Great start H10!

I took a photo of Dan's shirt and printed it. Now his shirt has been returned to the closet. This will be my inspiration for the painting.

Good job hang10tiki, Wendy

Cy- thanx Bruddah, what's in the works on Frog island?

Wendy- thanx, great print

Sanded

T

Jon, the new frame looks awesome, great job. I could use a few frames for the home bar. I'll send you the sizes... :)

Wendy, I dig that shirt, haven't seen that print before... and I like it.

MaukaHale, great design, think the painting looks great. I'm using a similar design for the Tiki Shirt mug- first I drew out a bunch of plumeria (in pencil) around the mug....

I let it dry out for a few days (to get it leather hard), then added buttons, then let it dry a few more days. Finally I started carving using a scribe tool. It takes time, but after a few passes I got it where I thought it should be. The "pattern" is supposed to be disjointed. This is the slab built mug- I actually prefer this design over the wheel thrown one. Both will be glazed, but I'd rather use one that I built myself for the Art Swap. It's a bit taller- you can watch progress on the wheel thrown one on my thread or on instagram, I suppose.

It's drying up a bit more, and it'll go into the kiln to be bisque fired. Then it'll be glazing-time. Which is never fun. The hard part is whether or not to go over the top with different colors, or keep it a bit less "loud."

Looking forward to seeing everyone else's progress!

I like loud Hawaiian Shirts. I like that the dip in the front would be a good place for a straw to lean. Those are so darn cute. Wendy

Ano- :)
Diggin da mug bra

Here's my ticket to this party.
My submission starts with,
a hand carved, tan skinned, mannequin.
Sporting,
a well worn, basic style, Hawaiian shirt.
[I wore it well as it was one of my faves.]
Featuring,
my very first, hand carved, palm frond,
hemp cord strung, pendant.

Mike!

Looks like I will be in on this swap... Everything is looking awesome already!

Last swap I was inadvertently left out of the partner draw so my kids got my painting. This time I'm really looking forward to swapping!

Hmmm... creative juices are flowing.

Peace,
Jason <

Very cool bamboo lettering Hang 10 Tiki. You know you stole the name from hang10tiki. Wendy

:)

The stage is set
1 more step to go.......

Nice Jon! I was hoping to work on mine today but instead I'm putting up Christmas decorations :(

I was going to work on my project today as well but putting up Christmas decorations seems to have prevailed.

Here's how much I got done today. Maybe more tomorrow.

You guys are all so cute. I did our decorations weeks ago but I still need to start my painting.
Good job hang10tiki, Wendy

Can't wait to see what you guys do

DONE
:)

No flash and flash photos

WC

Well done.
Breath deep.

hang10tiki that's terrific. What a great idea.

I worked on my submission yesterday. Copying is so much harder than just painting. I made mistakes which I'm posting on my thread. Where I left off works for this page.

On the left is the photo I took of the shirt. On the right is my painting forgery!

Cheers, Wendy

Nice Jon, that would look great in my bar. Wendy I can't tell the difference between shirt and painting, well done!

Will, Wendy, CY - thanks :)

Wendy- what CY said, looks the same to me
Perfect color match
Wow, awesome.....

M

Wendy, That shirt would look really cool as a black light painting!

Progress Report

I could have sworn I posted here last night - what happened to it?!
Jon looks great - you are way ahead of the game!
Wendy beautiful! Yes you are right, it is much harder to copy something
MH at least you are making progress, here's my progress shot;

That is my styrofoam shirt blank on top of a huge pile of junk that separates me from art

MadDogMike you have a nice set of tools. After being hit in the eye by a log I hope you'll be more careful here. Wendy

I am still stumped and uninspired!!

Tom the problem with carving is that pesky safety issue. Otherwise I would recommend you put on a Hawaiian shirt, grab a piece of wood and your tools, and drink until inspiration hits you or you pass out

MaukaHale- can't wait
MadDog- :)
AlohaStation- I have a feeling Mike will soon give u good advice
MadDog- good advice

A true artist is not one who is inspired, but one who inspires others.”
–Salvador Dali.

I have learned to appreciate that quote.

T

Jon, looks great. Cool plan and well executed.

Wendy, I think I prefer your version? Is that bad?

Mike, "Safety is no accident." Other than that, all bets are off! Wendy, please pretend you didn't read that. :)

Looking forward to seeing everyone else's progress! We still have a lot of time to go, so hope more will jump on in!

Tiki Ano so good to see you pop up here. I'm glad you prefer a the forgery because you could end up my swap partner. However I've swapped with CY twice and 3 times the charm???

I worked all day making mistakes and re-doing the painting. I could still tweak the flower and then move on.

So far this painting has required this many tubes of paint colors.

Then I had to mix them to the right hue. Did I use that word correctly?

At the end of the day.

I didn't notice that there were so many colors when I picked this shirt. It's a challenge. Wendy

Wendy
Love the colors
Send to Vegas when done :)

Thank you, and good night!

Looks great Wendy, I am hoping the third time's the charm!

Thank you men.

It's taking too much time to make it a perfect match. I'm going for very similar.

I got this far yesterday. There is a lot left to do on this section but it's starting to come together.

It's fun to be in another swap.

Cheers, Wendy
