino (it was remodeled shortly afterward).

  • The super cool Mid-Mod Lautner-designed Elrod house (located in Palm Springs).

I'm looking forward to Part 2. :)

listening now,
great Idea for a show.

I always thought that Black Sabbath's
"Never Say Die"
should have been a Jame's Bond theme.

Jeff(btd)

TT

Just finished part 1, and I'm anxiously awaiting part 2 and the rumored bonus content!!!

Looking forward to hearing how slurrrrry Joe Banks gets in episode 2. :D

J

"Is that a Tiki in your pocket or are you just happy that 'Episode 37: The Music of 007 pt 2' is now available for download?"

(Jill St. John approves of this message)

Okay, that entire 007 series is BEYOND stellar! Bravo! You guys even inspired me to attempt to make "The Vesper Martini" tonight to enjoy with my Bond film pig out night.

When I went to pick up the Lillet, there were 2 kinds, a bland and a rouge. I went with the blanc. Here goes nothing. Thanks again for the awesome tunes, info, etc...

Cheers!

So glad you liked it!

The Blanc was the right choice.

Whew! Glad I chose wisely. Indeed that was a tasty drink, and a killer "2.5" episode Quiet Village series.

On a side note, a really strange thing I enjoy about the last decade of Bond films is the production company credits for United Artists at the beginning of some of the films:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCXu0vwQBjk

I don't know, for some reason, its really exciting, like its telling the audience the film thats about to start is going to be one heck of an adventure.

Cheers to Bond 23! Lets hope they rock it out!

Episode 41 now up! This time I did a full set of old Jackie Gleason albums. If you aren't familiar with the music of Jackie Gleason, just think "bear skin rug, champagne & a roaring fire" and you're there.

the last few podcasts have been some of my favorite. I enjoyed the bond ones but i prefer the ones with a more assortment of exotica.
