that stuff is just amazing, TikiSkip. i love the bar and grill pieces, but it's the lamps that hit a special spot for me. what kind of price range do they span? i would like a couple pretty soon for my outdoor bar. again- awesome stuff!

I do sell my stuff. But most of it never leaves Ohio.
It either goes to the Tropical Bistro, Or largos.
The guy who owns Largos is an old friend.
And the Bistro guys pay some cash mixed with egg rolls and booze.

if I have them or can make them.
Most of the lights I make are made from old stuff.
Thats why they look old.They are.
But that also means I can't crank out ten of the same light.
The prices range from $27.00 and up.
It depends on the time it takes to make/cost.
Thats why I have not sold any of the straw holders.
They take a long time to make.

Here's a new one. Coconut front desk bell.

This would be the bell you would ring for a bell hop
to come get your bags.
It really rings!

Dude, that bell is awesome. It gives me a whole new perspective on the one that I put on my desk for some strange reason.

I found them at a flea market. Four 4 a buck.

Tikiskip you've inspired me to try and make a few lamps.

I took your advice and collected a few cheap items laying around the house and at garage sales. Here is what I came up with.

I don't think I have more than $10 in materials for any one lamp.

Here are two things That will help you.
First, A mini torch. And Amber shellac. My wife got me this torch for xmas
and I have not used it in the kitchen yet. Its great for lamps though.
Practice on scrap wood/ bamboo. Just a light burn. Then shellac.
the last pic shows wangi bamboo. #1 no burn/ shelac. #2 just burn.
#3 just shelac. #4 burn And shellac perfect! See how the nodes pop.
Plus makes it look old.

Thanks formaking so many wonderful things! Favorites are the Tiki Rain Lamp (with the hot oil drips-I've seen Virgin Mary /Roman statue/and Landscape with windmill Rain Lamps,but never a Tiki One! Right on! Cool pool table Lamp as well!

Ok, Here we go from tiny to large.
On this one the hat was made by me from rattan.
The basket was a found object.

Ok I got this chair at a flea market the other day. I always wanted one but
they cost a bunch. Till I saw this one it was trashed but it was cheap 8 bucks.
So here it is.
I will show the transformation as I go.

First take off all of the binder cane.
Take pictures of how it was so you can remember how it went on.

Tikiskip, your work is super and inspiring. I’m thinking about getting that book. I would have thought that hanging rattan chair was beyond repair. Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

This is my first chair like this.

Brush off all of the dirt on the chair.

It will look like this after.

Now pick a torch and flame it lightly. On ALL sides
No need to flame the parts that will be covered with binder.

It will look like this after the flaming. Don't burn it up.
Just a light touch will make the bleached out white look go away.
I tried sanding and steel wool. These did not help so for me this
was the best way.

Next shellac the whole chair. Even the parts that will be covered with binder cane.
This will help keep water/mold out. And give it a nice glow.

This is the binder cane. ie rattan. This is the skin on kind.
Some may have this skin taken off. I used one hank for this chair.
It cost about $22.00 for the cane.

Now you need to soak the binder cane in water. Put some liquid soap in the water to
help the cane stay limp while you work it. You better work it girl.

Nice work on the chair and great step by step instructions. I have alot of great rattan needing rehab. and I'm sure to use ths info. down the line.

Hey Matt. I have never heard it called that I don't know.
sneaky, I would not do this to 6 band rattan unless it was trash.

This is old, And has been outside for a while so I don't think this will be used as a chair. More like for looks.

Aright cracker start rapin. It is best to pick out the longest cane in your bundle to go down the back of your chair so you don't need to put two pieces together.
First nail in the rattan. then start putting it on the way it came off. Overlap nails with the cane/ rattan to hide them.

Remember when you wrap this stuff if you go say right left right on one side.
You then need to go right left right on the other side.
ie keep it all the same, uniform nice and neat.
This is the hard part keeping it uniform.

When you have all of the cane on Let the cane dry 24 hours.
Then start flaming the cane.
This is where you could start a fire. be ready to blow it out.

I'm definitely not doing it to my 6 band rattan set. I have alot of stuff I haven't shown on TC. A really nice machine age deco rattan desk I'm typing at now and a round table and a chair that came with the desk. They all were in good shape but had brown thick paint slathered on. I'll use some of the techniques here but don't worry, I wont use the burner... For that chair it looks awesome though!

Here is a picture of the cane shellaced with no burn, and one with
shellac and the burn. You need to try a small piece on the bottom
of your chair to see what you like best.
on this chair I tihnk the burn blends in better.

Good stuff. Maybe I can repair the peacock chairs we have instead of getting new ones... Well, if I find them for $20 again, it ain't worth the work. I never knew repairing these was possible.

I have a rattan swivel shair that meeds soem touch up. I think I may have to use your instructions for my first attempt at this.

One thing to remember is that this cane can be used to
finish off the ends of your bar tops, shelves and other parts
of your tiki bar.

Here's a new one. I work on three lights at a time so when things dry
or I just get tired of what i'm doing I can mix it up.





This would also make a really cool microphone stand.
Without the lights.

The bamboo twist knobs are great.

That lamp is great, I love the idea behind it.
