Put the new piece on hold today

Needed to make a lil sumptin

Black Limba

Common Name(s): Limba, Black Limba, White Limba, Korina, Afara

Distribution: Tropical Western Africa

Tree Size: 65-100 ft tall, 5-7 ft trunk diameter

Color/Appearance: Heartwood is a light yellowish to golden brown,
sometimes with grey to nearly black streaks and veins.
Wood with such darker figuring is referred to as Black Limba,
while plain unfigured wood is called White Limba.
Sapwood is a pale greyish to yellowish brown,
not clearly demarcated from the heartwood.
Color tends to darken with age.

Wow so much has gone on since I last checked. Love the wall display. You have a man cave in the garage like Dan.
Are you making a walking stick with that long piece? The face is great.
The guitar pick holder is so cool? That's a terrific way to display them. I never knew these picks existed.
I'm going to look for some when we next go to Oahu.

Wendy

PS I just showed Dan all your photos and he also did a WOW

Great piece of wood

Spalted Maple

Much like Ambrosia Maple and other forms of figured maple,
Spalted Maple is technically not a specific species of Maple,
but rather a general description of any type of Maple that has been
allowed to begin initial stages of decay, and then subsequently
dried (preventing further decay).
The partial decay, called spalting, gives the wood dark contrasting
lines and streaks where fungus has begun to attack the wood.

That's looking mighty fine! Is that all carved with woodworking chisels or do you use routers? My brother gave me a set of Solingers a number of years ago, but I boxed them up to make room for a project and now can't remember where I squirreled them away!
