B

JE-Rome,,, You Don't Disappoint ,,, At All.. Awesome stuff yo have in the works and even finished some.

Great update on your activities Jerome....really wonderful work. Nice variety
and the adze is really nice. A treat to see your post.

T

Wow Jerome, I've been missing out! There's so much great stuff going on in your shop. I love the owl - brilliant idea. I like seeing how you have all the tikis blocked out on your bench. Are you hand cutting those or using a band saw?

That skull-nut ring is sweeeeeeet!! very cool

Great job on the toki/adze too, nice to know the old forms are still being used, Im assuming its a working tool? A no-nonsense tool anyway! If you ever want to make an ornamental model with traditional nephrite/pounamu blade Im happy to help.

Jerome - I'd like to tell you which one is my favorite...but they are all so good I cannot decide. Not only talent but prolific talent.

L

Hello Tiki Central! The Fall update!

-Thank's to you Will. If my thread is a treat for you, your's is no less! Thank you sir!

-Don't be speechless Hiltiki...

-Thank's Marcus, I've appreciate the comp!

-Hi Créative Chimp! Just woke me too... Thank's for stopping by!

-Thank you much Amate! Sure, it's hard to choose when there are much ... myself I can not what to say. This time there are less:

First, marquisian in larch

Humm..maybe rework a larger mouth...

No finishing on this one. I'll let the winter wind, rain, sun and snow probably give it a patina "antique".
I will take pictures regularly to see the evolution of one year.

Then, a walnut warclub Wahaika:

Just linseed oil for finishing.

The consumerist fisher god:

Willow, bamboo cane...

... thuja burl matau and tin of fish soup

in fact, it's a lamp:

That's all for the moment.

Next project on the bench with some bone stuff:

An adze/Toki with a pounamou blade...

...carved by Tamapoutini!

I hope that I would be at level of the beauty of this stone.

Have a nice day!

Jérôme.

V

great idea ! That fisherman's lamp is awesome ! Classic french soup can makes a great effect.
And I love the Marq too. Way to go mein tiki bruder !

That's just too good. Do you thin the linseed oil or use it full strenght?

Admittedly my chizzling experience is very limited but Im pretty sure that blade should be hafted the other way around? (top/bottom, understand?) Hope I havent created an unusable tool in my ignorance..

Love the fish soup lamp, great idea. So many projects!

B

Jerome, Master carver in disguise, Totally Excellent works my friend, and I am So Happyhappyhappy to see you creating so much from the Ancient Maori arts. our Marq's are excellent too as are most all your pieces.
It's hard for me to tell which way the adz is facing in Tamma's question but the Sharpened bevel side is the one which should be striking the wood first as in a normal chisel and it does make a big difference if it is hafted upside down so make sure you get it right-side-up, which I'm sure you will.
Just plain NICE Stuff!
When you coming to Florida (and get some sand in your shoes), you never answered????

C

Hey Jerome amazing new ones! that oak "God of Fortune" is my favorite, incredible skills you have.

L

Very busy season... Hi Tiki Central! Some news from France!

-Thank you Virani! Back from Aotearoa? Post the pics! :o :o :o

-Also thank you JohnCC! Lot of fun to realise this fisherman lamp!
I apologize, no (goods) pics of my preferred Sépik figure... :-? The weather is really bad for weeks and the tapestry behind my desk (refection soon) does not do justice to the sculpture. The first ray of sunshine, I will bring him to an iconic place in my town for a nice picture.

-Thank you Hiltiki, I appreciate the comp'!

-I'm not so young as I seem... Thank you CY!

-Amate hello! I thins linseed oil, by heating, so that it penetrates deep into the woods. I read in an old book that piece of equipment mills (wood) was boiled in linseed oil, which gave them an increased hardness and wear life so much longer. For Wahaika, I polished it when the oil dryed.

-I see very well what you mean Tama ... I asked as long, turning the blade in all directions. The documents I found on the adzes are very imprecise. But in a logical way, in the direction of the cutting, it's true that the concave part has to come against the handle.
Few week ago, we went to see the exhibition "Maori" at the Quai Branly Museum. There I could see, besides the magnificent works of art, tools of great delicacy and all of beauty. The exhibition is very complete, with many works of Te Papa Museum and many explanations of the struggles of the Maori people for their cultural and political identity (Treaty of Waitangi, ect ...). I really learned a lot at the exhibition.

-Wow! Much of compliment from you Sensei carver! Thank's a lot! HappyHappyHappy me too!!!
I think I solved the direction for the adze, I would start after the holidays ...
Me in Florida? One day soon I hope not just for sand in the shoes! :P :P :P

-Hey Clarita! Good to hear you! What's news in the bamboo world?
Thank's for the comp'! The oak god of fortune is actually in a cool restaurant in a seaside town, I recommend!

Not much this time, really not much time to sculpture ...

The Wahaika on the previous page finally finished

Engraved amaranth and polycarbonate pedestal:

A poplar Moai, finished in time for a X-mas gift:

And a pair of twist bone ear pendant:

Also a gift for X-mas...

That's all for this year!
Happy Christmas and New year to all!

And if you go through La Rochelle at the end of the year, come see us:

Have a nice day!
Jérôme.

Jerome,
This guy's sweet.

I'm here in Florida waiting too.
