W :o W
That's just nuts!!! How long is it? Has Cy been shipping you some timber? :)

P

damn...

I could fidget with this for 100 more hours & not be done.
Here it is
The Tangoroa Race team.
Sporting,
A 7 foot, rose wood, 11 man, 9 THP race canoe.
Featuring, .......................[Tang horse power]
a drummer to keep them on the beat
a tiller man to keep them straight.
And the 9 man team of Tangorowers.

There's one more thing about them.
I can't seem to show you here, but
all 12 heads, well, they're all bobble heads.

H

This should go in a museum. Most excellent sir. Uhm... can I have it??? :):) :)

OMG............

That's it
I quit
:)

Awesome......

(speechlessly amazed!)

If that's not inspirational, I don't know what is. That's just plain awesome.

D

You....I....uh....that....uh.....

thump (falls over stunned)

We can all tell you devoted a large chunk of your life on this one Will, EXCEPTIONAL!!

P

holy. shit.

Did anyone catch that last part - THEY ARE ALL BOBBLEHEADS!! Having watched as this has progressed, you just can't imagine the amount of work that went into this. It is carved from one log, with many of the pieces carved against the grain. It is completely overwhelming when you see it live. Well done, sir!! Sssoooo - whats next?

S

That is seriously amazing. Just saw all their heads bobbling on Facebook. Incredible work Will.

Well, isn't that something! It's been a looooong time since we've seen anything with this level of dedication and....probably craziness :)
Fabulous carving...where you gonna put it?

Like some of the other comments...maybe time for me to take up knitting.

A Hall of Fame effort. I suspect this is a carving that folks will be talking about and remember for a long, long time. At least anyone that has ever picked up a mallet and chisel. Bobbleheads! LOVE IT!!!!

T

Yeah this is just epic!
Great! Great! job.

Love the way the heads are from the same cut of wood.
Then the bodies are from another cut but still they too are cut from their own log
one after the other.

I'm guessing that's how you got that same variations in the wood.
Very thoughtful.

Cool video--thanks for posting.
Nice sound to it---sorta like a very large percussion instrument.

I can't thank every one enough that can see
how much work went into that canoe and took
a moment to comment on it. Stuff like that makes
the world go a round.
So I'm doing a few fronds for friends. They go quick &
I can try new things with out worrying about
screwing up an 8 ft. log.

N

Nice! You are my Hero

Very cool and stylish Will!

Very Benzart-esque

So Will, you are saying these fronds are just mindless child's play for you? Looks pretty damned good to me!

Mike,
I'd like to be so cavalier but as some say here
"practice makes perfect"
For example,
Aren't you glad I didn't do this on
an 8 ft. log.

N

SUPER!!

Hey Will, I've been admiring your canoe for a while now and I must ask, what inspired such a mammoth undertaking? What was it that sparked your drive to complete such huge endeavor? Amazing work my friend...

Texas T, that's a good question.
I started that in Aug.
Got a rash from it in Sept. lost a month carving.
Finished up in Feb with 400 hrs in it.
I like to push the envelope when ever I can &
I can see long complicated projects to the end.
Inspiration came from Shags Tang in a canoe paintings.
He has done a few. 2 man, 3 man.
I thought, 10 man, no !5 man.
The log allowed 11.
The bobble head idea came along when I was figuring out
how to attach the heads.
Now I wish it would sail off.
I don't have the room &
I'm on to something else
Thanks for asking.

Aren't you glad I didn't do this on
an 8 ft. log.

 Proportions do look a bit off

Finished up in Feb with 400 hrs in it.

Funny, just the other day I was thinking it would be cool to have some sort of deal like a chess clock so you could tell how much time you had in a project. I decided I didn't want to know

N

lol
Thats funny Thank you !

B

Boy Willie, this sure looks like a Benzart, you sure he didn't carve that?? :)

S

That is fantastic Will.

I'm all about the hard questions: sooo - why didn't you carve through between the legs of the small guys?

So I've said I like to try new things on these fronds.
Well, they don't always work like I expect.
For example,
You can't imagine how surprised I was when
those last stacked guys only showed us their butts.
I think I've got them turned around.
It's all in the knees, ya know.

Looks great Will!

N

Looks great will !!! Like the time that you put into it. All i see are knees didnt see any buts

Another nice one Will, no "butts" about it. Those palm fronds look like fun
but I can't seem to find any up here in northern Wisconsin.

Another great frond! Yes - Will answered my question about carving through and it made sense (at least, after 3 beers it made sense). Conga - don't send him your address - you may get more than you want!

H

That's just beautiful.
