McTiki

Nice job! Those are some nice cuts .... Band saw?

McTiki- Thanx. Fun stuff. Not sure if I'm going to stain the outside of the Moai or leave it natural then gloss it...ideas?!?!

Captan- Thanx. Yep, a friend of mine has a band saw. Wow, what a difference when ya cut flat stuff with a real saw...

M

I would use a clear semi or satin gloss that has no amber in it. The wood is purdy all by itself.

Mahalo

McTiki

McTiki- thanks...first coat is a dryin...

Hi,

I recently came back around here and while checking so many posts, I have to say that your version of the moai face on the log (prior to your last piece) is f.... brilliant, the use of the material and what you achieve with the apparent simple carving. Woaw man, it's just superb. Congratulations

P

nice!

I like it!

Getting better all the time Hang10.....keep it up.

Atomic- wife will never notice the missing paint, LOL...
Cljha- Glad you like the Moai, fun and quick...
5150- thanks bruddah...

Great job Hang10, the finish looks fab!

thanx cy

clean up has started...

harry bastard...
and it's freekin hot out

I'm still drawing up the face for root-ball man

so I started this lil guy to get some wood chips flyin...

Hi hang10tiki, how to your hold the wood while chipping away? That's a cool root ball for the head of your next big tiki. Wendy

M

the big one deserves time.

Pele turned out spot on!

Watching the little guy now.

Mahalo for sharing!

McTiki

Nice start on that marq! I'm no expert, but make sure that root is not too young/too short .... I snagged a truckload once and then Bill Collins (4WDtiki) informed me that they were junk ....

if it has these splits on the bottom it is too young/short and will dry up to crap in a while .... I had 6 of them like this ... carved them anyway and one has already deteriorated to the tiki gods and the rest look like dried up prunes!

hopefully, it is a good log and you get a great tiki out of it!

Have a Great Day!

Wendy- this is the first one im making with an electric chisel, so tiki in one hand and chisel in the other.
McTiki- thanx for lookin
Capt Jack- no cracks in this one but it is still wet, time will tell

update:

Getting better all the time!

ATP- thanks

dudes gettin some sun to help dry the 1st coat of the shiny stuff...

done...

still letting the root ball dry out so started

cleaning this 19 inch palm (12 inches across) today in 100 plus heat

That's a clean looking piece of palm Hang10 but I would start carving on that cool growth behind it instead. :)

That RED crap tree?
That wood sucks...
Takes a jackhammer to remove the bark
And the wood is like concrete.
I don't have a CY tool (chainsaw)
That crap bends chisels.
Next time your in Vegas I'll get u some and you can have at it.
I know you would make some kool lookin Cy tiki out if it...
See u broski...

hang10tiki he turned out great I love that you went deep enough to reach the darker center wood. Wendy

Thanx Wendy, glad u like.
I just wish I had your energy!
Thanks for the reply to my PM,
I'll be starting my next Wendy approved project tomorrow. :)
Pics soon

Your Pele turned out really great...keep em coming!!!

Thanks Vamp, made Pele for the MadDogMike Pele/fire swap. Glad u like.

Wendy gave me permission to TRY and make the "WAR GOD"
so here we go...
