surfintiki Ya I thought the same thing Mike, spalting, not. That sounds too romantic. Keylo, This wood is mahogany. Real different from I finished it with rub on poly. So after 2 practice swings I'm ready to get these |

Definitely some gnarly Lonos there! Nice unique style! Good work on the legs ... it's tough for me to get symmetry on the same tiki! To duplicate the same look on multiple sticks is impressive! |

One of things that Will and I discuss all the time (during Happy Hour) - is how people underestimate the strength of wood. Wood is very strong and is a material that humans have been trying to simulate for years - it is more resiliant than you may think. The really difficult thing is allowing your creative vision to dictate how you use the wood not the shape of the wood. There are times when the shape may accent the overall design (I know I'm very guilty of that), but to create a carving that looks nothing like a log is challenging. Carve Deep!!! |
