My ESP says the new bar looks killer!!!

Thanks, Ben! Here it is. Lotsa work redesigning it. I loved the tiki modern version that we created with Ben, but it was time for a change. I wanted something more traditional.

And! I also picked up a Leroy Schmaltz-carved tiki this weekend! I was honored to even be able to have the opportunity to purchase this guy. He was carved for one of Leroy's past art shows and sat in a private collection until now.

Dang! You have a lotta crap! Ha. Just kidding. Love it all! Question on that step up to the front of the bar area....do people trip on that constantly? Especially since it's an irregular shape? And when's the next set of photo shoot pictures coming? New bar = new pictures, right?

I haven't really had anyone trip on it yet. It's rounded, so I think that helps...
And yes, there is a photo shoot already scheduled. Stay tuned!

Lots going on in The Breezeway, recently...

The other day, I hung a lamp that I built last summer.

And pinup shoots!

And most recently the 4th of July with (among others)

Lost in Paradise's Chris Bonomo

and tiki bartender, Kelly Merrill, juicing grapefruit

Now that's my cup of Tea! Looks awesome!

I like the polynesian look as well as the accessories with the swimsuits!

I came across this bar for sale last weekend. I was ecstatic to finally have an opportunity to buy a Witco bar! And the price was incredible.

It was a journey to go get it. Take a look at the video that I put together about the whole experience: http://thehulagirls.blogspot.com/2016/07/a-look-at-our-home-bar-breezeway-and.html

That's so rad, I lived in that pad 7 years ago. I tried to buy it when it short sold but didn't get it. great work.

Wow, yeah, I remember seeing some tiki stuff in the living room when I was walking through!

Some new decor in the Breezeway!
Found myself a bunch of barrels recently.

Made a new lamp out of a lobster trap too!

Just when you think you're 'finished' with building your bar, another incredible estate sale pops up and makes you build more to accommodate the new stuff!

Isn't wonderful that building a tiki bar is ongoing.

I just found an estate sale with a TON of Oceanic art... Now I gotta find a place to fit all of it!

And ANOTHER nautical estate sale...! I can't believe my luck lately. The Breezeway has transformed over the years from a sparsely decorated 'tiki modern' space to a totally crammed with decor, fairly authentic 1950's/ early '60s kinda thing.

Here are some recent photos...

And a recent photoshoot with Australian sideshow performer, Leopard Lass.

Holy Crap...Awesome hauls and a Sweet Space. Thanks for the pics.

You really know how to score!

Damn son, that is a pair of amazing hauls.

Just my opinion but I really prefer your new more traditional route over the earlier mid-century one. (Not that the mid-century vibe wasn't pretty damn stellar.)

I agree, CosmoReverb. The new, more traditional version is way cooler.

Spike, you got too much stuff! Store some at my house.
Looks great! Keep posting

Haha... Thanks

Just checking back in to see how things were going and just wow! Really great look and nice finds.

BTW don't know if you would find these retro reproductions sacrilege or not but when I saw this site today I thought of you and thought some of the cigarette cases (not that I'm promoting smoking or filling them with cigarettes either) might look nice on your bar area. Check out Retroagogo.com if you're not familiar with them. My favorite would be the Zombie Hut one.

Have you done any more work on your backyard? Love to see more photos if so.

From this weekend. Astro, standing guard at the edge of the Breezeway Lagoon, with a tiki that I carved last summer...

Polynesia, I'm not crazy about repro or retro stuff, but the ones on that site look pretty cool. My buddy gave me a tin of Hula Girl cigarillos, so I think the tin is still in the Breezeway somewhere. Not sure, I know I smoked them all up though.

M

That is a really nice shot of your water feature volcano.

Found some new stuff this weekend.

A couple of twins, flanking my 1963 Trader Vic's Fog Cutter mug...

And a new blunt dagger in the center of my 'wall of death'.
Also pictured are 4 primitive spears from the 1940s and two headhunter forks (supposedly for eating brain. Yikes.).

H

Love it.

If you already follow The Hula Girls, you may have seen these photos on Instagram. We are on there @thehulagirls
Otherwise, enjoy!

Some new additions to The Breezeway. I covered a window into my kitchen with this vintage porthole. Kinda looks bad from inside the kitchen, but that isn't what counts, is it?

From the other night, enjoying a Kapu Kai in the hot tub...

Also almost finished with the most ridiculously elaborate lamp that I have ever created. This is the bottom... I still need to wire it and find something for the top... Made from shells and a ship's wheel clock 'frame' that I found at a recent estate sale. You can see a giant shell lamp in the photo above, that I'm working on too... Don't know what I'm gonna do with that yet, it's way bigger than I expected and real, real heavy.

Wow, it all looks incredible!

Your insanity manifests itself in the most magnificent of ways! The Breezeway's a real inspiration to me!

I also have a circular window that would be a good place for a porthole. It looks halfway there as it is. Only trouble is, it's a bit larger than commonly available portholes, be they salvage or cheap knockoffs. Hmm.

Spike, I don't keep up with all the home bars builds but that "floating bar" is AWESOME!!!!! (the models are beautiful too you lucky dog  )

I don't know how you do it but you have all the fun!

I have been working as the Sr Graphic Designer and studio photographer for Hyundai Design North America for a little over a year now. I was able to bring my work camera home last night, so I snapped a few photos with it... Hope you dig.

Just over the top awesomeness. I have a cannibal fork so glad to see someone else has their displayed.

Your decor is very inspirational...thanks for posting such great pictures.

Thanks!

You definitely keep this thread interesting!

Jungle Beach Party! - First new full length record by The Hula Girls in 7 years!
I can't believe our second record is finally finished. I promise the third won't take as long.
Can't wait for you all to hear the Jungle Beach Party!

I added all kinds of new merch too!

Jungle Beach Party Mai Tai glasses! In the tradition of the vintage Suck Um Up and Don Ho glasses, we decided to produce some of our own. Album track listing on the opposite side. And yes, this is a standard 'double-bucket' sized Mai Tai glass (though the lens on my camera makes it look thimble sized).

Aaaand a while back, at an estate sale, I came up on some vintage tiki necklace molds. I've only made 100 of these red ones in celebration of our new record, Jungle Beach Party. When they're gone, I mean they're really gone, man.

The bar looks so good. Those lighting fixtures are insane. Did you make most of them yourself? I remember you posting one or two of them a while back. You should make some to sell at Oasis.

I did make most of them myself! I love the idea of selling some at TO, but I just don't have the time to do that right now.

Tea in The Breezeway

Absolutely beautiful! (I'm talking about the setting, not the model - I'm a married man and not allowed to comment on the beauty of other women  )

I sure like it when you post your pin-ups. I wish I had some of my own.

Impressive as always, Spike! I'm envious of your weather--this winter has had the audacity to actually be cold and has driven us inside for extended periods. Haven't gotten to enjoy our bar much at all!
