See you tommorow at Trader Vic's!

Great job as usual Conga! I can't wait for spring either. It just isn't the same carving in the basement. Keep it up.

He sort of reminds me of a tiki lucha.

Hi Ben and Finkdaddy....Thanks for your
comments...Finkdaddy the only part that
really looks like your "computer"
mask is the nose...I fell in love with
the tongue-shaped nose the first time I
saw it!

Hey conga thats great looking! Jez, I've been stumbling along for most of the winter trying to make some molding strips like that. hats off you you! I don't think my tries will ever be good enough to use.

What size/species of wood did you use for that 7 footer? Is it a Redwood or just a Redwood stain on another type of wood?

R

Wow, That guy is tall. Very nice . Is there going to be another for the other side of the fireplace?
Keep them pics commin..

I love the detail, "Conga Style". Your work is getting better and better with each piece. Yes, & I'm curious about the stain also.

C
congatiki posted on 03/12/2005

Thanks everyone...really appreciate the
comments...I am always inspired by the
work you guys post.
It's a hunk of pine...5 1/2 inches wide
by 4 inches...kind of a wierd size but it
was left over from the construction of my
fireplace...and I used cherrywood stain...
with several coats of poly. It's just sitting next to the fireplace but will find
a home amid the already crowded congatiki
room...there are several pieces from tc
members...and hopefully many many more to
come! Thanks again!

C

thanks rodeo...finkdaddy...and lakesurfer...
appreciate the comments...especially
since you guys are doing such great
stuff....will definitely get to Milwaukee
when the new tiki bar opens up...cocktails
will be in order!
Also...thanks Rodeo for the remarks on the
congatiki room...it's a big room at the
back of my detached garage...we went with
all pine walls and ceiling...so I'm gradually darkening things up a little bit..
primarily with decorations and clutter.
I believe that more is better when it comes
to stuff to look at!

Very Cool room and decor, Congatiki! Thanks for posting. I'm glad your creation never saw the burn pile!

F
finkdaddy posted on 04/27/2005

Conga, everything there looks so, so nice. I like the new guy, he is quite an impressive door gaurdian. I will make it a point to visit.

I know what Antigo is like. Is it hard for your neighbors to accept your tikiness?

Also, where did you get your tappa cloth?

B
Benzart posted on 04/27/2005

Nice one Congatiki. I'm glad it never made it to the burn pile too! Sam's right, excellent decor, looks great on the wall.

C
congatiki posted on 04/27/2005

Thanks everyone...your comments make me
happy happy happy.....a couple of pics
are fairly dark but there is a Sam Gambino
conga playing tiki print just to the upper
right of Pearl of Wisdom...Finkdaddy the
tapa is the corrugated tapa roll that
someone mentioned in an earlier post...works
pretty well for the back wall...and I am
saving room to display something from
Finkdaddy and Benzart...keep me on that
list Ben!
Funny note...as you could suspect..a
lot of drumming has taken place in the
congatiki room...and the neighbors have
actually said they love it..except I get
blamed when it rains a lot!

T

C

are carved into the wood....stained...and

Cool monkey Conga. It would be really Neat to have your own monkey to serve you your drinks and snacks. As long as he didn't taste the stuff and get wasted that is...
Nice work.

F
finkdaddy posted on 05/01/2005

Yippy!!! That is so cool! I can't wait to see him on my tiki bar wall. Wish you could come to Exotica, you will be missed.

I love how proud and confident the monkey looks. I'd let him serve drinks in my bar anytime!

Mahalo, I will talk to you soon.

C
congatiki posted on 05/01/2005

thanks Ben and Finkdaddy....Glad you like
the painting Finkster....I will be honored
to have it on display at the Finkdaddy bar.
Wouldn't it be great...like Ben said...to have
one of those little guys to serve drinks...
but he would probably gnaw my leg off after
I passed out.

R
Raffertiki posted on 05/18/2005

Looking good, Conga. What are you going to do with a 9 foot tiki?

C
congatiki posted on 05/18/2005

thanks rodeotiki and raffertiki...he is a
big'un...takes two men and a small boy to
move him around on the workbench..actually
it's going to be trimmed to about 8 feet and
be a floor to ceiling tiki in the congatiki
room...I am planning on making it part of
a larger bar. many hours of work to go.
just started sanding...seems to take around
an hour to clean up four to six inches.

B
Benzart posted on 05/18/2005

yep, that's a big'un for sure. I can already see the conga personality coming thru. This will be very interesting to watch throught the creation. Thanks for sharing and keep us posted.

F
finkdaddy posted on 05/18/2005

Well, it's goin. I'm putting in a bedroom as well as my bar, and I promised everyone that the bedroom would be finished before I start the bar. The bedroom is going up nicely, so I'm hoping to frame in the bar in the next couple of weeks. I'll show plenty of pics when it happens.
