I have seen that lower. So I don't know.
My dad put it best something is only worth what someone is willing to pay.
Here's other views of the candle holder.

Here is a Kahiki bowl. 9" diameter by 1 1/2" deep.

That candle holder was never used at the Kahiki. looks right, but Linda says no. I can see why. Easy to tip over. I was shocked that it is going for more than the vintage ashtray just went for. $77 is cheap for that ashtray which you can see on the table in the luau postcard. You just never know. Bid and hope.

Thats one thing I like about the Kahiki. They had A LOT of stuff.
I don't think we will ever see it all.
That is why i'm putting the ebay stuff here.

I just post the items I've never seen before, and as a fairly new collector there's quite a bit I've never seen :P

Some of the Kahiki stuff I take for granted because it's not super rare.
But some may not have seen or remember them.

They go for about one hundred dollars.
These were the one of the first mugs used by the Kahiki.
It is the Hoffman pottery moai mug,

I found two of those mugs cheap. just keep an eye out, they turn up.

Hey Ratzaroony, I was dead on. That mug you showed sold for $96.68.
With $5.00 bucks in shipping.

Here is a Columbus Dispatch insert done by the Kahiki
for the Sunday paper. It is eight pages front and back included.
The date on it is Sept 24 1961.
I think the first one pictured here is the older of the two.
Both have the same inside, With just a few differences.
Both Bill And Lee Henry said they tossed out boxes of these
and menus.

This menu was up on ebay. It was from 1964. I almost won the auction :(

Someone named Kohalacharms. They have an ooga-mooga profile, and a lot of tiki mugs, so at least it went to a serious collector :)

Ok, So this Kahiki thing just gets more and more weird.
I have a lot of Kahiki stuff. I got it by being at the right place
at the right time. Luck? Karma? Who knows.
But last week I was in the Columbus Dispatch in an article about the Kahiki by Joe Blundo.
The writer of that article calls me up to give me the name of a guy
who has some Kahiki items. He worked there from the start.
So I call this guy and we start talking (he has no Kahiki stuff by the way)
This guy was one of the people that made the lights, ashtrays,
AND get this the lamps that were on the tables.
I had just got back from a mold making place buying stuff to make THOSE lamps!
Will meet with this guy in the next week.
Then will know the rest of the story.

Well the silk screens for the shades.
I just finished them.
Next I mold the base.

In creating tiki, (other cratfs) as that's where this should be.

Here I give you Herman L. Leitwein.
Mr. Leitwein was the commercial contractor
who built the Kahiki.
He also built the Grass Shack, Top of the Isle,
And the Desert inn in Columbus Ohio.
As well as all of the Hustler clubs.
He had A LOT to say about the Kahiki.
We are going to meet in a few weeks
with another Kahiki worker with Mr. Leitwein.
Will let you know how that goes.

Mr. Leitwein said that the fire fish were at one time made of plywood.
They were coated with resin.
So those may be out there somewhere.
He also stated that the Kahiki people DID go to the Mai Kai to
get/steal ideas.
Herman also talked about how the bamboo they got would pop like
a gun when it dried and split in the Kahiki.
Also that at least two snakes came out of that bamboo after
this happened.

Mr. Leitweins wife passed away four years ago.
The photo is form the South Pacific Polynesian restaurant.
Also shown is the first mystery girl seen by the fireplace
with the old style painting.
Last is a Rose chemical co ad.

Awesome! I love hearing these stories. As for the bowl, I have no clue. I've never seen it before.

I did some searching and found that bowl on page 81 of Tiki Quest. It's from Trader Vic's. I guess it's possible the Kahiki used them as well.

The Kahiki is gone, but people like you keep it alive by telling
others about it.
Who knows you may be the next Trader vic. Or you may inspire
someone else to be the next great thing in tiki.

That bowl does not have Trader Vic on it.
It is a Tepco bowl.
Sounds like these guys went all over the world looking for tiki
stuff and just brought it back to Columbus Ohio.
This may have been one of those things.

Sorry about the misinformation. I got fooled by the designs. The Trader Vic's bowl (http://www.ooga-mooga.com/cgi-bin/all/mug.cgi?mode=view&mug_id=933&ind_mug_id=1881) seems to use the same design as the Tepco bowl (http://www.ooga-mooga.com/cgi-bin/all/mug.cgi?mode=view&mug_id=1713)

I think that is the same style bowl. It just does not have Trader Vic's on it.

Mr. Leitwein also told me that Majestic paint made a custom color, a color made just for the Kahiki.
It was called Kahiki brown. what else.
Don't know if that color is still around.
I think Porter paints bought Majestic.
Herman also said that the Kahiki used to have live palm trees everywhere
and tropical plants as well, all live!
They would last about one year then they would need to be replaced.
Mr Sapp once told me that a customer would always bug him to let him supply
the banana leaves they used at the Kahiki. (he had a large home garden)
Bill finally gave in and told him to ask Sondro for an order.
Well when Sondro said we need one TRUCK load a month the guy gave up.
