The place looks killer. Honored to be a part of it!! Thanks for the trade... I'd be interested in another one down the line!

Thanks to Tiki Magazine, Nick Camara and his brother Raland for photographing the South Pacific Room for the latest issue.

It was great to hang out with you guys and see all different photos featured in the last issue with Nick at the helm. End of an era.

We are privileged to count you among our friends.

It looks even better in person.

Congrats on making it in Tiki Magazine. The South Pacific Room is incredible. One of my favorite builds on here. :D

Your place looks great,Bet your glad its finished after all the hard work done, We came to your house a few years ago and it was cool then before the remodel

PP

How did I miss this in my top favorite tiki rooms?! very very cool, especially all your router work on the trim, I need to invest in a router!!!
Congrats on making the Tiki Magazine, I have that issue and go to it often!!! love love love your space!!!!

paul

It was a great photo layout of your Tikitastic pad!!!

I love all the photos of rooms, furniture and artwork but all of these tiki bars look better with people in them. Here are a few inside and outside shots at the South Pacific Room.

THANKS TO ALL Who have made this place come alive with freindship and warmth.
These Rooms/Bars are meant to bring LIFE to our LIVES. :)

AWESOME place MM.
And the party you throw every year looks great too.
We used to have smaller versions of what you throw but
man it's tons of work, and money.

Great Job!!

You are right Skip but we didnt build this to hang out in it by ourselves. Its worth all the smiling faces.

Awesome...

Wow, so many things to love about your build.

The router work is off the charts and your ceiling kicks Tiki Ass.

As most great room, best seen at night when your lighting kicks into play.

I salute you with an 15yr old El Dorado!

The exterior doors on the South Pacific Room had some very simple bamboo type shades that kept the sun out on hot days.
The problem is that they occupied a lot of wall space in a decorated room so they seem a bit blah.
I added some muslin (material) to the back of the shade to block more light but again still blah.

So today we took a vintage design and painted on the backside of the material. The result looks great when there is light outside (usually daytime)

For this photo I put a green bulb outside to capture the essence of it.

Enjoy

Great idea and executed very well.

A

Looks cool. You should put a permanent green light out there.

T

Awesome!

M

Been working on a Coffee Table for the South Pacific Room these past couple of weekends. Its still a work in progress.

Enjoy

Creating the plywood base and basic shape of the table

The hardwood top is made from 12 Separate pieces of Poplar.
I created a custom pattern and used a pattern bit to ensure that all parts are exactly the same shape and size.
The four quadrants are actually two pieces each because buying poplar 12 inches wide is really expensive.

More Pics to come as I make more progress...

Thanks for looking.

I have a feeling its going to be more of a Cocktail Table rather than a Coffee Table.

Derek,

That design is awesome. Can't wait to see how your going to stain or paint it, and what's going in the cut out area.

That's really nice and you're not even done yet!

T

Head exploding.

Awesome work. Good seeing you the other night at Bali Hai, too.

I like the alligator. Very elaborate table.

It was cool to see you, as TikiAno said.

Great craftsmanship. Can't wait to see the finished product.

A table to be proud of...Respect !!

Oh great, I have been practicing routing today and now feel like crap after looking at that work !

Very nice looking, I can see I need a new router, bits and most of the rest of my life to catch up.

Dtel, its not a competiton. All that matters is that you participate and a have a good time doing it.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will post more photos as I get closer to completion. Ive still got to design a base for it, paint and stain everything and finally get a piece of custom glass cut for the top.

Looking good. GROG has taught you well. :D

S

looks incredible, great job!

Table is done. Time for the next project.

That is an amazing piece of work! How did you attach the rope? Glue, nails or something else?

T

That is AWESOME!!!
Great job.
I see you got the Kahiki rum label in there, very cool.

Hey Skip. I must say that the knick knacks in the table would not have been possible without all of the interaction Ive had with other collectors like yourself. Ive amassed most of that stuff very slowly over years and years of trading, purchasing, finding... etc.

John,
The rope is hot glued with small finishing nails going through it.

EJ

That's really nice. Was it very difficult to bend the bamboo around the edges? Did you use steam? Thanks for sharing.

T

"Was it very difficult to bend the bamboo around the edges?"
I think it's rattan.
